The Lucky Scandal

Rigby

Rigby

Jun 26, 2021

Rigby stretched as he turned off his alarm, his head was still heavy with sleep but he knew he had to get up. He had stayed up into the late hours of the night talking with Alfred. His dad had gotten home around three in the morning and passed out on the couch. Rigby would have helped his dad to his bed but his dad is twice the size of him and he didn’t have the energy to move him. Instead, he just tossed a blanket over him so he wouldn't be cold. Rigby finished getting ready as he sent Alfred a good morning text, which was returned by Alfred complaining about how he's nocturnal and shouldn't get up. Rigby just rolled his eyes and told him to get ready for school already as he walked out of his room.

“What time is it?” His father mumbled as he slowly sat up on the couch trying to block the sun from his eyes.

“It’s like 6:25” Rigby laughed as he closed the curtains for his dad and got him a glass of water.

“Rough night last night?”  “You could say that.” his father sighed happily as he accepted the glass of water.

“Nasty hangover huh?” Rigby chuckled as his father chugged the glass of water.

“Not a hangover Redford, just a touch o’ the Irish flu. I’ll be sound as a pound in a few hours.” His father chuckled as he set the empty glass on the coffee table and leaned against the back of the couch.

“Will you be ok on your own?” Rigby asked as he set some painkillers down on the coffee table for when his dad would need them later.

“Yes, Redford, I'll be fine, i”m an adult and I can handle myself. Thank you for worrying about your old man but you better be going before you're late.” His father said as Rigby slung his bag over his shoulder and put his shoes on.

“Alright alright fine.” Rigby chuckled as he grabbed his house keys and stopped inside the doorway on his way out. “Uh, it would be ok if I had a friend over today right?”

“Absolutely! You can have friends over anytime! I’ll be presentable by then to meet them. Just one question, it wouldn't happen to be Alfred you're having over is it?” His dad asked with a smirk.

“Y-y-yes it is him but he's coming over to work on a project.” Rigby stuttered as he felt his face turn red. His father just smirked and chuckled at him.

“Dad, stop, we're really just working on a project together. It's for Matthew's class.” Rigby said as he rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment. His dad froze and immediately dropped the teasing,  then quickly smiled again.

“I'm sure you are, just teasing you a bit, Redford. Not get out o’ here before your late for school.” his father said as he motioned for him to leave.

“Alright see you later dad.” Rigby said as his father waved him goodbye and he ran out the door.

He knew his dad would be alright without him for the time being, however, he was worried about how he would act in front of Alfred. Even though he knew it was probably a bad idea to have Alfred over to his house there was no changing any plans now he was going to have to deal with it. Besides, his dad never let a hangover get the best of him so he would keep true to his word and be presentable by this afternoon. Rigby smiled as his thoughts shifted to last night. Alfred had told him he had started reading the book, He was excited that he liked it so far. If Alfred wanted others to read when he was finished with that one he had tons of others to share with him. Later he would have to make a list of all the ones he’d like to let Alfred borrow.

“Rigby!” Rigby jumped at the sound of Alfred’s voice calling his name, snapping him out of his thoughts.

“Wanna ride?” Alfred asked as Rigby turned to face the road to see him sitting inside a sleek new red car.

“Uh, uh I-I-I don’t want to be a burden.” Rigby stuttered as Alfred rolled his eyes at him. He had never been offered a ride to school by anyone before, let alone Alfred. Walking home was fine but this was different, this would assure it was just them alone, nobody able to chance upon them and split them apart.

“It’s ok Rigby, I asked you if you wanted a ride, I wouldn't have done that if I thought you would be a burden.” Alfred said as Rigby relaxed a little.

“Besides it's not as if I asked you to ride me, though I wouldn't complain if you did.” Alfred said with a smirk as Rigby felt his face blow up red.

“Uhhhhh I-I-I wouldn’t… I MEAN not that I would want too. NO, WAIT! Not that I DON’T want too!  WAit uh, not that I would…” Rigby sputtered out as Alfred gave him an apologetic smile.

“Rigby it’s ok I’m kidding. Now come on and get in before we're late.” Alfred said, his voice full of laughter as Rigby nodded his head and got into the passenger seat. This was going to be a long day.

“Ready for Matthew’s class?” Alfred asked as they walked down the hallway.

