At first glance, everything looked normal and innocent, but that's the thing about first glances; things very rarely look the same the second time you look at it.
At first glance, it was a normal enough looking summer camp. There was a volleyball court, a huge lake, trees wrapping around the camp, a lot of cabins, kids everywhere.
But after you look back and notice the small details, it doesn't look like a normal camp anymore. A tall fence surrounds us just past the tree line, armed guards looked around suspiciously at any kid that stayed in one place a little too long.
This place was going to be a hellhole, wasn't it?
I scowl at the guards staring at me before Patrick places a gentle hand on my shoulder.
"Come inside, you need to come and meet my wife." He said as he pulled me back slightly until I was following him into a building at the end of the driveway.
It looked just like any other building would if you left it there too long. Light blue paint was slowly peeling off the walls while the shingles on the roof were one big storm away from blowing off into the lake.
The inside didn't look that much better in my opinion.
The walls were painted an ugly bright yellow, the desk in front of the door was made out of old wood that was barely being held together, and there were water-damaged spots all over the celling.
Still, I had to admit, the place looked better than my dad's apartment.
Really old computer sat in front of the woman at the desk, who was clicking away on it before her eyes drifted to us.
"Patrick!" The woman yelled as she launched herself out of the chair that was being held together with duct tape.
She was decently pretty. She dressed like a respectable woman should and didn't wear too much make up like the girls my dad use to bring home when he was drunk.
I watched stone-faced as the woman hugged Patrick tightly before moving away and focusing on me.
"And this is Jax?" She asked with a warm smile.
"Yea, Jax this is my wife Mary, Mary that's Jaxon Young."
My heart raced in my chest yet I kept a face that made it hard to tell what I was feeling as her eyes did a once over my body.
"It's nice to meet you!" She said as she stepped closer, her arms wide open like she expected me to hug her. I simply take a step back as I look at her like she was insane.
Her smile fell from her face as she frowned at me before pulling a tight-lipped smile that I could tell was forced.
"I have one of your room mates on their way to show you around but like always, he's late. I was wondering if maybe you would be okay with getting a quick check up before you joined the other kids?" Her face looked doubtful, as it should. There was no way I was letting someone I didn't know stare at my body and judge it before telling me I was fine.
Just as I was about to open my mouth to say no, Patrick spoke up.
"Of course he wouldn't mind," he said with a kind smile making me glare at him.
"No, I actually would mind. I'm fine." I state rudely with a cold voice that made Patrick do a double take, not use to my cold voice after me being so warm to him before.
"It's for your own safety."
"Well if it's my safety then I'm the one who gets to make the call and my call is no." Mary was about to protest again when the door opened again.
"I'm sorry Mary!" A masculine voice said, "Liam forgot to make me up this morning so I over slept."
I let my gaze slide back to the boy, almost letting my eyes widen at the sight in front of me.
Dark black hair was plastered to his forehead, the edges almost covering his bright green eyes. His short-sleeved shirt didn't cover his tan, muscular arms as they bulged out of the sleeves.
"Late as always, Callum," Mary said in a joking tone, snapping me out the staring contest I was having with the boy's chest.
"Is this him?" Callum asked as he shifted his eyes to me. For a fraction of a second I think I see him eye fucking me too but it was over too quickly, it could have just been my imagination.
"Yes, this is Jaxon. Jaxon this is Callum he's one of your room mates."
"Jax," I corrected her as extend my hand to shake his. Callum took it with a small smile.
"It's nice to meet you." I only hum in response as I remember where I am and who he is to me and that he's probably straight or doesn't want me.
"Well, go show Jax to his new cabin, get him settled, then tomorrow show him around for classes." Mary said casually, but my eyes widen at one word.
"Classes?" I ask as I glare at Patrick. If he had told me school was involved with this I would have declined his deal and happily went to jail.
"Callum will explain everything tomorrow." She said sweetly before motioning us to the door before opening it and it shoving us out.
"Well that was rude." I comment as wait for Callum to tell me where to go.
"She's just excited to see Patrick. He's on night shift a lot so their schedules aren't really in tune." He says as he begins walking. I follow him wordlessly as I look at my feet hoping he would get that I didn't feel like talking.
Luckily he did, and our walk to my new cabin was peaceful.
Sadly that sense of peace didn't last long.
Callum soon stopped in front of a random cabin that I assume was for us. The outside looked a bit nicer than the office up front did so maybe that was a good sign.
"Welcome to your new home for a while." Callum said as he jingled the handle of the door and shoved it open.
It all looked normal enough at first. Beds were pushed against the side of the wall, a bathroom connected to the back corner, a small TV sitting on a wobbly table. Oh, and two guys sitting on the floor in a full out make out session.
One sat on the other's stomach, his hand's holding the smaller boy's arms above his head as he trailed kisses up and down the boy's neck before coming back up to his mouth. The smaller boy groaned as the boy on top shoved his tongue in his mouth.
