He was about to tell Miko to wake everyone up when a shot flew by next to him. It had been fired by a small caliber weapon, so the vehicle sensors couldn't detect it. It seems like these people had some idea what they were doing.
He cautiously looked over the armored railing only to find that more small vehicles had appeared. He tapped twice on the side of his helmet, activating the alarm. Sirenes started blinking, and one could hear the faint howling from inside the vehicle, on the upper deck.
The recruits, however, did not wake up, Kane suspected that they had probably drunk alcohol while he was talking to Miko, he mentally noted to himself to pay better attention next time.
Miko was about to come over to him, but Kane gestured for him to stay there.
Then he already heard the sergeant's voice in his ear, "What's going on?".
"Sir", Kane said, "Several unknown gliders are to the right and left of the vehicle they must have been there for some time, what worries me more is that they are armed and have fired at me".
"Damn" cursed the sergeant on the other end of the line, "are they injured?".
"No sir, Kane replied," he looked to Miko and motioned for his comrades to move to cover.
"How come we didn't see them earlier?".
"Sir, from my position they were not visible and the recruits....", Kane paused.
"What about the recruits soldier?" asked the sergeant with a slight sigh.
"Well, while I was having a conversation with Recruit Miko about being harassed by other recruits,
I guess in the mean time they indulged themself in alcohol and later fell asleep."
The sergeant could be heard cursing and calling for the recruits' superior officer, then he picked up the headset again: "Well, presumably the pirates or whatever they are have already determined that we are getting ready, gather up the recruits who can still fight and then we'll give those out there a run for their money."
"Yes sir," Kane replied. The first soldiers came up from inside the vehicle, on the other vehicles it got busy aswell. The men pushed the armor plates into place and positioned themselves behind them, Kane sent the remaining recruits with one soldier each in teams of 3 to the stationing weapons of the roof.
"Sir", Kane said, "Several unknown gliders are to the right and left of the vehicle they must have been there for some time, what worries me more is that they are armed and have fired at me".
