People were confusing.
They all started getting upset.
Regina even stopped breathing.
She didn’t understand any of it.
They had gone inside, each with their own bed.
She stared at the ceiling.
Was she supposed to sleep?
What was she supposed to be doing?
Why wasn’t anyone telling her what to do?
It used to be so easy.
The man would come in, say what he wanted and then he left.
Now, Regina kept saying she could do what she wanted.
Regina wanted her to learn English.
She wanted her to do things by herself.
It scared her.
How was she supposed to know what to do if no one was going to tell her?
What if she made the wrong choice?
Nothing made sense.
Then, she heard a noise.
The front door creaked open, calling for her.
She was awake to protect the family.
And something was in danger.
Without a single noise, Silver floated out the door.
Nora wasn’t asleep.
She was supposed to be in bed upstairs with Samantha.
Something was wrong.
So, she followed.
Nora walked across the field, into the trees.
It was 6 minuets and 25 seconds later that she stopped.
The man came out of the forest.
Instinct over took her and she ran, falling on her knees at his feet.
He came back!
He came back!
He came back!
But, Regina told her to stay with her and the family?
But he was back!
Everything was so confusing!
____
She thought she had been quiet, but apparently Silver had heard her.
‘We shouldn’t be here Nora’
Nora silenced her wolf, it weakly went back to its corner.
“Ah, still in perfect condition.” Mathias bent down to pet her head like she was a pet. “I knew Regina had taken it but I didn’t think Regina would keep it at her side.”
“Who is she? And how do you know me Mathias?”
Nora wanted, no, needed answers.
Silver didn’t even move, it made Nora shiver.
“This, is my pet that I stole from your father.” She glanced down at that, her father was connected to her? “Your father did many things most would call evil, but he was just a unique man with unique tastes. One, is this little beast, an Omega he stole years and years ago.”
“You know Regina is actually your sister?”
What?
“Yup,” He smirked at her confused face. “She was your older sister; her name is Ester and she ran away years before Jannie was even born. She was tricked by the people she calls parents that Abraham had kidnapped her. Her life is not true, and she has no idea.”
Mathias frowned, and Nora reached a hand out. Mathias was her father’s right-hand man, she remembered that much. He probably remembered when Ester ran away and when she came back to hurt her father and mother.
Mother.
“She killed her, didn’t she?”
Nora didn’t even have to say her name to catch his attention.
“How much do you remember?”
“I knew Regina wasn’t my mother, she was too young. I knew my parents died when she came back and ruined everything. And now she’s tricking Jannie too!”
She had to save her sister before it was too late!
“You have most of the truth. Ester came back but she fought back, believing more lies instead of her family. In her rage, she killed her mother, Faya. Your father was devastated, he attacked her and she killed him along with these other Royals.” He reached out, grasping her face. “She took you and Jannie from me before I could do anything. His pet was the only thing I could reach other than those sisters of Xander. They were my revenge for them taking you.”
She couldn’t believe it. How could Regina do that! To her own parents? Her mother did nothing wrong, she was a light, pure and perfect. But she was gone and Nora had to avenge her mother.
“What can I do?”
Mathias smiled and Nora stood strong.
“Your father was in a specific training program that strengthened his wolf and dulled his human judgements. If you came with me, I could help you become strong enough to help Jannie.”
“Why not get her now?” She took a step back to the house but Mathias’s hand yanked on her shoulders.
“You go in and you won’t be able to get out again. Become strong so you can save her without risking your life. Avenge your family with your Alpha wolf at it’s true potential.”
Alpha wolf? Kuramis was a wimp, hiding in her corner. Sure, her fur had a red tint but it wasn’t enough to say she was an alpha.
“Your father was the strongest Alpha in the land before the Royals came forth. You can be just like him.”
Just like him. Nora closed her eyes, remembering his powerful eyes and the strength in his body. Just like him.
“I will do what I must, I will save my family and avenge those long gone.”
“I knew you would agree.” His face turned down to Silver who hadn’t moved. “How silly, this is why omegas are the weakest of us all. You kick them around and they change to fit your wishes. Do you know who this is?”
Nora shook her head and he continued.
“Ester had a twin, but she was a weak Omega. She wasn’t fit for anything. So he stuck her into a room with no windows until she became the perfect pet. She used to have a name, but even I don’t remember it anymore.”
He kicked the girl and she stood, head down and arms together. Mathias pointed back to the house, pushing at her back. Without any resistance, she left, going back to the house.
“Now that that’s taken care of,” He held his hand out to her. “Cor, are you ready?”
She took his hand and they disappeared into the forest
____
Her chest hurt.
He came back!
But he sent her away.
He told her to go back.
He wasn’t going to take her with him.
What was she supposed to do now?
He didn’t want her
Regina didn’t control her
What could be next?
Her footsteps faltered, stopping on the edge of the trees.
She had no master
She had no purpose
She had nothing
Was nothing.
She fell to her knees, the sticks poking her skin but it didn’t register.
Her chest hurt more than her knees.
Water was pouring down her face
Why?
Why was this happening to her?
She was good
She listened
She obeyed perfectly.
Still, he walked away without looking back.
He left her.
He wasn’t going to be coming back.
Falling to the ground, Silver finally gave up.
____
'WAKE UP!'
Regina jerked up, waking Xander at the same time. She was out of the bed and putting on day clothes before his eyes even opened.
“Gina, was goin on?”
