Tessa’s POV
- Tessa, the Casket won’t work – my mom looked frantic, - What do you mean? – I tried to move closer to her, but there was something holding my ankles in place, quicksand.
- You need to use the Icy Tendrils of Ikthalon, that’s the only way – that was actually my first thought, - One problem with that mom, Strange hasn’t taught me that spell yet, and he’s still M.I.A – it was weird, the air was quiet around us, even though in the desert there was no water I could still hear the sound of the tides.
I took a deep breath and finally spoke after a long silence.
- Mom, killing Thunder won’t solve anything, it will actually make things worse. I need to find out who corrupted my cousin's head, and then if diplomacy and love fail me, I… I’ll see how I improvise a plan without having to hurt anyone – she was giving me a weird stare, along with her typical mother pose.
- I’m so proud of you stelpan mín, your father would’ve been proud – even when I was sinking in the sand, I felt at ease, in peace, and just when I thought I had nothing else to say,
- I doubt it – my head ended up under the thick sand.
I woke up feeling heavy, the clock to my right read half past six in the morning.
To my left I found Morgan's silhouette between the sheets, her snoring was even more adorable, and her hair was spread out on top of the pillow, like, it really looked even more tangled than before.
What made her come to me last night? She seemed normal to me, well, normal within the few hours since I met her.
Maybe she had a nightmare as a consequence of my spell, but if that was the case, then why she slept so calmly on my shoulder? Most importantly, why the hell my skin didn’t burned her? Not that I wanted to hurt Morgan in any way, but it was weird.
I got out of bed and changed my clothes with my power as I walked out of the room quietly.
- So, what do we know so far? – I rushed downstairs, “Good plan letting her in by the way, my idea of course”, I walked to the kitchen, unsure of how much use I could give to my limited cuisine experience, while listening my own thoughts in the air, like having a conversation with another me.
“Morgan. H. Stark, we have two things in common, complicated parental story, and existential conflicts. Not only she was cast aside by her own father, in terms of legacy, but also made sure everyone but her had a part to play.
Her mother was kind but didn’t understood her, at all. She spent most of her adolescence alone and neglected, in absolute silence.
She is a sweet meals kind of girl, allergic to lavender and waking up early.” That much I knew.
I wasn’t feeling too hungry, so I just made her pancakes. The problem? They were not round and perfect like the ones she made for me, but the taste was acceptable. My OCD was burning the back of my head, but I thought that using magic would take away the intention, so I just tried to focus my attention on gaining energy.
- I must be already insane…again - And so, I jumped off the balcony directly into the ocean, getting caught by it before slamming my head against the rocks.
Influencing water using magic was one of the most complicated things to learn. Metal and rock are easy, but having a mere apprentice like me controlling water, was nearly extraordinary.
Even more when is one of the triple threats, for it’s also mist and ice…and I have the most horrible aim and hand-eye coordination in the whole fucking universe.
Not to mention, I need glasses because, either it's the 5-year exposure to strong heat waves still messing with my brain, or I just have a shitty vision.
And no, my magic can’t make it better, useless facts about magic that instead of making you feel unstoppable, makes you feel insignificant and stupid....at least that’s how I feel most of the time.
Of course, it’s not so bad, actually watching the will of water bend at the slightest wave of my hand was a very relaxing view, especially when the waves sprayed little drops on my nose due to the movement.
It looked so elegant, and well, fluid, pun intended.
- ¡¡¡TESSA!!! – My concentration vanished, and the heavy sphere of water almost fell on me as I looked up to see Morgan leaned against the edge of the balcony. – ¡¡Come and have breakfast!! – she yelled and went back inside.
– Fuck she got pipes – I said to myself before being carried upward by a current that gently lowered me into the center of the living room.
- Good morning your highness, what’s so funny about 9 am? – I was smiling without noticing it, - Maybe your worn-out look, your royal laziness – I bowed to her, mockingly.
– Hahaha, bitch – she sipped out of her coffee mug, - Do you even have a plan? Because I really don’t want to be blamed for any weird stuff that happens because of us – good point, but lucky for us, I had a very good plan.
- It’s true that the original time machine was destroyed along with Lang’s van in 2023, but these five years I discovered a way to travel back with a new design that a terrorist friend of mine is building as we speak, the only thing missing is one vial of Pym particles – she smiled at me, - Just one? – with a single hit to the kitchen counter a hidden compartment opened revealing at least a dozen of vials.
- I needed a challenge, so I tried to duplicate the formula. After an exhaustive year, I succeeded and made enough to replicate the time heist multiple times – Not only did I feel her pride in every word, but I also wanted to tell her how impressed I was, but I figured my expression was too obvious.
- Lose the smug look, I ain't impressed by your smart nonsense. And if I'm honest, I don't understand why you wasted your time doing this, you could’ve kept yourself fairly busy deciphering the secrets of eternal life – I smiled at the end so she would know that I meant to be funny, but she got a bit annoyed.
- It-It was a joke – I tried to explain but she still didn’t laugh, shit. – Well, where’s your friend’s prototype? – AWKWARD!!! FUCK!!! I felt the need to say something stupid as an impulse caused by anxiety, but nothing came into my mind…first time I ran out of stupidities to say that might hurt me afterwards, physically I mean.
