The team exited their jet quietly, leaving one of the scientists and the tech woman on board. Their intel was limited. They knew only that a woman was reported in these woods, somewhat close to their location, and that she apparently had some sort of superpower. Aliens of some kinds were known to earth as were people with powers from one source or another. While they weren’t commonplace, they were known. It could always be explained by science, and humanity was advancing as scientists like the ones on this team worked on and studied the people and technology. However, new reports on undocumented supes was to be kept on the down-low and kept from the general public, for everyone’s safety.
As the team entered the forest, the birds cried even louder as the trees continued to stay unnaturally still. About a mile in, it became more dense and the birds quieted completely. The team leader remained tall and forward but the scientist, a short brown-haired woman carrying a briefcase to her chest, began to sweat, though the air was cool and a light breeze drifted past them. Even the combat agents began to get nervous and palmed their guns when the forest quieted completely, the breeze died, and the canopy became so choked the barest of sunlight made it to the forest floor. They walked for some time like that, tripping and cursing at the unmoved trees.
Suddenly the group seemed to fall through a wall of vegetation and stumbled into a large clearing. The glen was spotted with patches of wildflowers and a lake lay off to the right. Here the breeze blew again, bringing a sweet smell, and the sun shone brightly, shining off of the surface of the lake. It was at the shores of that lake that they spotted their subject, standing and facing them, with a slight smile.
