CHAPTER II: Life After Death Part II
School! School? School!?
How long had it been since I attended something like a school? Things like educational facilities existed in the other world but I never really paid attention to them. In fact, I purposely avoided them. Now that I think about it, I remember having some trauma from school in the past. The trauma that I had in the past must have been the reason why I was so closed off from the world. Well now I can stop any of that from happening.
After spacing out thinking and trying to remember what the trauma was, my sister asked, “Hey, you’ve been pretty excited to go to school lately. Normally you would throw a fit and act like a ten year old child when I tell you to prepare for school.” I replied in irritation shouting, “HEY!” before cutting off my short reply. She continued saying, “So tell me little brother. What’s made the difference today?” Staring off to the passing buildings I replied with a smile saying, “You did…” After I said that the car went completely silent not until I was drop off at school with a stuttering goodbye.
I walked around the school campus aimlessly. Don’t get me wrong I had a reason for this. The reason was…. Well…. I forgot where my classroom was!? After wondering around aimlessly for a couple more minutes I hear my name being called in a distance. The voice was so familiar and the louder and closer it got the louder my heart thumped. I didn’t understand what this was. The person who was calling me grabbed onto my shoulder and shouted, “Where do you think you’re going Liam!?” When I had turned around to look at who it was and immediately recognized this low pitched, cracking, terrible voice. Even though we were both in our final year he’s voice sounded like he was passing through puberty again. It was my best friend Tyrone Johnson. He grabbed onto my hand and dragged me to class. I was still too overwhelmed to say anything. In my past Tyrone had died but I couldn’t remember how. This time I decided I’ll do everything in my power to save Tyrone. In the other world trust is one of the most important things and I will need powerful but trust worthy allies. Tyrone already had a thin body but his body was far from frail. I already had an idea of what role would suit Tyrone.
Classes continued and for some reason knowledge was being absorbed at faster rates that in my previous life. There was no reason why my knowledge absorption would be this fast compared to my previous life. But I came up with a hypothesis, I just had to prove it somehow. The bell rang to signal lunch break. Tyrone and I walked towards the cafeteria. The entire way to the cafeteria Tyrone went on and on about some video game he was playing last night. It involved swords and magic and from what I heard it was pretty similar to the other world. I figured it would be good if he became more familiar with the other world before we actually get there. My time with Tyrone at the cafeteria was cut short. This was because he just suddenly disappeared. I went around looking for him but he was nowhere to be found. The bell rang signaling the end of lunch break. Classes had started and Tyrone was still nowhere to be found. This worried be me greatly. The bell rang once again signaling the end of lessons and I still couldn’t find Tyrone. My sister came to pick me up just on time like some kind of super mom. But I told her I’ll get home alone and that she didn’t have to worry about picking me up from school. I went on to tell her that I’m 17 years old and I could take care of myself.
After waiting at the school gates for 3 hours straight a group of boys who looked like trouble as they were smoking and had beer bottles with them came from the school grounds and they were wearing our school uniform. As they passed me I heard one of them whisper,“Hey isn’t that the monkey’s friend? They were together at lunch right?” They replied, “Well screw me if I’m wrong but it is him! Let’s tell him where the monkey is.” They approached me and said, “Hey twerp aren’t you the monkey’s friend?” At this point I clearly knew who they were talking about, but I decided to play it dumb. I replied, “What monkey?” One of the boys in the group shouted, “Don’t play dumb with us you know who the monkey is!!” The one who I assumed was the leader shut the guy up and said, “I guess you don’t know. Well they do name monkey nowadays but what was his name again?” He scratched his head in irritation and frustration as a gesture to show how insignificant this name was he then went on to say, “Was is Trevor? Or Trevon? Why do all these monkeys have similar names? It starts with a T I’m on the right track!!! Yeah now I remember, his name is Tyrone!” I decided to continue playing dumb and told him, “Oh yeah Tyrone! I was looking for him have you seen him?” He replied saying, “Yeah of course the last time I saw him he was behind the tool shed. Just go check there, I’m sure you’ll find him there.” He and his group walked away laughing and continued smoking as they were leaving the school grounds. I still didn’t know the school so I went and asked one of the school janitors where the tool shed was. He gave me directions and I quickly rushed there not knowing the scene that would await me.
No sooner had I reached than I saw him bruised and battered. It was a scene that was infuriating down to the bone. With the way I had learnt to suppress my feelings in the other world I didn’t show feelings. I shouted his name to get his attention. I approached him slowly and asked what had happened to him. He remained silent and the mumbled, “I’m okay..” with a saddening smile painted on his face. He told me not to worry and he’s wounds would have been healed by tomorrow. He’s words were somewhat true. Tyrone did have a skinny but strong body. His regenerative abilities far surpassed that of a normal human male. But he answered the wrong question. I really wasn’t worried about the well being of his body but of his emotions. Tyrone was an emotionally strong person. You would insult him as much as you wanted but it wouldn’t get to him as much. But there was always just that one things that set him off. Just like me Tyrone is and orphan. His parents lost their lives in a fire. Their home was set ablaze in the night when robbers broke it to rob the place. As the place was burning down his parents were able to lift him to crawl out of the air vent in the room they were lock in. But the air vent was too small for them to fit so they stayed in the room and were burnt to death. He watched as all this happened. Imagine how much that would scar a child who was only 7 years old at the time. Well I decided not to ask any further questions because he was unstable at the moment so I gave him time to calm down.
The next day of school I didn’t hang out with Tyrone. I had my reasons the first obviously being the awkwardness we would have when confronting each other. The second would be because I wanted to gather information on the guys that bullied and picked on Tyrone.
Mitch Garrison! That’s the name of the leader of all bullies in Noble Star High. He was among the boys that approached me yesterday. A tall guy with gray hair and golden eyes. He looked like he was very fit probably from all the bullying and fighting in the school. Turns out Mitch was part of some gang but I didn’t really care. I tried finding out why he was bullying Tyrone. What I found out disgusted me to the bone. Whether in this world or the other world, racism will always exist. In this world There as races of humans and Tyrone is Negroid(black). Then there’s the obvious idiot who believes in white supremacy, Mitch Garrison. Compared to this world I honestly think the other world’s type of racism is more civilized but more brutal. In the other world Humans believe in Human supremacy and Elves believe in Elven supremacy and it’s the same case with the Dwarves and many other. The only race that doesn’t believe in supremacy are the Beastmen race but they do hate humans with a passion. Well I eventually managed to get the kingdoms to unite but that was thanks to the Devil kings appearance. Anyway racism is still racism who am I kidding there’s no such thing as civilized racism or uncivilized. Mitch is racist and I figured I would have to confront him for my friend.
