Years before time was even recorded, a woman fell in love with an animal.
She spent her time alone in the woods, safe from the rest of the world. There, she found herself, a safe place and love in the woodland creatures.
As time went on, it was like she was accepted into their family. Wolves walked at her side, birds landed on her arms, even bears stayed close. She treated them fairly and they did the same. She didn’t care for the humans; she was one with nature.
One day, as she walked along, she met a man. He was lost, needing to find the village but got stuck in the woods. Kind as always, she led him out, the animals trailing behind her.
The man left and she felt her chest grow tight. He talked to her, treated her like a normal human and didn’t mind her friends that didn’t leave her. He was different.
He was gone.
Convinced she would never see him again, she went back into the heart of the forest.
Yet the next day, he was back in the woods, claiming he dropped something yesterday. She laughed, knowing it was silly, but spent the whole day ‘finding’ his lost item.
They never found it.
Day after day, he found some excuse to be in the woods with her.
He needed firewood
He missed the fox that had attached itself to his leg
His compass was missing
He wanted fresh water from a spring.
Each day he came and each day she accepted to be his guide.
Even though the villagers told him to stay away.
Witch, that was what they called her.
Her abilities were unnatural, her skills frightening. So, she must not be like the rest of them.
He didn’t care.
Though they never shared romantic words, the couple grew closer. Accidental touches became planned, their hands entwining and their bodies sticking as close as they could. It wasn’t long until they became one in word and body, a child making it a threesome.
The child was loved, a little girl who couldn’t be tamed by anyone. She ran with the wolves, flew with the birds, swam with the fish and thrived with nature.
More attention fell onto the family, their wild child was a danger to their children.
They wanted the witch and her spawn gone from their land.
And if they didn’t leave by choice, they would make them leave.
It was a terrible battle, the animals fighting at her side. But the people had fire, stick and weapons, the animals had nothing but claws and teeth. Her husband pushed her and her daughter back, fighting with her friends.
He fell to the floor, blood making a gruesome lake around his body.
Her world fell apart.
Her main companion, a wolf, ran into battle with her. They moved as one body, fighting like a storm and causing destruction. If they wanted a witch, she would become one.
Their bodies blurred together, her fingers becoming claws and her body changing forms. In an unbelievable act, woman and wolf became one body, killing all in her sight.
The people who survived ran, leaving the forest and never entering.
With the battle over, wolf became woman, yet she felt the wolf inside her.
She went back to her family, her daughter crying over her father’s now still body. His fox companion was at his side, sharing in the tears.
That day, her family changed. A wolf that clung to her daughter joined her in body and spirit. When they wanted to, they could change forms and run faster than they ever could on human legs. Together, they ran across the globe, free from terror.
But she missed her husband, every day she wanted him more and more.
Once her child found someone to settle down with, she went back to their forest. There, she laid in his final resting place and died.
Yet she lived on. Her spirit wasn’t human anymore, it was part wolf. She lived in the heavens, finally reunited with her husband; watching their little girl grow up and have children of her own.
Because of her kindness, the animals continued to live close to her family. Each picked their own human, combining souls to be forever entwined.
They were given the chance to live again, but she turned it down. She couldn’t handle dying and leaving her husband alone again. So, she stayed above the clouds, making sure each of her children got their happy ending and the animals found their family again.
Each rebirth was blessed by her, her strings tying strangers together so their spirits could find joy.
As generations passed, her family grew and grew. Each generation there was one daughter that had the ability to talk to her, to pass through the layers of death. Once that child died, they were trained in tying fate and keeping watch.
She observed the family grow into power, loved by their people.
She watched them become feared.
She saw how suddenly her children were being hunted because of fear.
Just like she was years ago with her husband and daughter.
“You must protect your family.”
This daughter was named Lotte, and she was in danger.
“You will not make it out alive, but you must make sure your children do.”
Days later, she was killed along with her father, sister and nephew. Out of fear, the family moved across the globe. War followed, millions of humans and werewolves dying because of jealousy and greed.
Lotte’s husband stayed in their kingdom with their eldest son while the others moved away as soon as they were old enough like their mother ordered them to do.
She watched, making sure they found their happy ending in their new home.
Knowledge was passed through generations, but information was lost. Lotte’s husband told their story to their children who in turn told their families. Like water trickling down a hill, it slowed to a stop and soon entire families had no idea who they were or their purpose.
And danger was coming.
Legend goes, that the Goddess needed a family to trust to protect all her children across the globe. And that is why we are gathered here today, to raise the next generation to know how to protect all their brothers and sisters. And that could only happen with a connection to the Moon Goddess.”
No one spoke as Roza took a deep breathe. Silence filled the once busy area as she opened her mouth and continued.
“We have been working with the Council and we will establish centers in all corners of the world just like the Council did. For the United States and Canada, Josephine Smith will lead her branch of the family.”
Jo stood from her spot, her Fated and children standing with her.
“Working to aid South America we have Julian Fernandez.” Two men followed, along with three young woman.
“Centered in Sweden we have Liam Jones.”
“For Russia we have Ruba Ansari” She paused so the whole family could turn to see who stood.
“In Asia we have Khalid Salim”
“In Africa we have Udo Ibrahim.” A whole group stood
“Lastly, for Oceana Noah Shaw will lead.”
In the end, several people were standing, their families at their side. Pride was flowing from each of them, the new leaders of their homelands.
“Since most of these areas are quite large with a lot of work needed, each family is able to delegate to others that they trust. Problems will be worked out by the Family and Council and peace will be shared across the werewolf world. Trust in the Goddess and her strings of Fate, and things will always work out in the end.”
