I remembered the event like it was yesterday; it felt like an earthquake hit the place! Falling down from my bed, I slowly grabbed the frames of the bed to help myself get up from the floor. Muttering in annoyance and hearing the loud voice outside of my bedroom, it was my uncle scolding my little sister, Augusta, again. I headed over to the door, flinging it open to see my uncle still yelling at the girl.
“How many times have I told you to be careful?! This is the second time this week you destroyed my office using your magic, Augusta!” my uncle Chancy shouted.
I watched Augusta looking down at the ground, then my sister just glared back up at my uncle. From what I know, Augusta won’t take his abuse any longer. Considering she hasn’t shown the slightest improvement in her magic skills, my uncle was pondering if my sister was really taking our cause seriously. Perhaps, because our parents died when she was two, my sister didn’t have the same beautiful memories of our parents as I did.
“I’m sorry, Uncle Chancy! I promise I won’t do it again!” She shouted at him.
Sighing, I know my uncle will ask me, once again, to reteach her the spell that I taught her yesterday. Suddenly, the alarms started blaring, which shook me to the core. My uncle shifted his head around to see people running up to him, frantically. Standing there, I couldn’t make out what he was saying. Grabbing a hold of Augusta’s arm, the girl’s body shook in fear, responding to the chaos. Soon, my uncle returned to us, kneeling down to our level with a tense face. Bomb-like sounds blared in my ears when I heard him shouting.
“You girls need to come with me! We are leaving!”
With that, a bunch of men and my uncle grabbed us, running away to find our exit out of the building. Everything became a blur. I do not know who we were running from, but all I knew was we needed to leave. Soon, the people split Augusta and I up, but my sister didn’t want to let me go. She grabbed my arm while I continued to hold on to her, hearing her crying. Fighting through the men, I tried to find her again before one man took me before I could go further.
“Roxanna, you will meet your sister again, I promise, but you need to come with us so we can avoid those damn Outsiders!” The man said.
“But Augusta?!” I yelled.
“The other group will deal with her, and we will meet up with them again. Now come!”
With that, we went on the move. Despite everything that he told me, I never saw Augusta again after the madness was over. When I arrived at the safe location, my sister wasn’t there. Something bad happened to her! My uncle walked up to me as I sat in the chair, waiting for my sister. He touched my shoulder, looking straight into my eyes.
“What happened to Gussie?” I asked.
My uncle sighed, “Outsiders killed Augusta when we tried to escape. I’m… deeply sorry, Roxanna.”
My heart broke into a thousand pieces. I cried for the entire day, with no one to comfort me. Tears stained my pillow while I sobbed her name repeatedly. This went on for the entire night, even though I knew saying her name wouldn’t bring her back. Besides my uncle, Augusta was the only person I had left after my parents died.
They murdered her in the same brutal way our parents were. All I can feel is guilt that I didn’t fight my way through those men to get her to stay with me. Hate raged through my body like a river running upstream. I wanted revenge. Those Outsiders will pay…
