"I'll just head out for a bit. Maybe going to the market will clear my head", I said, smiling weakly.
"You sure?" My mother was carefully choosing her words, least I start crying again. It is to be expected. She'd never seen her wild, confident and impulsive daughter cry her heart out in years. If only she'd know how my previous lives were.
"Yeah. I'll be back before dinner" and with this, I headed out.
The town market was just 10 minutes walk from my home, and was bustling with people during evening time. Children running and playing here and there, vendors calling out to customers. The place was filled with energy. Occasionally, one could even catch a glimpse of small nobles carriages, taking the side roads to avoid running someone over.
Just walking aimlessly gave me a sense of peace. Now what's remaining is the toughest part, convincing myself to forget my past and accept I'm alive again.
Sitting on a side bench near a cafe, I stared in the space. People are so carefree. Everyone laughing, smiling and continuing with their daily life. That teenage girl buying a hair ornament, an elderly lady selling vegetables direct from farms, a little kid eating cotton candy and that lady with purple hair going near the bar.....wait purple hair. My eyes instantly focused, all my attention directed to that women. Yes, her hair was purple and she wore a long white dress. I'd never forget this look. Purple hair so in contrast with the white clothes, like wisteria growing in endless Daisy fields.
I instantly sprang to my feet and started chasing her, all the while breathing heavily. I was scared. My feet were trembling so much, I was afraid they'll give out. Instead of entering the bar, she entered the alley next to it.
I knew I won't make it in time. The streets were too crowded. And by the time I made my way through the crowd, the alley was deserted.
