Please don't chase me!

Sir?

Sir?

May 24, 2021

The whole room froze under the icy face of Luka. The student quickly escaped the ordeal and ran out. Luka twirled the paper in his hand before ripping it into pieces and threw it out. This was the research project she wanted to do, so why was the person in question ditching him?

He even wanted to invite her to dinner afterwards. He realised the words he said this morning were too harsh and wanted to make up but was she so affected by it?

Luka stared at his watch before deciding to call her. He could still remember how she called him and then took his phone to save her number.

'Your sunshine' Luka sighed at the name she gave herself but didn't change it. If he was honest, she was really a ball of sunshine. Not that he'd admit it.

The phone started to ring but with each second passing, the scowl on Luka's face grew deeper. Not once, not twice but at least 10 times she ignored his call and even pressed it away. He sent her a message but after a while, he still didn't get a reply.

Luka knew he messed up. He tidied and packed his stuff before leaving the library. For today he would have to leave her alone. He needed to wait until Monday to talk things out with her. Just imaging her sulking face brought a smile on his that couldn't even be wiped off as he got home and the bleak atmosphere greeted him.

Once again, his existence was ignored by his parents but he didn't mind. He already bought some takeout and ate it while watching TV but no matter how much he tried, he couldn't get Yana's face out of his mind.

From sulking to being hurt and sad then to crying because he was mean to her, Luka panicked. No. He couldn't wait until Monday. He needed to clear it with Yana as soon as possible. Just the thought of losing her, her not being in his life anymore was a huge shock to him.

And a huge revelation. Just how important was Yana? Either way, he still wanted to give her some alone time today but tomorrow, he wouldn't leave her alone until they made up.

Finally able to calm himself down, Luka managed to get through the night but Yana's aggrieved face still haunted him till the next morning.

As the bright morning light shone through the curtains, Yana instinctively woke up for work. After the usual morning routine, she headed to the restaurant.

"Not slept well?" Linda eyed the dark eyebags of Yana and rubbed them a bit, "Not even make up?"

Yana changed into her uniform and shook her head, "Didn't feel like it."

"Young Lady come here," Linda dragged the listless Yana with her on the bench and started to apply makeup for her.

"Tell me what's wrong?" Yana appreciated Linda's help but she didn't want to deal with her incessant blabber once she found out the root of her problem was a guy, not just any guy but Luka who Linda already met before.

Yana could never escape the teasing Linda and her manager would put her through. She's already experienced it a couple of times because Luka wouldn't leave her alone at work.

"It's nothing, just a uni project giving me a headache," it wasn't a lie, just not the complete truth.

"Oh, I see, when I was your age-" and so Linda started to ramble on.

The night before, Luka's words continued to ring in her head. Maybe she was a fool to let his words influence her so easily but hurtful comments would always stay on someone's mind, especially when they came from a close friend.

Yana sighed as she headed onto the floor and took care of the area. Linda's makeup skills were no joke. Yana's tired face looked refreshed and youthful again.

The shift went on until lunch break, where Yana laid in the break room not wanting to move. Linda massaged Yana's back as she saw how she resembled a dead fish.

"Tired?"

"Yes," Yana nodded and buried her face into the cushion of the bench.

"Sweetie, your makeup."

"Ughhh," Yana didn't say anything else as the manager came in and raised his eyebrow.

"Looks like I don't need to buy food anymore, the chefs can just cook this potato over there."

Yana rolled around and stared at the manager, "You're more delicious than me, offer yourself to the soup gods."

"I see how it is, you don't want your food hm," the manager taunted Yana but her next words caused everyone to be in shock.

"I don't want it anyways."

The whole room froze and all eyes darted to Yana faster than a dead fish slapped onto the table.

"Come again?" the manager couldn't believe what he heard. The deity of all gluttons refused to eat? What did the world become? Would the grim reaper appear and threaten the manager to stop smoking?

After the manager recovered from the shock, he cleared his throat, "A-Alright, Linda you take over to bring the guests to their seats, I'll be out because someone messed up the order and I need to be at the factory personally, what a pain in the ass."

"Got it," Linda briefly agreed before turning to Yana, "You sure you don't want to talk about it?"

"Please end my suffering!"

"Fine, the manager's not here anyway, I'll give you fewer customers."

Yana instantly sat up and gave Linda a hug, "My lifesaver, I love you."

"Well, it only means I'll get more tips," Linda smiled mischievously, "You really don't eat?"

"Ok, ok, if you beg me," Yana headed to the table and shoved the food into her stomach.

"No one begged you," Linda sighed and quickly rushed to eat before Yana was going to devour all of it.

After the lunch break, Linda really kept her word of giving fewer customers to Yana. Thankful, Yana took it a bit easy since the manager wasn't here to supervise her and luckily there weren't many customers at that moment.

Yana stood at the counter watching over her empty area when Linda came, "I seated a guest."

"Ok," Yana thought it was only normal for her to at least have one guest but Linda's wink gave her a bad feeling.

And just like she thought, just the sight of the raven black hair made Yana want to shake Linda like a cocktail.

Yana was about to rage at Linda to tell her she wasn't going to serve him when evil Luka turned around and their eyes met.

For a whole minute, they just stared at each other with neither moving, until Luka finally broke the awkward yet somehow tense silence.

"Are you going to serve me?"

Yana pressed her lips together before she took a menu and approached his table.

Once again, Luka sat at the window. The setting sun threw its golden rays around Luka and illuminated him as if honey dripped from his body trapping everyone under his charm who dared to get closer to him.

But Yana successfully stomped over the trap and the honey dissolved under her force, "Sir, your menu."

Yana handed him the card and wanted to leave but Luka didn't take it.

"Don't treat me like a stranger."

Luka was displeased by Yana so blatantly disregarding him but his eyes sparkled when he saw her in person. It really couldn't compare to some dream version of her. It was 1000 times better but also more painful.

"Sir, if you have finished choosing, please call one of the other waiters," Yana stressed the 'other waiters' part and put the tablet on the table before walking away.

And when the world ends, remember, that we've been togehter.
-----
After Yana suddenly disappeared, leaving behind the cold, unapproachable Luka she finally managed to thaw, she reaped the consequences 5 years later.

As a now CEO, Luka swore to do the very same thing Yana did to him prior:
Make her life hell (spoil her)
Annoy her (dote on her)
And most of all-
Chase after her

While all Yana wants to do is to get away from him!

"I'll buy the whole orphanage, give all the kids the best life so don't worry about them, come into my arms. You're mine and I'm yours."
"No."

"All the flowers, give them to me. I'll take care of them, so you don't have to. Now, come into my arms."
"...No."

"I'll become the king of the entertainment industry so-"
"Stop! Please just stop chasing me!"

But then-

The world ended and they both...

They both stood on different sides. As enemies.

A desperate war for survival started but it wasn't until then when he asked her, "Who are you really?"

In a battle of supremacy, in a fight for sanity what will precede?

"I'll protect you even if storms trap me, even if I have to walk through the bloodiest battlefields, I'll protect you, so wait for me."

But the truth is, a dark secret lies behind Yana-

"I don't need you to protect me. Protect your own life because you'll die."

'They don't show mercy, this crooked world doesn't, so follow me to the end until we see them all burn'
