12 years later....

"Sean?.. Sean sweetie, it's time to get up. You don't want to be late for the first day back." Brenda called through my bedroom door. Rolling off of the bed I called back to her that I was up. Brenda is my dad's new mate, he met her a couple years after my mom left us. When I first met her I was very scared that she would feel the same way that my mom did about me. I kept my distance, but she took her time with me every time she would come to visit. She was patient. She never raised her voice at me even when I made a mistake. I also liked the fact that my dad seemed happier. 

He smiled and laughed more than he did in those three years since mom left. After my dad and Brenda had been dating for a year with them traveling between both of our packs, they decided to move in together. It was decided that we would move to Brenda's pack which was considered to be the most prominent pack in the world. Plus my dad being a doctor came in handy for them because their pack doctor was ready to retire. 

I'm not going to lie and say I was scared of meeting new people and how they would see me. But I didn't voice any of these concerns to either my dad or Brenda. I didn't want them to worry about me. Even Though I was scared I was really excited for this new start. My old pack all knew that my mom had rejected me because of my second gender and I became somewhat of an outcast. I hope that doesn't happen here, everyone already seems so nice that I felt welcome as soon as we moved in. When school started I stayed to myself because I was the lone new kid. Everyone already had their groups and I was just the outsider. 

But before the first day of school ended a girl came over to me and introduced herself. "Hi, my name is Jasmine Wesley. I'm nine years old. What about you?" I looked up at the girl with long blond hair and the iciest blue eyes I have ever seen. She was smiling down at me waiting for my answer. "Hey, I'm Sean Jewell. I'm also nine years old." I smiled back at her. She asked if we could play together and I guess you can say the rest was history. We became inseparable. Even now in highschool everyone knew that where one of us were the other wasn't far behind. 

I shake myself out of the memory and start getting ready for school. Today is the first day of my last year of highschool. My phone indicates that I have a new message. When I check it, it's from Jasmine.

JAS~~ Hey babe are you up yet?

             My mom is dropping me off today

               so I'll see you at school.

ME~~ Yeah I'm getting ready now. 

             Ok see you there. 

I put my phone in my back pocket of my jeans just as there was another knock at the door. "Come in." I called. "Hey bud want me to give you a ride to school today or is Jasmine coming for you?" To say I was a little shocked would be an understatement. Usually my dad is already on his way to work or most times just getting home from work. I shake off my shock as I see the smile on my dad's face drop a little. "Um, yes please. I would love a ride. 

Jasmine's mom is giving her a ride today." He smiled and was about to turn around to leave when I stopped him. "Dad?" He turned back to face me waiting for me to continue. "Ah, I know that we have been here for about eight years now. I know this is kind of late with me almost turning eighteen and all, but do you think Brenda would want to become my mom legally?" When he didn't answer I rushed to say, "I've been thinking about this for a long time, but everytime I think to bring it up I get nervous and put it off. I already see her as my mom but I didn't want to make her feel obligated to do it if she didn't want to." My day pulled me into a very tight hug. "She would love that. If you want I can be there when you ask her. To be honest with you I had the papers drawn up when you were ten. I knew you loved her just as much as she loves you. I was just waiting for you." I smiled and nodded my head. He released me and turned to leave again saying over his shoulder, "I'll wait for you okay. Meet me downstairs." He left then. I felt butterflies in the pit of my stomach. 

Before heading downstairs I made sure to take my heat suppressants and put an extra pack in my bag just in case of an emergency. After double checking that I had everything I made my way downstairs following the scent of freshly made cinnamon buns. Yum, my favorite! 

"Hey mom." I say walking into the kitchen. "Goodmorning love. Here you go." She handed me a ziploc with four cinnamon buns and a bag that I'm sure has my lunch in it. "Your dad  is waiting for you in the car, don't keep him waiting. He was really excited about getting to spend a little time with you." I hugged her before I turned to leave when she stopped me and gave me another ziploc with another four cinnamon buns. "Take these for Jasmine, I know you won't share yours." I take it and head out for the door.

The ride to school was spent with me and dad singing along to songs on the radio. When dad pulled up outside of the school I turned and hugged him before jumping out and thanking him for the ride.

Within seconds I'm attacked by my bestfriend while she is yelling in my ear. "HEYYYY BESTIE!!" I shake her off and turn to give her a hug. "Hi Jas." Letting her go she links her arm through mine as we make our way into the building. There were a few people walking in the halls as we headed towards our lockers. We still have about five minutes before the first bell. I made sure to grab everything I needed for now until we get our new schedules. I wait for Jasmine to finish touching up her makeup before we make our way to our designated classrooms. Jasmine starts poking me in my sides and as I try to get away from her I bump into something. At first I thought I hit the wall. That would've been very embarrassing, especially on the first day back. 

That was until I felt an arm go around me to keep me from falling backwards. "I'm so sorry I didn't mean to crash into you like that, I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings." When I don't get a response and the person is still holding me, I look up to see who it could be. When I finally see who it is my breath gets caught in my throat. I quickly step away and keep my head down and mumble another sorry before grabbing Jasmine's hand and speed walk the rest of the way to class. Once we're in the safety of the classroom and away from the stares of our classmates I finally take a much needed deep breath. 

Jax Alexander the most handsome guy I have ever seen and I just made a complete fool of myself. Well it's better than walking into a wall or falling flat on my face I guess, right?...
