This story is about a young man with an unexpected faith. He was born to a decently normal couple and turned out to be an intelligent child. So much so that he graduated High school at the age of fifteen. At his parents insistence he applied to medical school and was accepted.

Unfortunately, the day he received his medical licence was also the day those same parents died in an accident. Greatly saddened the now young man still applied himself diligently to his work. Finding that he enjoyed it immensely. Furthering his skills he kept on studying more fields of medicine and excelled in all of them.

By the time he was in his forties he had become an accomplished doctor. As life would have it, however, those around him did not see kindly on his success. Jealousy and envy lurked in their hearts.

It started with small things. The wrong patient file. Being paged for no reason. Receiving fake codes. Then it escalated. An OR not being booked for ab important surgery. Misplaced medication, tools, and equipment. Being told false information. Finally it came to the point where he was actively sabotaged. At the cost of his patients. All of those around him pushed the blame on him. Accusing him of their own crimes.

The hospital had no other choice but to fire him and his medical licence was suspended.

No friends. No living relatives. Certainly not a lover. For well over twenty years he had dedicated his life to help others. It had been something he took pride in and enjoyed. Now, it was all gone. For a while he tried to find a new job. Any job. But no one wanted to hire a disgrace former doctor.

One evening after another fruitless day he flopped down on his bed. Still dressed in his track suit and t-shirt. He didn’t even bother to take off his shoes. Staring at the wall he thought to himself.

I wish I could go to a different world. Like those I’ve seen and read about. If I did, I would love to get the chance to help others again. Make a small but significant difference in their lives. Rather than being a hero and fight against monsters, I would be happy if I could only use my skills as a doctor once more.

With that thought the man closed his eyes. Dreaming of a world with magic, adventure, and most importantly – a new beginning.
