I was down in my room in the basement when I heard a knock at the door, I quickly got some makeup on the bruises on my face, in case it was actually someone important. Once I was done I quickly ran up the stairs and ran through my house trying not to fall over the many things laying on the ground. I finally reached the door and slowly creaked the door open to see a blonde-haired girl wearing a nice expensive-looking suit.
"Hello..?" I asked staring at her. She quickly looked down at me since she was a bit taller than me.
"Hi!" She smiled. I continued to stare at her, trying to figure out who she was, she must have noticed because just as I was about to ask her who she was she answered it for me.
"Oh right! I'm Mrs. Amelia!" She said sticking out her hand to shake.
"Ace." I said hesitantly placing my hand on hers.
"Ah! Just the person I was looking for! Are your parents home by any chance?" She asked. I quickly got nervous, I knew I shouldn't have opened the door.
"They aren't home" I hissed as I slammed the door in her face. Right as I was about to start walking away, there was another knock at the door, I decided I would ignore it. I walked away from the door. I thought she would take the hint and stop knocking, but she didn't she kept continuously knocking at the door. It was five minutes and I finally had enough, I walked back over to the door and opened it to see Mrs. Amelia still standing there with a smile on her face.
"What do you want! I already told you they aren't home!" I yelled at her, she seemed unfazed by it though.
"No need to get feisty, I would just like to ask you a few questions, could I come in?" She asked, I was just sick of her so I decided to just get it over with.
"Fine" I opened the door and let her in, that's when I remembered how bad the house looked, before I could say anything she was already inside, still unfazed by the mess in the house, I thought she would have been disgusted but it looked like she's seen this kind of mess before.
"Okay so I only have a few questions, but if any of them are too much to answer just tell me and we will move on to the next one, okay?" She explained.
"Okay." I answered.
"Okay great! So first do you have an outside job?" She asked.
"No."
"Okay, are you still attending high school?"
"No."
"Do both your parents have jobs?"
"No only my dad works." I answered and she wrote my answer down on a little notepad she had in her hands.
"Okay, how long is he usually working every day"
"Well most days he doesn't go to his work, but the days he does only a few hours."
"Is he at work now?"
No."
"Where is he then?"
"He's probably hanging out with his friends." I left out the part that he is probably at a club getting drunk with his friends.
"Okay, let's go back to you, what do you usually do during the day?" She asked. I didn't know what to say because my mom usually locks me in the basement unless she wants me to do something while they were gone like today, I had to get the mail. So I said the first thing I could think of.
"Um.. I usually just hang out in my room or walk to the park?" I said kinda more like asking.
"Hm.. Okay, well how do your parents treat you?" She asked, that's when I got really nervous. I started fiddling with the strings of my pants, and I knew she could tell.
"Again, you can always skip questions.." She said sincerely but I knew I couldn't because then she would know something was wrong, so I decided it would be easier to lie.
"N-no it's okay! They're really nice! They are the best parents in the world, I could never ask for better ones!" I quickly said hoping she would believe me. It looks like it worked because her smile reappeared on her face.
"Okay, that's all the questions I have! Thank you for taking the time to answer them! She said as she started walking towards the door. "Have a nice day Ace!" She yelled as she walked out the door.
"You too!" I yelled back with a smile on my face. The door shut and my smile dropped as I looked at the time, My dad would be home soon, I should go back downstairs because I was only supposed to get the mail, then I had to stay in my room. I started walking back downstairs, completely forgetting that Mrs. Amelia moved something.
About an hour later I was sitting on my bed when I hear the front door burst open. I hear my dad's feet drag across the floor, then they stopped. I'm guessing he sat down to sleep. A few minutes later I hear my dad's voice scream.
"Ace! Get up here right now! My dad screamed, I immediately ran up the stairs to see my dad standing in the kitchen glaring right at me. He was holding a vase.
"Y-yes father..?" I mumbled loud enough for him to hear, I stared down at my feet.
"Didn't we tell you to only get the mail and nothing else?" He scolded. I looked back up at him for a quick second before I saw his hand with the vase lift up. I tried to shield myself, but I wasn't quick enough, the next second the vase hit me right in the face, then crashed on the floor. The impact made me fall to the ground right next to the glass. Tears streamed down my face as I quickly lifted my hand to my forehead right above my eyebrow, I could feel the blood dripping down my face.
"Why are things moved!" He screamed.
"I-idk!" I cried while trying to stop the bleeding from my forehead.
"Get this fucking mess cleaned up and stop crying, you sissy! He spat.
"Y-yes, sir!" I quickly got up and grabbed the dustpan and started cleaning up the glass.
Once I finished I ran back downstairs, I didn't want him to be even madder. I cleaned up the cuts on my forehead then headed to bed. I laid on my bed, and almost instantly I felt my eyes get heavy as I fell into a calming darkness. I had no more worries..
But little did I know.. Someone was watching.. Someone that would change my life forever..
