I sat on a mossy rock as I watched the blue jays fly in the sky. With the warm breeze blowing against my fur, I close my hazle eyes and listen to the breeze and birds. I stay in this pose until Patchedleaf calls my name.
“What are you doing, Badgerclaw? I thought you didn’t want to watch the clouds today.”
“No, I don't want to watch the clouds. I’m just listening to the sound of the birds.”
Patchedleaf hummed, “Alright.”
I then turn around and close my eyes. I listen to the sounds for a while before I open my eyes again and get up, I turn around and get off the rock.
“Would you like to go hunting with me, Patchedleaf?” I asked, pointing my tail at the open field.
“Hm, sure,” Patchleaf said, getting up and shaking their fur out.
I then turn around and slowly walk to the open field, not to frighten any of the rabbits that may be near, both of us walk to the nearest rock to hide from prey.
“Do you see or smell anything?”
“A few rabbits hanging around by the river…” Patchedleaf closed their eyes, “What if you ambushed them by water, and I’ll try and attack from land. Even if one of us fails, the other would be sure to have caught one. Plus, the water would have washed away your scent so the rabbits wouldn’t hop off and mess with our plans.”
“Good idea, I will go to one of the sides of the river and slowly move near the rabbits,” I whispered as I slowly crowded to the far right side.
After Patchleaf started stalking towards the animals, I slipped into a small stream that flowed into the river where the rabbits were. My paws moved like a fin of a sea lion, paddling as fast as the current. I slowly swam closer and closer to the rabbits that were eating the grass by the river. Soon, Patchedleaf got down into a hunting position on the grass, they then leaped forwards. The rabbits exploded into a commotion, I leaped out of the water too. In a flurry of rabbit fur and cat fur, the remaining rabbits scampered back into their burrows.
Patchedleaf got up and sighed, “What a drag, I didn’t get one… I might need to polish up my hunting skills.”
I chuckled as I set down two lifeless rabbits, “Well it was still a successful hunt. Do you want to head home?”
Patchedleaf nodded and grabbed one of the limp rabbits. We then paced towards the forest. Once we finally arrived back at our home, I leapt onto the mossy rock and started feasting on the rabbit. Patchedleaf just walked below the willow tree to nimble on their rabbit. We continued to eat in silence, it was a nice day.
