Kenma woke up to a room full of nothingness, something he was not particularly used to. He was surprised that Kuroo didn't barge in like he did every day, he was normally much more persistent. Kenma got out of bed thinking about how hurt Kuroo must have been after he yelled at him. Kuroo was very resilient but he had a soft spot for Kenma. Kenma got ready for school and went in early so he could go see the nurse. He explained the accident to her and she gave him a temporary cast but he would have to eventually go to the doctor for a more permanent solution. The bell rang and Kenma was on his way to the library when he saw Kuroo at the end of the hall right by the library doors. He was talking to some girl when he noticed Kenma standing about 4 yards away. They made eye contact and what happened after that was just sad. Kuroo looked at Kenma with remorse and eventually looked away, falling back into his conversation. Kenma was hurt by that even though he was the one who said not to talk to him, he didn't mean it. Kenma walked into the library and stayed there all day. He stayed for an extra 20 minutes so that he wouldn't have to see Kuroo again. He grabbed his bag and put his phone in his pocket as he aimlessly walked through the hall drowning in his thoughts. When he reached the exit he noticed someone was still there. He wondered who opened the door and saw Kuroo leaning against the retaining wall beside the stairs. He stopped just outside the door looking at Kuroo ‘he waited for me’ Kenma thought as his cheeks flushed red and his heart began to flutter. His happiness and relief was quickly flooded by embarrassment when the doors opened once more and the same girl from earlier came out walking towards Kuroo. “We can go now.” She said as she waved a folder around. “Great, let's go.”Kuroo siad breaking eye contact with Kenma. ``Oh hey Kenma, I didn't see you there.” She said looking back to greet him. “H-hey Kagura.” Kenma said halfheartedly. “Do you wanna walk back with us, we were just about to head back to the dorms.” “No thanks I have something to go do, but thanks for offering.” Kenma siad fighting back tears as he stood under the awning of the school's main entrance. Kuroo and Kagura walked off back to the dorms and Kenma went to the bakery. He sat by the window as it started to get darker. He finished his pie, paid, and left. On his way home he thought about how he was going to get himself out of this one. “Why am I so stupid, I need him but he doesnt need me at all. It hasn't even been 72 hours and he's already replaced me. What Am i gonna do?” He baggred himself all the way home. When he got back to his dorm he saw Kagura coming out of Kuroos room, he hid behind the sofa in the common room listening to their conversation. “Thanks for the help, I feel a lot better now.” Kuroo said, leaning against the door frame. “No problem, you know i'd do anything for you just don't be so chicken.” Kagua said as she put on her jacket and said her goodbye “I'm not a chicken, I'm a rooster.” Kuroo yelled to her down the hall. “Oh yea, prove it, he's hiding behind the couch.” Kagura yelled back as she turned back around and headed back to the girls' dorms. Kuroo was confused for a moment so he walked into the common room and looked behind the couch, and there was Kenma. “What are you doing?” “I uh- dropped my phone, so I was just grabbing it.” Kenma said as he stood up and walked from behind the couch. They stood there awkwardly looking everywhere but at each other, until the silence finally broke. “Do you wanna come in, its 20 past curfew the monitors will be coming soon.” “Yeah, that would be great.” “Cool.” They walked into kuroos room and there was a giant silent Kuroo standing by his bedside table and Kenma was aimlessly standing in front of the door. “I'm sorry!” He said rather loudly “Kenma its-''Kenma cut him off as he said “no let me finish I have to say this, I never will.” He exclaimed as he took a few steps closer to Kuroo. “I'm sorry for yelling at you, and I'm sorry for being late to practice all the time.” “Kenma.” “No, and I'm sorry for taking you for granted, and I'm gonna work on doing things on my own so you dont alwasehave to come and save me.” “Kenma.” “And you can't be with Kagura because you're supposed to be with me, and I- I love you!” “KENMA!” “What?” “ Will you shut up so I can kiss you?” Before Kenma could answer he was already back in Kuroos arms. Later that night they made up and it was like nothing ever happened. It's crazy how one day apart can make you realize how attached you are to someone. They thought about the day that Kuroo knocked on Kenma's door asking him to come play volleyball when they were kids, and they've been inseparable ever since. “Hey Kuroo, can we do something fun tomorrow?” “Sure.” And just like that everything faded away and they went back into their own little world.
