The young man looked up at the fluffy white ball. His unwavering gaze made Bao Bao gulp with anxiousness.
[Does… Host have any questions? ]
"My body?"
[Oh! Um… During Host's stay here, Host’s original world's time has been suspended. Once you have fulfilled your contract, you will be sent back to your world at the same time you left it. Host doesn't have to worry.]
The young man nodded and said nothing after his concerns were dealt with, quickly making the atmosphere awkward between the two.
Bao Bao, [...] TMD, how many more times are we going to have to experience this??!! QAQ
The young man, “...”
The still silence continued to linger in the air. Initially starting as a Q&A, it had somehow managed to turn into an eye staring contest.
Bao Bao: ( ̄Д ̄;) Anything... Else? Anything. At. All.? Is that … All the questions you have for Bao Bao? ...Bao Bao feels like this is going way too smoothly… (¬_¬;)
…
Oh well~ ╮(╯▽╰)╭
[Bao Bao will begin to initialize Host’s transfer to your first world then!]
Cranking up his cells, Bao Bao began the countdown even without his host’s confirmation.
[Initializing transfer... 45 seconds until transfer... 30 seconds... 20... 10... 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0!]
The young man's eyes closed as the countdown reached zero. What he did not see was Bao Bao’s body had turned translucent and was radiating with soft white light, and everywhere it touched, the ceiling, walls, floor, and bed, all disintegrated like scattering white petals.
Strangely, the young man felt as if he was being cradled by its gentleness and his body turned stiff. Though unfortunately, light was only the result of electromagnetic radiation. It was something intangible, incapable of physically stimulating the sensation of being ‘touched’.
After the light faded, he opened his eyes once more and found that he was in a whole different area. Perhaps it was more accurate to say he was in a whole other world.
There was no resemblance to the previous area of any kind. The mute bleached walls and floor were replaced with a shade of blue and brown he had never seen before. Seeing it for the first time amazed him; as such a colour was impossible to achieve from where he came from.
The blue colour did not give off a cold and unwelcoming feeling, but rather, comforting due to the shade and hue. It was like the tone of the sky on a cloudless day, blessed with the presence of the brilliant sun.
His vision moved from the interior walls to the objects placed around the room.
In front of him were lavish, modern-styled furniture. As he closely examined them, he noticed that they had small intricate marquetry, adding a sophisticated and refined feel to its rather bare features.
Many of them and their functions were unknown to him, but not all of them were unfamiliar. Some of the other forms were congruent with things from his world, thus surmising its purpose wasn’t hard. It was just that they weren’t crudely put together, and one could tell that the craftsmanship of the items was superb with its clean and polished look.
Furthermore, the style and colour of the furniture were not outspoken and vibrant, complimenting their surroundings completely as if made to be together. Nothing was out of place, and there wasn’t anything that seemed to have too much or too little of something, showing just how much care one had taken in the design and placement of the room.
To the left of him were two large rectangular windows, and in between, was a large double moon glass door. The natural lighting from the windows and door was enough to illuminate the entire room.
He espied that all of the furniture was tranquilizing and simple, giving off a soothing feel. Altogether, it beautifully created a harmonious semblance.
The only problem in this congruous atmosphere was himself.
Everything gave off the feeling of wholesomeness and completion, whereas his current body gave a somber and lethargic feel—completely destroying the ambiance.
But it wasn’t a pretentious act. His current vessel was truly too weak. Since entering it, it was as if at any moment, he would blackout and fall unconscious. Even blinking and keeping his eyes open was a strenuous activity to do and keep up.
His gaze moved over to the hovering white ball beside him, and as if Bao Bao understood his action, he gleefully answered.
Also, if Host wishes to speak to Bao Bao, simply speaking through one’s thoughts is enough.> Hehe… Otherwise, Host might seem like a lunatic.
…Talking to oneself and staring off into the open space, Host, Host might get sent to the asylum before the completion of this world… QAQ
Sluggishly blinking his eyes, he telepathically said his longest sentence yet.
His tone of voice was neither showing any arrogance as if he was demanding an answer nor did it sound subservient, as if pleading Bao Bao. It was just as hollow as it had always been, other than there being a hint of fatigue in his voice.
Happily receiving his command, Bao Bao was ecstatic. He was almost like a charged Pikachu, ready to discharge his electric attack.
He happily transferred the memories and information on the current world to the young man, remembering to relay it one at a time instead of instantaneously. If not, his host might meet an early grave without knowing anything about the current world.
Hehe, Host is going to be so proud of Bao Bao— Eh…? Bao Bao… Bao Bao never asked Host for his name! Gyah… (>ლ)
…It's not too late… is it…? Bao Bao was just so excited that Bao Bao forgot. Bao Bao is a good system… Bao Bao does his work properly…
Bao Bao, who was extremely worried at this point. What if his host saw him as not a good boy? Oh, mon Dieu! His whole career would be in shambles then! Sneakily taking a peek at his host, Bao Bao’s internal strife was quelled.
