ZELLA’S POV :
I woke up to the sunlight on my face. I just had a dream. A very very bad dream about demon-kidnapper-parents. Whatever, time to get up and go to breakfast.
My heart sank as I turned my head around. I was not in bed, instead, I was on the floor and the missing posters were still scattered around.
So… it was not a dream?
I blinked my eyes repeatedly hoping that the papers vanished. Which of course, did not happen.
Urgh…this sucks.
I got up groaning. My head didn’t hurt anymore but I felt tired as if I had just run a marathon...
My thoughts trailed off as I turned around to see someone sitting on the chair. Was he a burglar? What the heck is going on today? Does everyone feel like they can barge into this house as if they own it or something?
I wasn’t scared. Ever since I was a child, not one thing had scared me except one thing. Wait. What was it? That’s weird… I don’t remember? I could have sworn that I remembered it just a moment back. Nevermind.
I looked at the guy again. And, upon closer inspection is that guy…
Sleeping?
I was at a loss for words for the third time today. What is with these people? What am I supposed to do with this guy? Was he a normal burglar? Or… was he with those mysterious men from before?
I ran to the kitchen and picked up a knife. Better safe than sorry right? I also picked up ropes that were kept in the garage and ran up to my parent’s room.
He’s still asleep thank god.
I tied him up as I had been taught by Dad.No, I mean Dan. Ugh. I don’t even know what to call him anymore. I’ll just stick with Dan.
Was he preparing me for all of this? Did he know something like this would happen? Was that why he taught me how to use ropes and swords? Irine, on the other hand, taught me how to use daggers.
I told myself to forget everything and focus on the task at hand.
I finished tying him up without him waking up. He was a heavy sleeper. And he snored.
So annoying.
“Rise and shine,” I said, pointing my knife straight at his throat.
He woke up and squinted. Then his eyes widened and he almost fell off the chair in shock.
“I have had a very shitty day, so you have ten seconds. Tell me, who the hell are you?” I asked in a low voice.
“Well… good morning to you too.” answered the guy. "This really isn't how it looks."
“Eight seconds,” I said, nonchalantly.
“Woah woah! Calm down.” said the guy, flustered.
“Six seconds. Better hurry up.” I replied in a sing-song voice.
The intruder breathed in.
“I’m Grey, one of the constants from World Zero. I was tasked with bringing you to World Zero. I followed the Thread Of Destiny here and found you, the variable in World Seven. I was really tired because of training before and the chair was so comfortable that I fell asleep. Please forgive me.” he said in a single breath.
Huh? What’s wrong with him? I didn’t understand anything that he said except that his name was Grey. Did he take my words literally? Did he really just do that The worst part was that he seemed proud of himself for replying under six seconds.
What a weirdo.
“A-Are you rapping?” I asked, dumbfounded.
“Oh! Am I that good?” asked Grey, with a smug look on his face.
Did he really just ask a person who is pointing a knife at him while he’s tied up, about his rapping skills? I managed to keep a serious face while crying internally at my situation.
“I didn’t understand what you said. Tell me again. In normal speed so that I can process it.” I replied, ignoring his question.
“I’m Grey, one of the constants from World Zero. I was tasked with bringing you to World Zero. I followed the Thread Of Destiny here and found you, the variable in World Seven.” he said slowly.
I tilted my head in confusion as he kept going. When he finished my head was practically touching my shoulder.
Constants? World Zero? Thread of what? Variable? Huh?
“Are you joking right now? What do you mean by constants, world zero and thread of something-?” I asked, annoyed.
Grey sighed and shrugged his shoulders.
“I have to explain everything, don’t I?” he said faking a tired modest voice.
“Yes, please do,” I replied sarcastically, gritting my teeth and faking a smile. I can’t remember the last time I had been this annoyed.
“This is why I don’t like accompanying variables into-”
“What were you saying?” I asked getting the knife closer to his throat.
“Eek!” he exclaimed, scared.
Then, he cleared his throat and pretended that he had not just screamed in terror.
“Listen closely,” he started “Constants are the people who belong to World Zero. The most magical place out of all the other worlds.”
Other worlds? What? I had many questions but I let Grey continue.
“There are seven worlds in total. Right now we are in World Seven, your world. This is the least magical place of all. The magic power decreases as the world number increases.”
He took a short pause and then continued.
“The people who have a destiny to fulfil in World Zero get connected to the Thread Of Destiny on their sixteenth birthdays. Like the green one you have."
"But why have I not heard about this on the news then? Is this top secret?"
"Normal people who don’t have a destiny to fulfil in World Zero don’t know about the existence of the other worlds. Yes, it is top secret," replied Grey, trying not to laugh.
“I notice that you keep saying destiny to fulfil in World Zero, and not the other worlds. Why only World Zero?” I asked, not able to contain my curiosity any longer.
“Well… technically you will be told about this at the orientation. But since you will come to know soon anyways… it should be fine to tell you.”
Grey’s face suddenly became grim. I couldn’t believe that this was the person who was asking about his rapping skills just a few minutes ago.
“It is because...World Zero has demons.”
