The children all looked around 16 years old at most.
"Their old mentor got killed by humans a few weeks ago." Archer spoke softly. "He was kind to them, soft on them. They could get away with anything when it came to that old man." He sighed and moved closer to them. He looked sorry for the situation they were put in.
"That's mine! Give it back!' My head snapped over to where there a group of boys and girls laughing and throwing around a pale white stone.
Archer sighed again and slowly walked over to the the children. He caught the stone impressively in one hand as it was being thrown to one of the other children.
"Who's is this?" He asked strongly, as if he training a group of adults. The children stayed as still as possible, trying not to make a single sound.
The small boy that was telling before stepped forwards. "It's mine sir." He said anxiously. He must've been scared to death.
"What is your name, little boy?"
"It's Kai. Kai Zeen."
"Well Kai, put this somewhere safe, so nobody can get it." Archer handed the stone to the young boy. "And the rest of you! Your behaviour in the past 5 minutes of me being here, has proven that you are in no way a team of obedient young knights. You will do drills until you have shown me you are capable of doing otherwise."
They all looked at him with pure disgust, but they were smart enough not to say anything... Except they weren't smart enough not to say anything, and they said things they would most certainly regret later.
"Who are you to tell us what to do?" One kid yelled.
"You are not our mentor, you're a pathetic excuse for a Knight!" Another chimed in.
Archer just stood there, taking all of the criticism until everyone went silent again.
"Are you done now? Because if you are, I'd like to start with the drills." A few kids groaned, and others looked as if they were going to kill Archer.
"First form!" Archer said loudly, startling a few kids in the process. Again, the children stayed still, but not out of disobedience. They looked confused, as if they didn't know what he was talking about.
Archer sighed once again. He looked to the ground and shook his head. "What I'm I going to do with you?" He whispered under his breath. "We'll start off with running drills also known as First form. Better runners at the back, lesser at the front."
The young knights scrambled to go to their respected places. I stood, wondering where I should go. I wasn't the worst runner, I could outrun the other peasant children, that was for sure, but could that be compared to knights in training? Probably not.
Archer dragged me to the front of the line. I looked at him, betrayal evident in my eyes. "It's only to see how good of a runner you are." He whispered. I nodded and kept my eyes fixed on the running track.
"When you hear the whistle sound, that's when you're meant to run." Archer explained.
I closed my eyes while I waited for the whistle.
I heard the sound and took off running, not bothering to open my eyes. I ran as fast as I could, and never stopped.
Oh god! Am I slowing everyone down? Are they annoyed?
I opened my eyes just a crack, and saw that everyone was in front of me... Did they just get fed up and pass by? That couldn't be the case, since I'm back near the start and didn't hear them pass by...
I stopped at the end of the track and looked at Archer's surprised expression. I looked out to the running track, and saw the children only half way done.
I looked back to Archer. He was frozen in place. "How did you do that..?" He asked, slowly turning his head towards me.
Hmmm, it's unusual for a peasant to run that fast. It explains how he killed that man in the first chapter though right?
We will learn some more names of the young nights in the next chapter 😉
Robin was raised as a peasant in the magical Opal Kingdom. He has jet-black hair like most of the peasant, but his eyes are pale and he lacks the ability to talk, this has resulted in him not having any friends (with Archer as an exception). He developed the powerful gift to detect the difference from each voice he hears. This has lead him to overhear terrible and frightening plans .
Archer was raised to be a skilled knight for the Opal Kingdom. He is tall with a solid build and dark brown hair. Archer was born with the ability to read peoples minds -a very useful power for a knight-. He developed a strong relationship with Robin after he realised Robin could communicate with him telepathically..
The people of Opal were forced to flee suddenly, after a human invasion on the kingdom. The king was slaughtered and many were taken hostage to be used for their power. Those who fled are hidden amongst the humans.
Robin has promised himself that he'll protect his people, and eventually (with the help of Archer) restore the kingdom to it's former glory.