Callum groaned beside me. For a second I think it's out of annoyance but then I look over and realize he was deeply into watching the two make out until he remembered I was there.
"Liam stop sucking Ryder's face off, we have company." Callum said as he walked behind the boy on top and pulling him off the other boy.
"He can join too," Liam said huskily as he sat up on Callum's lap and kissed the shell of his ear.
Callum pushed the boy's dirty blonde hair out of his face so he could look him in his dark blue eyes.
"No, meet our new room mate first." Callum said in an annoyed tone as he pushed Liam back and turned him around.
The boy Liam was on top of earlier was still lying on the floor. His usual looking pale skin was a deep red in embarrassment. His arms crossed over his face, trying to hide his blush.
"Keep your eyes off my boyfriend." Liam said rudely as he stood up from Callum's lap.
So three seconds ago he was asking me to join them and now he's going to be protective. Yea, that makes sense.
I simply roll my eyes at his logic before walking to the only bed that didn't have sheets on it, assuming it was mine. It was close to the corner that had the bathroom, making me frown. I just hope none of them use the bathroom a lot at night or I was going to have to kill someone.
Not caring about the lack of coverage, I lay down as slow as possible while trying not to wince. My body felt like on big bruise.
My hand came up to lie across over my head, the crook of my elbow slung over my eyes. My other hand sat on my stomach as I tuned out the conversation Callum was having with someone.
I was about to drift off into sleep when a light touch on my shoulder began to bother me. I ignored the touch the first few times it happened thinking it would stop soon but after a few more times it was aggravating me so I looked up.
The smaller boy Liam was sitting on earlier now stood above me. A light blush still lay on his pale cheeks as he looked down at me with a nervous smile. His brown hair was pushed back letting me see his brown eyes that seemed to hold a bit of left over lust from his boyfriend's attack on his lips, which were very swollen.
"Hi," he said in a small voice.
"Hello."
"I'm Ryder."
"I'm Jax."
"I know."
Ryder just stood there after that, like he didn't really know what he was supposed to do but I guess that made two of us.
I can't help but let my eyes drift over to Liam, who was glaring at me for some reason. Ryder followed my gaze before rolling his eyes and sitting down on the edge of the bed, making me raise an eyebrow.
"Are you sure it's a good idea to sit here when your boyfriend is looking at me like that?" I ask in a somewhat cold tone, but nowhere near as cold as I could have been. This kid reminded me too much of Boyd for me to get too mean with him. "He looks like he's a few seconds away from starting a fight he's going to lose."
"He's just mad because Callum made us stop because of you." He explained as he made a motion for me to scoot over but I don't move, making him frown slightly.
"I still don't think it's a good idea to poke a sleeping bear." I'd poked my father when he was in a bad mood enough times to know that it was never a good idea to poke a sleeping bear.
"What are you here for?" Ryder asked in an innocent voice after a few minutes of silence. He had been perched on the edge of the bed for so long that I was tempted to just go back to sleep.
"Yea," Liam's asked, his voice not as innocent as Ryder's. "What's Jaxon Young here for?" He asked cockily. I only roll my eyes as I put my arm back over my face.
"Male prostitute?" Liam asked himself. "No, you aren't pretty enough for that." I can't help but mentally grimace at that one yet on the outside I remained unfazed.
I thought I felt Ryder shift and glare at him as he scoffed but I'm not sure.
"Liam, stop." Callum said from somewhere in the room.
"Drug dealer maybe? You seem low profile enough for it." He thought to himself.
I didn't let it show through my cold walls but anger was slowly welling up in my chest. If he kept going he find out exactly why I was here the hard way.
"Liam fuck off. He hasn't done anything to you." Callum tried to reason. I heard something that sounded like someone getting off a bed.
"I just want to know more about the guy living with us." He said with fake innocent. "I bet he was a gang member. He practically screams it, don't you think Ryder?"
"I think you're being a douchebag," Ryder answered as he got off my bed. "Did you want to talk about why you were when they dropped you off?" He asked even though I got the feeling he already knew the answer to that.
Liam mumbled something that I didn't care to try and decipher so I didn't.
"I still think we should know why he's here." He grumbled before what sounded like him flopping on his bed. I roll my eyes even though I know he can't see me doing it.
"Street fighting." I grumbled out in a low voice.
"What?"
"I was a street fighter." I say a bit louder this time. "My piece of shit father couldn't keep a job to save his life so he made me fight so he could get money off me. Happy now?"
No one said a thing after that. A kind of tension that I couldn't explain surrounded the room. No one moved or talked, but when I peeked through my hand I could see the three boys having a conversation with their eyes.
I ignore all of them as I turn on my side to face away from everyone before closing my eyes and drifting off to sleep yet again. Maybe this time I could sleep more than a few hours without being woken up.