He decided not to bother his host until after he's finished reading through the information.
The young man felt his head pulsating as the streams of information flowed into his mind. The feeling was not particularly painful, but it was certainly not a comfortable feeling. His mind’s natural reaction was to reject the incursion, but his brain failed to protect itself and was easily invaded.
Continuous rivulets of information poured in with ease. As the data flashed by at a speed comparable to that of light, there was a large increase in the brain’s activity levels. If this were to happen to an average person, they would go crazy, or either their brain might shut down due to the profuse knowledge.
Surprisingly, even without the aid of his unique and passive ability as a host—allowing the soul to be able to decipher through the overwhelming heap of information—his inherent capability was more than enough to compute through the given data and not suffer an overload.
His scrunched-up brows soon relaxed as he went over the information.
He’s currently in the body of young Wei Xiao¹, the only son of Zhou Rongrong² and Wei Tian³. The original was the younger twin brother to the female protagonist of this world, Wei Yue⁴⁵. His role was very simple in this rather uncomplicated story.
The plot began with outlining the female protagonist’s family’s background and her younger years as a teenager.
Belonging to a family of the higher class, Wei Yue was born with a silver spoon. She was fed, she had a roof over her head, she never ran out of funds, she had tons of clothing; she didn’t lack anything. Well, anything other than parental affection, as all of her parent’s attention was placed upon her beloved younger brother.
With just a small family, life was supposed to be blissful—but it was anything but heaven for Wei Yue. Instead of having a warm home, it was cold and unfeeling, draining the life out of everything around it—including hers.
Wei Yue greatly struggled throughout her childhood and preteen years. She battled with the psychological issues stemming from her parent’s neglect, and somehow, despite the adversity before her, Wei Yue managed to remain good-hearted and kind.
At school, because of her appearance, she was labeled as the school flower⁵. But none dared to approach her because she was their little white moonlight⁶; something out of their reach. Thus, this unintentional ostracization made her feel cut off at school.
With no sense of belonging anywhere, Wei Yue found that she had fallen into an abysmal pit and was only sinking further into the quagmire with no one around her to help. All she could do was desperately struggle against what seemed like an inevitable fate.
That was her ongoing fate until one day, she accidentally met the young man who would pull her from this bottomless grave.
Never had she dreamed that she would even encounter, much less be able to speak to him as his status was something untouchable to the mass. The male lead, Long Zixi⁷, who was known to be precocious and cold—was her knight in shining armor.
He was the only heir to the earthshaking Long family, who was known to be one of the top kingpins in the business industry. As the heir, Long Zixi was cultivated to be the perfect leader. Since his childhood, he was trained to be the ‘pillar’ supporting the Long Empire.
He had to learn how to protect himself, read a person for who they were, be apathetic to the cries of the vipers, play by the government’s rules, manage and improve their defenses, etc.—as leader of the Long empire—there was no ‘I’, only ‘us’.
Most of what he saw and experienced was the dark and ugly side of the world. To him, everything was just like a coin, having a reverse side. This greatly affected his perception of the world.
Subsequently, being submerged in the darkness for so long, Long Zixi was only able to see black and white, where there was the absence of all other colours.
At school, he would receive his schoolmates’ adulations with pasted plastic smiles, making him feel sick. He could see their intent with his eyes; their unending servility that knew no bounds was disgusting. Wherever Long Zixi glanced, it was the only thing he could see, and he slowly became numb to it all.
It wasn’t until he met Wei Yue in his third year of high school, where he received a shock. As she was on her way to the library, in their accidental encounter, he finally saw the light in the caliginosity. Like an untainted white lotus amidst the rotting plants, her presence transcended from the rancid garbage and stood out boldly.
Long Zixi’s and Wei Yue’s first encounter sparked their undying love for each other. They were unable to help themselves but be drawn to one another. They were like two halves of a whole—she, who was searching for love and comfort; and he, who was a wandering traveler trying to restore his faith in the callous world.
Consequently, the more time Long Zixi spent with Wei Yue, the more colourful his world became. Her existence became the window connecting him to the outside world. With her there, Long Zixi gradually grew to see that there were many more shades alongside the monotonous black and white, slowly warming his frozen heart and melting the icy walls.
Later on, they both found out that their families had been long-time friends who hadn’t been able to meet due to various circumstances. This brought a pleasant surprise for both parties.
Taking this chance to meet up, the two families reconciled and once again grew close to one another. Ascribed to the serendipitous event, their bond deepened. With every passing day spent in each other’s presence—they were able to further develop their feelings.
Everything seemed to be going just right, and both were going to obtain what they yearned for… until the incident during Zhou Rongrong’s forty-seventh birthday celebration.
