He walks me all the way to the orphanage from the market. At least it's more pleasant than swinging through the trees like Tarzan (don't ask me who Tarzan is, I don't remember precisely either). Everything in this world is so different. There are no bullet trains, no fancy cars, no sky scrapers, no buildings of sturdy glass that made me my hurt trying to stare at the top disappearing in the sky. The houses here are double-story at most, made of wood and stones; some posh looking ones have tinted textured glass in windows, others have iron nets or bars in place of glass.

I subconsciously keep searching for dark, miserable slums I do not remember descriptions of but I can't find them.

Until I do.

Except they are not as dark and filled with homeless people as I thought they would be. These areas are fairly clean and act as empty spots between buildings.

This is a weird town.

But I recognize the place we’ve stopped at instinctively. It’s like my body remembers this quiet, dark, unfamiliar mass. Even if my mind has forgotten.

We go directly to an isolated office, The strange man has a hood pulled over his face and I’m wrapped in a tiny blanket he picked from the market, I find myself snuggling in his arms, although I do not want to but I don’t care at the moment because my neck is strained beyond exhaustion. A young girl in her late teens at most, keeps peeking over his shoulder to get a better look at me. By her enthusiasm, she seems fairly new to this place. Unlike myself, I do not seem fairly new to the area at all. The walls oddly seem familiar, as if they're going to close in on me,

They all look the same, places that can never be homes.

I shake off the eerie feeling as; Miss Bestrode, as I heard the girl call her that when she was talking to this man who has either abducted me or saved me, enters through the door with a impeccable smile on her face, which wears off quickly when she sees me and zero funds in his hands I presume.

"I am terribly sorry for this Inconvenience" he says

She raises her hand to cut her off "I know your kind very well Mister..."

"Zacharia" he tells her

She tilts her glasses down, sizing him up in her mind "You can submit an application and leave the child with miss Raya, the carer. That'll be all"

She doesn't sound like a fan of giving others space "I'll come back for it after a week at most" he says. Why are you in such a hurry to leave me, mister. I say in my head

She smiles but it's more of a sneer "Of course you will. that's what they all say in the beginning"

Woah. I'm seriously getting tired of all this shit. Why does she keep looking down on people she has never met? I think the odd man with fangs is tired of it too.

He pulls off his hood and stares directly into the headmistress' eyes. Her gaze softens up, almost as if she’s in a trance. He states my case "I'll send the child proper allowance for as long as he remains here. Now it is highly unlikely that this one gets an adoption in that period but if it does, I need you to refuse. Understand?"

Who is he calling, he? I am most definitely not a he.

Am I?

She nods in agreement. I hear him breathe a sigh of relief. I try to kick in his lap to get his attention but I can’t control my reflexes enough to do so. Don't leave me here, please.

He hands me over to miss Raya. The movement shakes the area of blanket covering my head and it falls down, revealing my bare face. The instant carer Raya sees me, her whole demeanor freezes up. She trips and almost drops me, woah! Careful there, lady, I’m a human being

She doesn’t consider me one I think as she’s clearly struggling to get away from me, as if she thinks I’m the vessel for a devil or something.

Haha. I am most certainly not.

Wait... Am I?

I stare at the man who brought me here. From this angle he doesn’t look bad at all. In fact, he’s quite handsome. He has a sharp jawline, pure golden eyes and long dark hair that sticks to his forehead and reaches his shoulders. Add a high nose to that too.

‘Excuse me, mister! But you are really pretty’ I’m shocked at my own thoughts. Here I am going to be submitted to the last place I want to begin my new life in, and I’m thinking about how handsome this crazy man is?

The headmistress gets up from her seat and approaches us but when she sees me, her reaction is not that sophisticated either. Do I look that unusual? Or hideous? Or both?

I bet if the effects of what made her agree to the man before weren't wearing off, she would've thrown me out by now.

I bet she'll try if he leaves me with them.

He turns away. As if that’s not his problem. I try to shout but it comes out as a shriek, I cry in my helplessness. He stops dead in his tracks.

“My world doesn't have any room for a child. It is no place for a child” he says quietly, and slams the door behind him.

Why do I always get left behind?
