On my way there I grab coffee from a local place. Don't know much about it but it's hipster central and out of fear for my life I go through the drivethru.
Wow I am such a fucking stereotype. Iced coffee is amazing though so you can't blame me.
Glancing towards my watch, I notice the time.
Holy shit I am so fucking late, time to run.
And y'know me being me I'm an idiot so while I'm running I don't notice the kid tying his shoe in front of my and we both collide. Good thing my coffee was empty.
"What the fuck man!" Oops, forgot about him.
"I'm so sorry dude, I didn't mean to run into you I swear!" Finally, I manage to regain control of my limbs and untangle us.
Only then do I get a decent look at the kid. He's new, I can tell from the lack of terror in his eyes. No not really but the way he's anxiously figiting seems to make sense.
I hold out my hand for him to either shake or pull himself up, he ignores it. Still avoiding eye contact I see, so I retract it.
"You're new, right? I'm Desoto, pleased to make your acquaintance." He side eyes me before finally responding.
"Eerie," I blink slowly because it comes with the territory of being a fucking idiot.
"What?" He sighs before actually looking me in the eyes.
"My name is Eerie, Eerie O'Dell." I go to respond but my mouth just kind of hangs open. I'm fixated on his face because holy shit he's attractive. And not in the way he knows it.
Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit. I look like a fool right now oh my god.
He's tall, taller than me, but thinner, less muscle. Inky black hair falls from a short ponytail framing his pale green eyes.
Desoto is not the smartest, he knows that he won't be no matter how hard he tries. So he makes up for it with pure determination and optimism. He pressures himself to be the comedic relief and it can be debilitating. Something he picked up from his parents.
Eerie tries his best but struggles to keep up with his own expectations and overwhelms himself constantly. He'd much prefer to just pick up his phone and blast some 60s rock while he works on whatever trinket or car he's messing with than face reality. Or his peers.
Maybe these new friends can help each other come to terms with their own issues and help each other. Will they both actually communicate or will they try to run away from each other? Let's find out.
