The sun was just starting to peak out from behind the horizon when Laura had finally woken up. She looked around for a moment, before she saw me sitting on a very old and uncomfortable wooden chair, with my head bobbing from side to side as if I could topple over. She glanced at one of the windows and stood up from the couch. I could tell she was still thinking of trying to escape, so I pointed my knife towards her to show that despite me being tired I could still easily catch her. She stared at my knife for a minute before she looked back at her bandages and seemingly decided against it.
“so… have you decided what we are going to do? Said Laura
I nodded. I then groggily got up from the wooden chair and picked up my camera. After that I gestured for Laura to come. We went to another room in my Cabin that was right across from my room. The room in itself was mostly empty except for the occasional spots of trash, spider webs and mold. I went towards the closet, picked up a few dresses and then held it against her. Laura’s face scrunched up a little bit and one her eyebrows raised. The expression on her face was sort of how I look when I show one of the only emotions I have left: curiosity, but this look was… a bit different.
After seeing if multiple dresses would fit her, much less look good on her, I eventually found a black dress that had a white collar, a white tulle underside and a cascade of white glittering jewels at the skirt of the dress. Not only did this one fit her, but it also looked nice on her compared to the other wildly unflattering dresses.
“perfect” I mumbled.
I handed the dress to Laura and led her to a small shed next to my cabin.
“change in there” I said
Laura stood there, looking at the shed for a moment. After a bit of waiting, I repeated what I said. “Change. In. there.” She sighed and did as I asked. After a minute or so- Laura came out with the dress on, she looked so stunning. We then went back inside the cabin. I told Laura to sit on a chair that was right in front of a makeup dresser. I went to a closet right outside of the room she was in and grabbed a few things to help style her hair. A little over half an hour went by. At this point Laura’s hair was now a bit more tamed than it had been, and by now I begun to do her make up.
“so… are you going to tell me what were going to do, or are going to keep being the silent creepy girl who likes to be cryptic about everything?” said Laura
I stopped for a moment and looked into her eyes.
“…have you heard any rumors about me?” I asked
She slowly shook her head no.
“well… I’m usually known for taking pictures of the dead… not really for kidnapping people... so, I decided I would use this opportunity to take one last picture of something alive… by making you look barely alive…”
Laura leaned away from me in her chair.
“what do you mean by that!”
I let out a huff of air.
“it just means that I’m going to do your makeup to make you look pretty and then I’m going to put red paint and bandages all over you.”
“And you enjoy kidnaping me just to do my makeup and make me look dead?” said Laura
“I usually take pictures of actual dead things, so be happy I’m just making you look dead.”
“…yeah… I’m so honored that I was taken from my home, instead of murdered on sight.”
After she said that, I gently tapped on my knife.
“if you keep talking to me like that, I might start reconsidering murder on sight”
after I did that, the conversation fell short.
Soon we headed outside. I was carrying a small backpack and walked until I found a nice spot to take the photos. The sun was just barely peaking out from behind the horizon as it illuminated The clearing in the forest. In this clearing was a nice ledge that had a stream of water flowing down into the pond below it. I placed a nice pick-nick blanket next to the pond and gave instructions to Laura on posing. A while later I told Laura to go to the top of the ledge, while I stayed at the bottom of the waterfall. She slowly walked to the top as I had told her to, but then suddenly grabbed a sharp rock and threw towards my direction. I swiftly dodged the rock and bolted towards her. Laura ripped the bottom of the long dress and ran off in the opposite direction of me. I quickly dropped my camera, backpack and caught up to her again before I tackled her to the ground. She cleverly grabbed my knife from the holder and slashed at me underneath my mask, right near my right eye. I quickly lunged back to hold the wound near my right eye. Laura started to crawl backwards before she fully got into a running position, but then I swiftly pinned her back to the ground before she could fully get up. Laura kicked, screamed. I felt my grip on both of her arms tighten.
“STOP LAURA!” I squeaked.
Laura looked up at me startled. I felt the blood start to ooze out of my wounds, but that wasn’t the only thing I felt running down my face. A singular salty tear ran down and dripped on Laura, My heart had this achy feeling, and whenever I tried to say something nothing came out but squeaks.
After a moment I slowly let go of Laura’s arms. We both stared at each other. I stared because I was unsure of what to do now, Laura seemed to stare less out of being terrified and more out of being curious about me. I slowly got up, grabbed the knife and told Laura to go back to the bottom of the waterfall. Seconds later I gave her a pack of wipes.
“you can take off your makeup. I’ll show you the way back to your house when your done.”
Laura gave me a confused look. “…. you’re still bleeding.” She pointed out
I touched the spot she had cut me to see how much blood I was losing. When I looked at my hand it was covered in blood. It was a pretty bad cut.
“I’ll bandage it up after I get you home.”
When Laura had finally finished getting the makeup off, I escorted her back.
She took one last glance at me, still horrified and confused at what happened to her, and walked off into the small town. I watched her from a distance as she ran into her older sisters arms, and then started to visibly get scolded.
When I got home I felt empty. The cabin was so quite that the only things I could hear was the sound of wind and the tip, tapping of my cat: Shinx, paws. Laura was the one person I had talked to in a long time. She was also the only person I had taken photos of alive in a long time. I know she didn’t really like me much because I had undeniably kidnaped her, but I did enjoy the time we had together.
Shinx came up to me and meowed affectionately. I picked her up and sat on the couch as I petted her.
It doesn’t really matter much anyways. Even If I wanted her back I couldn’t do that again. If I did that more than once word would get out of the town and the police would start to notice. What I did was incredibly risky on its own.
5 days later
Today I sat on a large tree branch of an incredibly giant spruce tree, the smell of it filled the air around me as I took pictures of a nest with dead baby birds in it. After a moment I heard the distant sound of a twig breaking. I didn’t think much of it because there’s always animals roaming the forest. But then I saw the glint of something out of the corner of my eye. When I looked down towards the ground below me, I saw someone standing at the bottom of the tree holding a knife….It was Laura.
