Diana was frightened by the dying man in front of her. Her heart sank at the thought of how much he could be suffering. She hoped that she and Marcos could do something for that poor soul.
From what she had seen of the property, it was easy to see that Baltazar was a man of many possessions and power. Undoubtedly, other competent healers should have already assessed the situation of the head of the Hathaway family. It must have been something really serious if he decided to call Marcos from so far to try to save him.
“Diana, get the grimoire I gave you. I believe there may be something on it about this type of poisoning ” Marcos's voice was calm, but, due to his expression, the concern and tension on his face.
"I will accompany you in the meantime," said Lucian, without taking his eyes off the bedridden man.
No doubt Diana would rather go alone or be accompanied by Hector rather than be accompanied by the young master of the Hathaway family. Her neck still burned where Raul's knife had cut her skin. Even so, for some reason, she couldn't feel angry at Bellini as he just followed orders, instead her anger was directed at Lucian.
The best thing to do was to ignore his presence, Diana thought a little annoyed.
"I'm sorry that you had to go through that little incident," Lucian apologized as soon as the door to the master bedroom closed behind him.
"If you regretted it, you wouldn't have given the order," said Diana in a cold tone, without looking at Lucian, as she headed for the entrance to gather her luggage.
For a second, Lucian didn't know how to react, people weren't used to responding to him that way. The young master laughed inwardly, winning over this girl would be more difficult than he thought.
"Since you don't accept my apology, at least accept that," continued Lucian, reaching for Diana's short steps and holding out a handkerchief.
Diana looked at the handkerchief strangely. She did not understand Lucian's actions, one hour threatening his life the other time being kind and flirtatious. She just wanted to go home. Even upset, she accepted the young master's offer.
"Thanks you," Diana murmured, not looking at Lucian while running the handkerchief over the shallow cut on her neck.
“The wizard seems to be too old to be your father. Is he your grandfather?” continued Lucian, immune to Diana's icy gaze.
“He is my guardian, he has taken care of me since the death of my family,” she said grudgingly. Picking up her pace to grab the spellbook as quickly as possible if it meant not being alone with Lucian any longer.
"Are you an orphan too?" He spoke surprised, taking Diana's small hand into his without thinking.
Just as her skin touched him, Lucian again felt the heat warming his body. It hadn't been a mere impression: Diana made him feel warm again.
The girl didn't like having her hand grabbed by someone like him. She tried to untangle her hand from his, but that only made him squeeze her fingers tighter.
"Let me hold your hands just a moment longer," Lucian murmured, bringing Diana's hand up to his face.
Before she could protest, something in the relieved expression on the young man's handsome face stopped her from withdrawing her hand. Under his fingers, she felt his cool, smooth skin, and she was surprised by such coldness, after all, they were no longer outdoors and there was no frigid wind around.
With a rueful sigh, Lucian finally released the girl's hand, and, almost immediately, what little warmth he felt through the touch of her hand vanished as if it had never existed. A selfish part of the young master wanted to force Diana to touch him forever, but the rational part claimed that if he wanted to feel warm again then he should have patience. After all, to have what he wanted so much, he would have to win the girl. However, Lucian didn't know if he would have enough self-control to wait for much longer.
