It felt fresh after the sudden rain. It was as if everything had been reborn in this brief moment. Walking with purpose, I walked in the warm glow of the morning light, but soon my shoes were soaked from the rain soaked sand. It didn’t bother me, but it made me realize how odd this all was. There is a war going on encompassing everyone and spanning every nation and yet this small corner seemed virtually unaffected. It was the one oasis in the desert of war. A lone tree grew beside a pool of water. For a moment I wondered if it was just a mirage concocted by my battle scarred heart, but every blink assured me it was not going away no matter how dream-like it seemed. Maybe this was the happiness I had been seeking since the war began. Or maybe it was just the breath of fresh air I needed from my heartbreak.
