The girl looked at him. "Why are you stoking me?" she said.
"Um..." he turned red. "You have a good shot. We could use you on the team you know."
The girl looked at him like he was crazy. "THAT'S IT?" she yelled.
"What do you mean THAT'S IT?!" he shouted. "I'm asking you if you wanna be on the hockey team-"
"Ya, no thanks." said the girl immediately.
"What!" Ron said. "You haven't even heard what I have to say!"
The girl sighed. "I already know what you're going to say," she said. "Your gonna tell me all the good reasons why I should join," she said and shot the puck against the wall again.
"Well, this could be different," said Ron.
"I'm ok buddy," she said and aimed the stick at Ron.
"Fine but why don't you come Saturday to that new restaurant down the street," said Ron. "We can discuss this there," Ron said and left.
Saturday came and Ron got dressed and skateboarded to the new restaurant. The girl was already there.
"Hey..." he said awkwardly.
She rolled her eyes. "You were supposed to be here over half an hour ago!" she said, pointing to her watch.
"Sorry!" he said. "Yeesh," he muttered.
They both walked into the restaurant and sat at a table. Soon, a waitress came by.
"Hey! Are you ready to order?"
"Yup," Ron said. "I'll have the chicken tender burger," he said.
"Awesome! And what about you?" said the waitress as she scribbled Ron's order on her notepad. She then looked a the girl.
"Um...I'll just have some salad," she said.
"Alright!" said the waitress scribbling her order. "Drinks?"
"Just coke for both of us," said Ron.
"Ok!" said the waitress scribbling that down too. "Alright! Your order will be arriving in about 15-20 minutes! Enjoy!" she said and left to get the drinks.
Ron stared out the side window. It was dark now. Ron predicted it was around 9:00. He looked in front of him where the girl was sitting. She was on her phone and hadn't looked up from it for a long time. Ron cleared his throat. The girl still did nothing.
"So..." he said. "What's your name?" he asked.
The girl kept her gaze on her phone. "Katey."
"So...Katey...I'm Ronald but you can call me Ron-"
"I know," said Katey looking up from her phone. "You're the guy that use to trip me in kindergarten because you and your stupid friends always make fun of my shoes," she said and looked back at her phone.
Ron was taken aback. "You-that was you?" he said.
"Mhm."
Ron sighed. "Look. That was a long time ago. I was stupid in kindergarten but now I'm a better person-"
Katey sniggered.
"What?" said Ron.
"Better person? You're even worse now! You suck at apologies and all you do is try to impress people with your skateboard, which by the way, nobody thinks is cool." she said.
"More like only YOU don't think it's cool," said Ron.
"Pshhh. Trust me. A LOT of people don't think you're cool."
Ron sighed. This is already going bad. He thought.
Soon after, their order arrived. "Here you go and Bonne Appetit!" said the waitress.
Ron and Katey silently ate their meal. Ron thought of ways to make it up to Katey since he just found out he was her target.
After they finished their meal, (With very little conversation going) Ron stood up.
"Let's get some dessert. It'll be my er-apology," he said.
"Whatever," said Katey.
They paid for the food and then left.
"So...where are we going?" Katey asked.
"Oh just then new ice cream place up the block," Ron replied. "Come on, let's go!"
They walked across the street and arrived at the ice cream store. Ron and Katey and sat down at a seat. They both ordered chocolate ice cream.
"So...um to make it up to you..." Ron said.
"Boys suck at apologies," Katey said. "Just say it!"
"Ugh. Fine. I'm sorry for what I've done over the years...I hope you can forgive me?"
Katey laughed. "It's fine," she said and
"Heh. Ya." Ron said. Great! Now I can ask her to be on the team! He thought.
"So, do you wanna-"
Just then Katey froze. She jumped up. "I-I have to go!" she said, staring at the window cautiously.
"What why?" Ron said. He looked out the window. A red car pulled up the street.
"I just do," she said and grabbed her sweater and burst through the door. She star speed walking.
Ron followed her. "Wait! Why are you running? Tell me-"
"It's none of your business ok!?" she yelled. "I just- I have to leave, and I can't let you in my way!" she yelled and stormed off.
Ron took this in. What did I do that was wrong? He thought to himself. He decided just to go. He walked to his house and when he walked in his mother was sleeping on the couch while the TV was on. Ron turned it off and went upstairs.
Wait a minute. Ron thought. She yelled at me for no reason!
Ron decided not to ask her on the team. Why did she leave?
But my dear readers, if you were paying attention you might remember that red car. But we will never know who was in there.
