Class felt like it went on forever, just droning on and on. I was practically a zombie by the time the final bell rang for the day, and I still had to bike home. My mind still wondered about the weird girl I had seen earlier, but it's like she disappeared or something because after that period I didn't see her again. Maybe she finally went to class or something.
"Oh look poor Ariella has to ride her bike home. Oh how I pity the poor!" Shelby sneered to her friends as she walked by. I flipped her the finger and continued unchaining my bike. Even if I could afford a car, it's not like I'm old enough to drive or anything. If the upper class had more interest in me I could totally date a guy who has a car, then I wouldn't have to worry about biking to school. A girl can dream anyway, but I mean it would be nice to have a boyfriend, but nobody wants to date that loser chick. That's okay though I have my video games.
"Hey Ari want to come over? My parents are both working late tonight." Cassie asked. Her mom is a surgeon and her dad is a ER doctor so she often had the place to herself, and tonight would be no exception.
"Sure. Beats the hell out of going home to my mom. She's PMSing or something I swear." I shrugged, hopping onto my bike. Cassie got her moped out as well, coming from a wealthy family she'll probably have a brand new car the minute she turns sixteen but for now she settled for one of those fancy Italian mopeds. Beats riding a bike any day. "Son of a bitch. I forgot my math book in my locker. Go ahead without me, I'll meet you there."
She looked skeptical. "Since when do you care about math?"
"Uh since I want to actually pass the class? I'd die of embarrassment if I had to retake it." I sighed, chaining my bike back up.
"You are pretty shit at math. Maybe if you actually did homework for once." She shrugged, getting on her moped.
"Why do you think I'm bringing the book home? For fun?" I admit I was a bit snippy but Cassie just let it roll off her.
Cassie rode off on her little Italian moped while I reluctantly went back inside for my textbook. I was at least making an effort to bring the book home, now cracking it open was a completely different story. I put in my combination and opened the locker, glancing around as the quiet hallway made me suspicious. Even after school it isn't this quiet, there's always some sports team or after hours activity making the halls lively and loud, yet right now it is just quiet. I grabbed my book quickly and rushed off.
“Oof!” I gasped, bumping into another person, finding myself on the ground on top of them.
“I’m sorry are you okay?” His voice was warm and inviting as he helped me up.
“Oh, uh Adam, I’m sorry! No uh I’m fine!” I stuttered losing any intellect I may have had when I saw who I slammed into. Ugh why me?!
"Here, you dropped this." He handed me the math textbook I dropped when we bumped into each other.
Of course, I had to bump into one of the most popular seniors, he seemed pretty nice though, and nice to look at.
"I hear you're a pretty good runner." It was obvious he was making small talk, but I was absolutely proud of my abilities in cross country and track.
"Ye-yeah." I stammered, feeling my face starting to heat.
"Well I've got to go, I promised some friends I'd drive them home, but maybe we could hang out sometime."
"Uh yeah sure." I kept calm but inside I was screaming and running laps.