“I just hope we're watching a video or something today.” Rigby sighed, he had so much homework to do from his other classes, he was never going to get too sleep tonight.

“I hope so too, I have an entire math packet to finish tonight.” Alfred sighed as Rigby gave him a confused look.

“You mean the math packet we had two weeks too do?”

“I've been procrastinating, math is hard. Why the hell do I need to know it, when in life am I ever going to need to know how to get x? Besides, I know how to get it. You get a girlfriend and break up with her then you've got ex.”

“Well I’ll help you tonight after we work on the project, I finished mine already.”

“Thank you! Your awesome Rigby!” Alfred said as they walked into Mr. Matthew’s room and sat down.

“Alright kids, today we're going to have a silent workday, emphasis on the silent Patrick or expulsion for you. There are worksheets on your desk for you to complete by the end of class. There will be no homework tonight, just remember to work on your projects.” Mr. Matthews sighed as leaned back in his chair and covered his face with a newspaper.

“Yikes looks like Matthews has a pretty bad hangover,” Alfred whispered as he began his worksheet.

“I said silent work day Mr. Reynolds.” Mr. Matthews said as he shifted in his chair.

This was such a strange coincidence, his father and his teacher both being hungover on the same day. Rigby suddenly remembered his father's reaction when he mentions Mr. Matthews's name. He froze, could they have? No, he was being silly and jumping to conclusions, this was just a weird coincidence. Rigby worked on his paper and made sure not to sink too deep into his thoughts. People get hangovers every day, he started to relax as he assured himself he was just being delusional.

“Fuck” Mr. Matthews groaned as the bell rang and woke him up. Rigby sighed with relief as the bell finally signaled the end of this agonizing period. Rigby walked up to the front of the room and set his paper on Mr. Matthew's desk.

“Hold on Rigby, can you stay behind for a second please.” Mr. Matthews said as he stopped Rigby just before he was able to escape the room.

“Good luck, Rigby. I'll see you after school.” Alfred said as he patted his shoulder and left the room. Rigby didn’t remember doing anything wrong.

“Yes sir?” Rigby asked as the last student left the room and he felt his stomach drop.

“Don’t worry you're not in trouble. I just need you to give this back to your father for me.” Mr. Matthews said as he slid his father's wallet towards him.

“Yeah, sure I bet my dad is wondering what…. Happened… too... It.” Rigby said, picking up his dad's wallet as his mind clicked things together. He was frozen and had no idea how to feel. His dad had gone on a date with his teacher.

“So… so...you were the one,” Rigby mumbled as Mr. Matthews realized the situation.

“Rigby now I need you to understand I didn’t do this for any reason you might be coming up with. I genuinely really do like Korey, I want you to be comfortable with this as well and if you're not I’ll stop seeing him right now.” Mr. Matthews said, trying to explain himself as Rigby stood there in silence.

“If what you say is true then I want you to keep seeing him. I know you're a good guy and my dad deserves to be happy. However if you hurt him in any way, well you have the rest of the year stuck in a classroom with me. We’ll see who breaks first.” Rigby said as he kept his eyes locked onto Mr. Matthew’s.

“Point taken, uh say hi too Korey for me. You can leave.” Mr.Matthews gulped as he handed Rigby a pass for his next class.
Rigby nodded his head and left the room, as soon as he stepped into the hallway he ran to the bathroom and threw up. His heart felt like it was going to explode, he couldn’t believe he had actually done that. Him of all people! The socially awkward kid that can’t even bring himself to order a pizza over the phone. Yet there he was protecting his father and threatening a man that could snap him in half and winning no less. As he threw up one last time he made a mental note not to try his luck like this again. Rigby quickly cleaned himself up and went to his next class, his mind filled with different ways that conversation could have gone.

Alfred and Rigby are two normal 16-year-old boys who attend BroadRiver Academy. one day they unexpectedly meet and their lives are changed forever. follow their adventures and struggle to live in their homaphobic hometown.

Alfred and Rigby are both characters in my main story "The Mafia's Code" this side story is their backstory of how they met and how they came to be in the mafia in the first place!

you don't need to read "The Mafia's Code" to understand this story, it just gives background information on Alfred and Rigby for those who have read the story already otherwise it can be an entirely separate story. :>