A cheer followed and Regina jumped up to give her aunt a hug. Families gathered, celebrating the idea of peace across all people. Blood Wolves were gone, the family was connected and they had a plan. Nothing could make this day better.
‘Leader of the US and Canada, that’s a lot of work Jo. You ready for this?’
“Heavens no!” She smiled and shook her head. “But delegation shall be my favorite word for a while. Though I have to say, not too excited to be working with Councilmen Spencer.”
Regina’s face cringed at the thought. Spencer Swanson, the stereotypical American Alpha; loud, annoying and very self-centered. Mila Colemen worked with him and managed to tone him down a little, but it was hard to control a man like that.
‘I believe in you and I’ll do what I can to support you.’
Before she could say anything else, Regina was tackled and thrown to the floor.
“We have a problem!” Tessa continued to blubber, Regina had no idea what the girl was saying.
Running after her sister was Astrid, Conor and Nora, each with a freaked out expression on their face. Right on time, several cell phones went off.
There was the calm before the storm as people glanced down at their notification. Regina’s stomach sunk when she saw it was from Councilmen Colemen.
“URGENT. Mathias has escaped and we think he is coming for you.”
She looked up at Xander, eyes wide as she watched her family react.
They were the connection to the Goddess, the only wolves that could take down a fully powered Blood Wolf. Without them, Mathias could make hundreds of Alphas go crazy and he wouldn’t have anyone to stop him.
And now he was free.
Regina reached out, clutching Richard to her chest. Mary was at her side and she checked that Sammy and Nora were still there. Still, the threat wouldn’t go away if she had all her ducks in a row.
The volume rose as did the levels of panic as families talked about the new danger. If he found out where they lived, he could slaughter them all! How could they fight him when they didn’t know where he was? If took them ten years that last time he got away.
“Silêncio!”
At Roza’s outcry, the family settled back into their chairs.
“Because of this coming danger, everyone is to go back home.”
There were some grumbles, for the people that just arrived it meant another long flight home. But you couldn’t really argue with a woman like Roza.
“Start your command centers, keep an eye out and stay in connection. Report any possible sightings and work with the Council. Now, go back up!”
Chairs were being put up as people flooded back into the house. Families yelled for their young children; Jo was trying to direct traffic with another man in a green shirt.
Regina couldn’t move.
She was the one that was on his trail, she would be the first target. No, he wouldn’t go after her, he would take her children, her Fated, her parents. Then, once she was all alone again, he would go after her.
Once again, she was a small child lost in the woods, unable to do anything. Fear had glued her feet to the floor.
“Astrid!”
Hands were shaking her, but only one person called her that.
Her Moe.
“Astrid, I need you to breathe! You’re panicking but everything will work out in the end.”
She could tell she wasn’t breathing, but she couldn’t stop freaking out.
He was going to kill her babies, Richard was just an infant! Mary Fae couldn’t put up a fight, Sammy and Nora had a chance but they weren’t Royal Wolves.
She couldn’t feel her hands or the ground underneath her. Her eyes closed as her breathing got worse.
“Gina! Look at me darling!”
She couldn’t let him hurt her family, she finally had it all. Why would the Goddess let this happen?
“Gigi?”
Mary. Oh, her little Mary Berry.
Aisha gave her that nickname, Regina still has no idea why it was even given to the little girl. Once she was old enough to talk for herself, Xander asked what she wanted to be called and she said she liked the name Mary Berry for her family.
Regina had to stop this before it destroyed her children’s lives.
Slowly, Regina regained control of her body. Taking in deep breathes, clutching Xanders hands and forcing her eyes open to smile at her mother.
The panic attack passed and Sammy brought over a chair. Regina watched as families left, cars pulling away from the house in a rush. A happy day, now ruined.
‘What is the first plan?’
“Jo want’s everyone to go home and go into hiding a little bit. Corrine and Dena, the next connections to the Goddess, are under strict protection rules with the council. Are you staying here or going back?”
‘I’m staying here Moe.’ She gave her Fated, a smile to wash his worried face away. ‘Call Mom and Dad, tell them what’s going on. And Sergio is gonna want to come up here, tell him that he can; he knows the address.’
Mary was curled in her lap, Rich in Nora’s arms. They could handle this, they did just a few months ago like they did ten years ago.
Regina focused on her family as she pushed the panic aside. First, they had to secure the family and then find where that monster went. No doubt he would try to find another Alpha to trick, they would just need to beat him to the punch.
Nothing to freak out about.
____
Nora was freaking out.
The family had moved inside the house and as soon as she sat on the borrowed bed, her phone went off with a notification.
She expected something from Nana or Papa, but not this.
From: Unknown Number - ‘I know what really happened to Faya and Abraham, your real parents.’
She couldn’t look away from those words.
For years she had gone along with Regina and Xander, ignoring the gap in her heart. Nora wanted to be the big sister to Sammy and if it meant she had to sacrifice her own joy; it was worth it.
But know she had an out, someone out there who knew the truth. Maybe it was someone from her pack, a family member or if anything, someone that cared.
Regina and Xander put on a fake smile, only worried about their real children. She knew the truth, about Ester, Jannie and her parents.
And now she would find this person and bring justice to her parents, her pack and save Jannie.
To: Unknown Number - ‘I want to meet up, how soon can you be in Minnesota?’
She set the phone down, but it rang before she could get ready for bed.
From: Unknown Number - ‘I’m already here and waiting Cor.’
