Death Outside Our Universe

Chapter 7

Chapter 7

May 15, 2021

"Miss?"
"Miss wavy black hair at the back?" He called again but this time Harlyn lifted her gaze back towards in front of her.

"ah."
All the students had their eyes on her including the teacher. She gulped. "Can you repeat what you said sir?"
She asked.

"I asked you if to go in front to introduce yourself." He explained.
Did he think she was a new student? Well... He is a new teacher this school year.
"But I-I'm not a new here sir." Harlyn stuttered. "I know... But I would like to know your name since I'm new here right?"
"Yes sir." She stood up from her chair and walked towards the board feeling anxious because she could sense the the eyes of her classmates on her.

"Hello, I am Harlyn Carson. I'm seven years old, and I live in Willoe street."
The pure silence killed her instantly through her thoughts.

"Alright. Thank you miss Carson, next the other girl beside her." He pointed out Zhara. She stood up from her seat as Harlyn sit back onto mine. As she walks towards the board. Harlyn could feel the awkwardness wandering around the room.

"Hello everyone." She cleared hear throat.
"I am Zhara C-"

The bell rang loudly.

"Ah. I guess we'll continue our introduction later, have a great lunch everyone!" their teacher greeted goodbye and left the classroom.

As the other students leave for lunch, Harlyn and Crystal quickly took their backpacks from the back of their chairs and took out their beige matching lunch boxes.

"What's your meal today?"
Crystal asked as she peeks through Harlyn's lunch box.

"Well..." Harlyn slowly unlock the clip that secures the box from opening.
"Tada!" She lifted the lid up high revealing her lunch.

"Oh gosh what is that called again?"

"It's called Adobo. It's a Filipino dish that my parents loved eating whenever we visit the Philippines!"

"Oh yeah that one... Lemme taste."
She pierced her fork through the meat and took a big bite.

"Well... It's tasty as always." Crystal complimented and ate another piece of meat.

Harlyn giggled as she watch her devour her meal. She then noticed how Zhara stayed on her seat staring blankly through the classroom.

"Hey. Aren't you to eat?" Harlyn asked and caught Crystal's attention. She seemed to ignore them and continued staring weirdly into the corner of their classroom.

"Rude..." Crystal mumbled. Harlyn faced her with a annoyed look. "Sorry not sorry." She lifted her eyebrow and continued eating.

While she continued eating her lunchbox was moved away from her desk. "Wha-" As she lifts her gaze on Harlyn, she gave out such dark glare into her eyes.

"seriously give me my lunch back, why do care about that girl anyways she gives me creeps." She said in a loud whisper.

Harlyn let out a sigh and placed back her lunch box on her table. "She just seems so lonely, don't you think she should At least have a friend since she's just new?"

"Nope I'm fine. I don't see any good reason to be friends with-"

"Hi." A unfamiliar voice echoed through both of their ears. They both faced the direction of the voice quickly.

"Uhm. Hello?" Harlyn greeted her back. "Hi, can I eat with you two?" She gave out a nice smile.

"I don-" Harlyn covered crystals mouth with her palm as she continues to talk in a muffled tone.
"Sure!" She answered without hesitation.

"Thanks." She sat on the chair in front of Crystal's table. "It's good to eat with good guys." She said in a calm tone.

Harlyn dropped her palm of Crystals mouth and looked at her confusedly as Crystal gave her a confused look too. "Haha... Yeah I guess." Harlyn laughed awkwardly while Crystal lifted a brow at her.

"Well take a look at that!" Crystal exclaimed out of nowhere. "Me and my dear bestie here are done eating! So you know the drill my friend!" She exclaimed again, waiting for Harlyn's response as Zhara stares blankly through the both of them.

Crystal closed her both of their unfinished lunches and pushed it in their bags.

Harlyn gulped, as she gets confused of what Crystal's intention are. "Hmm... Why don't you tell me?" Harlyn responded in cute tone with a mix of sarcasm.

"Rooftop!" Crystal wrapped her arm around her neck securely to escape Zhara's weird impression.

"Well we'll see you later on! Happy lunch!" She pulled her arm that was around Harlyn's neck to the classroom door, While Harlyn waved goodbye to Zhara.

"That was mean you know... We just left her there." Harlyn said in a worried tone knowing that Zhara must've felt uncomfortable being alone.

"That's fine. Plus she gives away a weird vibe... Like girl I don't even know where to start." She said confidently without hesitation.

"Yeah I know but-"

"You guys!" A familiar voice yelled out through the school hallway.
Before they could even look back, A hand crawled through Harlyn shoulder that gave her shivers.

"Oh hi again!" Harlyn greeted Zhara as she pants completely out of breath. Lowering her head to rest.
"You good?" Crystal asks while she looks down on her.

She nods as she lifts up a finger signaling them too wait.
Finally she stood back up and lifted her gaze to the both of them.

"I'm done eating too... Can I join you both on the rooftop?" She asked politely.

They both stood there like statues not knowing where the rooftop is, Is there even a  rooftop here? Crystal only used that as an excuse to get away from her.

"Ah. Well we're not going to the rooftop anymore..." Harlyn chuckled awkwardly.
"Oh is that so..." Zhara responded with a sad look.

"Yeah! Because we were about to go get ice cream! Right Crissie?" She exclaimed.

"Yeah of course! Ice cream..." She responded right away. "Oh! Well can i come with you guys?" She asked again, And of course they both expected her to say that again.

"Alright! Lets go then!" Harlyn said in a cheerful tone and held both Crystal and Zhara's arm on their way out of the school hallway. Crystal went silent as she suspects a weird vibe on Zhara. Knowing that she shouldn't let her guard down on her.