– Uhm, right here - I snapped my fingers, tacky move really, I didn't needed the snap, only to move my hand and the platform would just appear in front of me.
A silver disk with glowy red lights, - We just have to activate it with the particles, and my "weirdness", 'cause I don't like calling it magic, and we should travel to the exact moment my grandfather died, releasing my dear auntie, the goddess of death - I stepped on it's center while I was speaking, it slowly expanded to become a bigger circle.
- "Should"? So in the worst case we'll die - she looked at me angry, which was insanely hot and cute. - Relax M, as long as you stay with me, nothing will ever dare hurt to you...I promise – she seemed more relaxed after that, so I just kept preparing the device, while she suited up.
The device worked perfectly.
After Morgan and Tessa prepared themselves with weapons, tricks and snacks, they went through the bright light and appeared right in the moment Odin died.
- Holy shit! – Morgan gasped as was being pulled by the Jotun down and behind a boulder, - Thor was hot! – Tessa hit her shoulder and gave her a disgusted and disapproving gaze as she stared at the Asgardian with resent.
- And he must be Loki – Her heart was beating loudly, even Morgan could hear it, all her body was telling her to go and show her father how much she missed him, but the mission was far too important to loose to emotional stuff, or so she thought.
- You look a lot like him, I can’t see much from here, but your eyes…are just the same – Morgan intended that to sound like a compliment, instead the frigid hands of Tessa nearly cracked the boulder in half.
- Bring us back! – Loki shouted and the Bifrost rainbow beam fell to pull them up, quickly being followed by Hela, the goddess of death. - Let’s go! – Tessa pulled Morgan and ran all the way across the field to catch the beam before it dissipated. Luckily, and only after getting a bit of speed by pulling Morgan into her arms, they got pulled up by the Bifrost, a few meters behind Hela.
“Mother wasn’t lying when she said Loki was a coward” Tessa thought with the image of Loki wanting to run away still on her mind. Morgan looked up to see worry and fear in the hazel eyes of the Jotun, - What troubles you? – Tessa tried to fight the spell, but she gave up and said – I just wish I wasn’t his daughter – her stomach felt knotted, she kind of had the same thoughts when she was younger.
Both girls activated the cloaking mode in their suits to try to pass unnoticed behind the gods. However, in an unexpected twist, Hela knocked Loki down. Given the momentum and its trajectory, Tessa didn't have time to move, so the crash caused the three of them to be kicked out of the Bifrost. Thor followed a bit later.
- Fuck! – Tessa tried her best not to loose control over her physical appearance, only to avoid Morgan's judgement and being spotted by her father. – Tessa?! – Morgan yelled panicked, - I won’t let go of you – she held her closer and tightly, always controlling her strength to avoid broken bones.
After a lot of lights and paranoia, and falling off a portal, Morgan snapped out of it and activated her iron suit a second before both of them crashed against the ground, holding Tessa in her arms like a princess. – Are you ok? – Tessa wanted to kiss her, but the helmets on both of their heads was a clear impediment, and also she feared she would regret it afterwards, so she just nodded easing Morgan’s anxiety.
- We’re too visible here, let’s go to the city and try to blend in – Tessa said confidently after noticing possibly hostile people coming out of a ship. – Where are we? – Morgan asked while re-connecting the cloaking mode in her armor, - In a fucking death trap, Sakaar, a planet of crazy shit and dumb slavery – Tessa only knew much due to the story her uncle told that time he was really drunk, so her knowledge wasn’t very useful.
- You’ve been here before? – Tessa shook her head, she was rather busy making sure to push every single piece of trash that fell through the holes in the skies, so it didn’t hurt them. – No, so we have to be careful and find Brunnhilde – Morgan landed in the darkest part of an alley, after letting Tessa on her feet, the nanotech in her suit relocated the whole thing inside a bracelet on her right hand.
- Excuse me, who? – Outside the alley there was a place that looked like a market, and the people that was just passing by looked like a combination of a pop art gallery, a steampunk junk shop, and an episode of The Walking Dead where the zombies are only 60% conscious.
– Valkyrie, the former ex king of New Asgard, here she should go by Scrapper 142, although I’m not sure if we are in the right course of time – Tessa used her power to disguise Morgan into a weird alien with purple skin and antennae, - What do you mean? – a lot of ships passed through the sky, making a lot of noise, hence why the Jotun had to wait a second to explain.
- For what I’ve heard, this place has it’s own rules for time, we fell through a portal, it means we could be a year or only a few days behind or ahead of my uncle’s arrival, which can be a bit of a game changer, if we don’t catch up with the accurate story we could be trapped in this planet for the rest of our lives! –.
Morgan slapped her across the face, with the only purpose of making her snap out of her panic, it worked, so Tessa was calm and with her head clear.
- Ok, let’s find Val – Morgan looked down to her hand. A huge red and black rash spread on her palm like it was consuming her, it stopped at her wrist covering all including her fingertips. It didn’t exactly hurt due to the protection spell, but the feeling was tingling and bothered her a lot, but decided to keep it to herself, she thought that if Tessa knew she would panic believing that she hurt her.
And yes, Morgan knew.
