I closed the drawer and made my way to the door expecting to open it and see Jane. I swiftly open the door only to see James in the doorway. I’m a little startled and almost fall back, but I catch myself. He makes a confused expression, but then just smiles. 

“If you’re all settled in we’re all down at the campfire, even Jane. We’re making s’mores if you’re interested or if you want to be alone...or if you want to talk.” I looked him in the eye and tried to analyze him in any way that I could, but I got nothing. I turn around, walk to the bed, and sit down. 

[You gonna come in or just stand there all night?] he chuckles and comes in, shutting the door behind him. For a moment we sat in silence in the dim light of the few glass-covered candles in the room. He sighs and scoots closer to me. My body stiffened as his arm brushed against me.

“Hey, lighten up kid. You don’t have to be so stiff with me. We’re just hanging out, right?” I nodded my head and let out the air I hadn't realized I was holding in. 

[So you said that we could talk, but about what specifically? We’re just sitting in silence.] he leans forward ‘til his face is centimeters from my own. 

“We could talk about anything or everything, I just want to know more about you. You interest me in a way that not a lot of people can. I can’t help but want to be closer to you.” he sounds crazy. I push him away and scoot back further onto the bed.

[I'm sorry, but I think I'll pass on the talk after all. You should go back down.] I curled up on the bed. He sighs and stands.

“Rain check, for now all right? Let’s talk another time. You must be tired.” he then turned around and left. As soon as the door closed behind him, I was swept over with relief.  I don’t understand. Why would he pretend that he couldn’t understand me when everyone else was around? He understood everything I signed. I guess I have a new problem now.