He looked up, waking all the way up seeing tears on his wife’s face.
‘Silver and Nora are in danger.’
Xander shifted first, Kalmte feeling protective over his cub. Regina followed, knowing it would be faster than running.
Because Viribus was keeping Silver alive, Regina could sense where she was no matter what. She never thought they would need to use it but now she was thankful for it.
They quickly found her, fallen near the trees, but Nora wasn’t there.
Why would Viribus say she was in danger if she wasn’t out here?
‘Nora isn’t in bed!’
Sammy didn’t know where she was, had she been kidnapped?
Then Xander started to growl at the ground. Because of his ranking he was the better tracker, which meant she was taken.
‘By Mathias!’
‘Mathias!’ He went futher into the woods as Sammy reached them. ‘Stay with her, and keep an eye out!’
Running into the woods, the smell of Mathias got heavier. He was there, with their daughter! What if he had gotten into the house? Rich and Mary Fae were diffenseless, they couldn’t do anything against a guy like him.
She never thought he would come after them, they lived in a house full of Royal wolves for Goddess Sake!
When they reached the pack line, it all made sense.
An Alpha hadn’t been set up yet so no one was notified about it being crossed. Mathias had gotten away with Nora.
‘Regina?’ Liam came out of the trees, with William behind him. ‘What are you guys doing out here?’
‘Mathias took Nora!’
‘He was right here and you guys missed him!’
‘Why weren’t you here!’
Both went off, upset at any living thing, including themselves.
‘Gigi.’ They turned to see Sammy walking with Silver on her back. ‘It’s not their fault. Nora knows how to sneak and Mathias is probably better than her. There was nothing we could do.’
Regina went over, nuzzling her daughter. ‘How are you more mature than I am Sammy?’
If wolves could smile, Sammy would.
‘Call it life experience.’
‘Regina,’ She turned back to Liam and Xander. ‘Xander explained everything and William went back to get some warriors. We will do all we can to find her but you need to stay with your children. If he took one, he could try to get the others.’
Rich and Mary, they were back there alone with no protection.
‘Thank you, Liam, may the Goddess watch over you.’
With Silver, they couldn’t run at full speed. Xander went ahead, confirming they were okay when he got home. Regina stayed with Sammy, unsure of an ambush or any other plans Mathias might have made up.
Xander exited the house in human form and dressed, taking Silver to her room. Grabbing some clothes he left behind, both women shifted and Regina took Sammy to her room.
‘You alright sleeping alone?’
“No.” Sammy laughed at her mother’s face. “Don’t worry Gigi, I know that Liam is watching the line and you and Xixi are watching over me. I just haven’t slept alone in years, even when we were with him. It’s too quiet without her snores.”
Regina brushed hair out of Sammy’s face, leaning over with a kiss. ‘I know you are an adult, but you can sleep with us if it ever is too much.’
Regina couldn’t sleep.
Silver had most likely gone out because of Nora; Regina had forgotten to tell her to go to sleep. But, she was living with Mathias before, she couldn’t attack him even if Nora had told her too. Her loyalty to him had no faults, Regina was only just building their relationship.
Had Nora called out of them? Was she even aware or had he kept her asleep? What if she called for help but Silver wasn’t able to help because of her loyalty to Mathias?
Regina remembered how scary it was to be taken from all you knew and loved. Nora was a smart girl and was old enough to not panic. That didn’t mean she wasn’t terrified. They had to find her sooner rather than later. Before anything horrible happened to her little girl.
____
Mary Fae didn’t understand why her big sister wasn’t there for breakfast, no matter how many times Xander re-explained it.
“Will she come later?”
He sighed, leaning over the counter, facing away from her. He was just as upset as her but as her father, he couldn’t show it. He had to be strong her for.
“Good morning!”
Another family member greeted him, but he had no idea who they were. Families had grouped together in the massive dining room. Sure, most had left but there were still enough to feel crowded.
Sammy came down next, and it looked like she hadn’t slept either. Her hair was a mess, her clothes all over the place and dark circles were underneath her eyes.
“Hi Xixi, Mary. What’s for breakfast?”
“Pan-” “Where’s Nora!”
Silence followed, both adults unable to respond.
They wanted to know too.
“Do you want syrup Sammy?” Xander handed over a plate, ignoring Mary’s question.
It was going to be a long day.
“Mary, we talked about this, Nora went on a trip and won’t be back for a while.”
“But, but she didn’t say goodbye...”
She looked like she was gonna cry, lip trembling and eyes going soft. Xander didn’t know how to handle this.
“Don’t worry, Nora talked to me before she left. You wanna know what she said?” Mary nodded, shaking her already messy hair around. “She said she was going on a secret trip but she would come back with a gift. Can you wait long enough to see her again and get a big hug?”
Mary’s lip hadn’t stopped trembling but she nodded anyway.
Xander thanked the Goddess for Sammy.
She was older than her age and he just blamed it on her childhood. Usually, he would do what he could to protect her, but his own emotions were fried.
Regina hadn’t slept at all. Once Liam said he hadn’t found anything, she went out with a group, chasing down the scent.
And once again, he was left behind.
Xander knew what he was getting into when she said she was a Royal Wolf. She was important, going on missions and saving lives.
But he couldn’t help but feel left out. He knew she didn’t mean it, but for Regina, duty always came first, no matter the sacrifice. And he would just have to deal with it. Again.
