"Hey, are you okay?" Zane put a hand on the man's shoulder. "Everything will be fine…"
The man stared at the floor, his suit covered with burn holes and much of the left sleeve torn off. Zane assumed that the man must have been close to the explosion, or that he had run outside through the flames. When Zane took a closer look at the man who leaned forward that one might think he would fall over at any moment, he noticed that there was only a stump of his arm left under the torn-off sleeve. Was it torn off by the explosion?
It didn't seem to be bleeding, and on closer inspection, it looked like broken china or glass, as if the arm had been broken. Zane's gaze wandered further upwards, when he reached the chest area, he noticed that the man's shirt was also torn and exposed his upper body. Purple veins and black spots emanating from the veins spread across his chest and seemed to run up towards his head.
When Zane’s gaze wanted to follow the veins up, something suddenly fell from above on the back of his hand. It was a hair, no, a whole tuft of hair.
"Are you okay?" Zane hesitantly repeated his question as he looked at the man's bowed head. The man hadn't made a sound. But now, as if awakened by Zane's question, he raised his head to look at Zane and grabbed Zane's shoulder with his right arm. A disfigured grimace stared at Zane.
The man had lost all of his hair and his face was sunken in so that the shape of the skull could be clearly seen. The ears and nose were gone, it seemed as if they had merged with the skin underneath, which stretched tightly over the skull. The lips also seemed to be partially fused together and the skin pulled like threads over the mouth. His right eye socket was deeply sunken in and where the eye was supposed to be there was nothing. The left eye, however, was overgrown, a large, pulsating, crystalline scar now stretched over it and across the skull. The black spots and veins in the chest seemed to be slowly spreading across the man's body and fractures, like the ones on his arm, appeared on different parts of his body.
In a panic, Zane pushed the man or creature away from him. As it fell backward, there was a pained sound: "HEEEPPP MMM!"
The creature stumbled backward, and Zane saw the rest of the body, which had changed in the few moments Zane had held it. The china arm seemed to have gotten shorter and black tendrils seemed to be breaking out of the rest of the arm. The left arm, riddled with fractures and veins, was unnaturally long and the hand had mutated into a four-fingered claw.
"Didn't you hear me? I said wait!” Zero grabbed Zane's right shoulder.
However, the trembling Zane did not respond to Zero's reproachful words.
"W ... What ... What is that?" Zane stammered, not averting his gaze from the creature.
Zero's gaze followed Zane's questioning words and fell on the man Zane had pushed away for no reason. At the same moment, Nathan exclaimed, "Zane, Zero! Pay attention!"
"They are ..." Zero started to stutter.
"Oh my god," Asagi put her hands over her mouth in shock.
The creature had found its balance again and was preparing to approach Zane and Zero. But more people came out of the side streets and one of the side doors of the bordering building behind him. They too had black spots everywhere and veins pulsed on their bodies.
One's left arm had become very long, and another joint seemed to have formed. The upper body clothing was missing and revealed the sunken, almost parched chest. The shape of the rib cage and vertebrae were clearly visible.
A third one was missing the head and black crystalline forms had formed at the base of the neck. The right hand was four times its size and the bone structure seemed to have changed dramatically.
Another man leaned back so much that one thought his head would fall off any moment. The white coat he wore identified him as a doctor. But he was also covered by the black spots and veins that covered his body.
The black spots of the first being had meanwhile spread strongly and more than two-thirds of the skull had now assumed the black color of the spots. It also seemed as if disturbances were being created around the being. Like the flicker of an old television, the room seemed to be barely noticeably distorted.
"They are ... Infected ...", Zero identified the creatures slowly walking towards them.
As if to answer Zero, the first being gave a high-pitched scream.
Afterword
Hey, Draxinic here, I will keep this short since I’m making this text up shortly before the release.
Finally, I can present you the first chapter of Infection. Kept you waiting long enough after all, after two Manga attempts and a messed up lightnovel attempt, here is the final product! I won’t make another attempt this time and keep up with this version 9(>o<)9
This first chapter is pretty long since it’s really close to the manga remake. The following chapters will be a bit shorter, which should helpful with the publishing.
The text is probably not the best yet, but I am going to work hard to make the story better with each chapter. I would be glad if you accompany me on this journey.
And that’s it already, I hope you enjoy this first chapter with all the details I added.
Now what is left is to thank all of you who supported me over these past years. Editors, friends, Patreons and Streamingviewers THANK YOU!
And a thank you to all readers as well!
Till next chapter DraXiniC
