Miranda Van Bloem - A sign of hope
Miranda Van Bloem - A sign of hope
May 19, 2021
I was walking with Miranda Van Bloem (flower in Dutch). She and her mother are immigrants from the Netherlands, and she only knows how to speak Dutch... and a little bit of English. I speak Dutch very well, though at times, I prove to be quite rusty with it.
(Miranda) Dus...wat doe je als je tijd te besteden hebt? (So...what do you do when you have time to spend?)
(Me) eh ... nou ... ik schrijf normaal gesproken gedichten, lees Oliver Twist of ga door met het schrijven van mijn verhaal. (um...well... I normally write poems, read Oliver Twist or continue writing my story)
(Miranda) Oh? Wat voor verhaal? Waar gaat het over? Wanneer ga je het afmaken? (Oh? What kind of story? What is it about? When are you gonna finish it?)
(It's the story of this girl who, one day, enters a magical land, full of mysterious and wonderful things, though she comes to realize that she cannot escape and go home. It's a fantasy and drama book, and for the time, i don't really know yet. We'll just see how it goes and go with the flow.)
(Miranda) Oh. Ik weet zeker dat ik het met plezier zal lezen. Neem de tijd en wees niet zo streng voor jezelf. Zeg me wanneer het klaar is! (Oh. Well i'm sure i'll be glad to read it. Take your time and don't be so hard on yourself. Tell me when it's done!)
(Me) Ik zal! Doei! (I will! Bye)
We both waved at each other. Then i rushed on my way, home. When i arrived, i went straight to my room, got confortable on my window seat, and started writing. Every once in a while, my cats, (hoop and licht), would come rubbing their backs against my legs, that is, if they could even reach me, over the window seat.
Talking about my cats, i think it'll be good for you to know a little more about them...
It all started with Miranda. I may have already told you about her, being an immigrant, all the way from Netherlands, but i certaily didn't include that her mother used to do benevola at a animal rescue center, near her house. Once the owner died, her mother lost her job and decided to free the animals and give them to people, instead of giving them to the animal control. That's when i got one.
And that's also why i named both of my cats, hoop and licht, because that means both, hope and light, in dutch, in honor of Miranda, such a great loyal friend. I will never forget the many things she's done for me, and i will always be thankful for these things.
Miranda, if you see this, I just want to say that you're the best friend a person could ask for, and i will never forget you.
Vivian Renata Lennon Lyris Anderson-Moore is a 12 year old diarist, who decides to talk about her PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), her intimate problems, her social anxiety, her student life, her Vitiligo, her constant migraines, and so on...
