EPISODE TEN:
TW: death
I turned my head around sharply and a small hiss escaped from between my lips. Fury shot through my body and I felt my heart thump loudly due to the rage. For a second I was startled by the sudden rush of negative emotions. ‘I’m not normally this irritable, it’s probably just from all this stress from the… the attack. I need to calm down.’ I took in a deep breath. However, my moment of serenity was quickly swept away and replaced with the red hot irritation from before. Standing on the bench, connected to the table, was none other than self absorbed, daddy’s boy, Caspian.
“I,” He began, dragging out his pause to catch the audience’s attention, “belive in what Ms. Knightsmen has said.” He stepped up in front of Zora. “We need to come together and fight these… these… whatever they are! So who’s with me?!” He shouted throwing a fist into the air. His raven black hair waved in the cliche breeze and his blue eyes sparked with rebellion.
The crowd was riled up and were shouting encouraging words. They began to surge and looked ready to raid a palace. I narrowed my eyes at Caspian as he ripped the stage away from Zora and used it to his advantage. Caspian leaped down from the table with his fist still high and with a battle cry led the mob of students towards the gates.
The school is surrounded by a six foot brick wall and has four gates in each direction but only one with a road. The other gates lead to small sections of the camps like gardens and a basketball court. The mob was swarming the main gate led by Caspian.
I looked over at Zora and her eyes were filled with panic once more. My heart ached at her pain and I made my way towards her as quickly as possible. Once I got to her she began to move.
“Zora,” I called. “Zora, wait!”
Grabbing hold of her arm I swung her around to face her her eyes were frantic.
“What’s wrong, Z?” I asked, looking deep into her eyes trying to soothe her worries.
“We have to stop them! WE have to stop them, they don’t know what they’re doing!” She pried herself from my grasp and began to race after the crowd.
“Mallory! Andrew!” I yelled waving my arms, “William! Over here!”
Three heads flicked up from the crowd and turned in my direction. I watched as Andrew began to shove through the mass of people; and William grabbed Lorie by the hand and led her towards me. I kept moving trying to keep track of Zora in the sea of students. Finally the three of them had caught up with me and were in close strides with me as I walked fervently towards Z.
Andrew was walking beside me, his breathing was heavy due to the pace we were at. He grabbed my shoulder but I did not stop. I only glanced over at him, giving him a look that asked him to speak. He let go of my shoulder and began to speak.
“What are we going to do?” He asked.
“Whatever Zora needs us to do. She’s panicking about something. I couldn't get her to tell what though,” I answered keeping my eyes fixed on Zora.
The mob had made its way across the parking lot and was honing in on the rod iron gate. By the time our group of four had caught up to Zora, the mass crowd of students had made their way to the gate.
“Zora!” I yelled over the noise coming from the swarming mass.
We had caught up to her and when I looked at her, she was still in disarray. The panic which I thought she had banished was back and more prevalent than ever. It scared me to see her this unsure and panicky. I realized in an instant that she didn’t need a bunch of pestering questions or even answers, she needed help. I hardened my face and caught her attention.
“What can I do?” I asked with determination.
She locked eyes with me. The signs of panic were diminishing as a plan began to formulate in her head.
“Get me to the head of this crowd,” she commanded.
“You heard her, let’s move!” Andrew announced to our group.
The four of us parted the swarm, giving me deja vu from when we were escaping from the gymnasium. I shuddered at the memory and pushed it back down. We were only feet away from the gate when a cry rang out over the noise of the crowd.
“Move! Get out of my way!”
We made it to the head of the group just in time to see Jenny Chainlynn, a girl from our senior class, run out from the group towards the gate.
Jenny Chainlynn came to Seriph High when I was in my sophomore year. All the guys were obsessed with her and her long flowing beach blonde hair, perfectly tanned skin, and sapphire blue eyes. Through the volleyball and track team(though I don’t run, I’m there for Lorie) I got to know her. She is a genuinely kind person who doesn't really like all the attention given to her by the boys in the school. Although she could be petty sometimes, I always liked her and even sat with her at lunch a few times. We had a falling out sometime in the middle of junior year and we’ve never mended it. Now I regret the time wasted between us because now Jenny is laying only a few feet from me but more distant than ever. Jenny is dead.

All the memories shared between us flashed in my eyes as Jenny reached out one of her hands towards the fence. A feeling of horror flooded my system as a loud crack split through the air like lightning. I watched in slow motion as Jenny’s body slammed into an invisible wall. She screamed a horrible painful scream and then dropped to the ground. Her lifeless body smoked and her hair looked fried.

The crowd was cast into an abrupt silence by the single, last, scream of Jenny Chainlynn. The quiet was short and chaotic voices quickly over came the temporary peace. Everyone began to back away from the wall as quickly as possible. People tripped and fell, but the crowd continued to scurry away from the dangerous gate. I myself took a step back but I refused to leave Zora alone. I shot a accusing glare at Caspian who still stood at the front of the group. He was frozen to the spot and had a look of shock on his face.
People began to break into screams and shouts. Everything began to escalate sharply and, similar to a herd of horses, the students began to stampede. However, before anyone could get anywhere a bone-shaking scream echoed off the brick walls surrounding the huddle of kids.
