“We’re sorry Izzy,” Holden pleaded, as his siblings nodded along. All six of their matching gray eyes held guilt.
Holden reached his arms out for his sister. Elizabeth sighed with a smile and bent down to give her brother a hug. “You three need to start behaving.”
“But grandmother’s rules are so boring,” Hannah whined.
“Totally agree,” a new voice laughed.
“Josh,” Hannah squealed before jumping into her brother’s arms.
“Hannah!” Elizabeth sucked in a breath, “We greet people with poise.” Hannah pouted at her sister, as Joshua stood up still laughing. “You’re not helping Josh. We all just got yelled at by grandmother, and I’m trying to prevent it from happening again.”
“You got yelled at,” Joshua gasped dramatically, “How could anyone yell at the perfect Elizabeth?”
“You’re hilarious.” Elizabeth glared at her brother.
“You’re a mess.”
“Blame these three.”
“Well, yeah. They wreak havoc wherever they go. Which is why I’m assuming you’re watching them and not that new nanny.”
“She quit,” Henry said, “Which was good because she was annoying.”
“Another one?! I’m guessing grandmother doesn’t know,” Josh breathed, rubbing his hand on his face.
“Of course not! I can fix this. I’ll find a new nanny, and in the meantime, I’ll be their stand-in. Grandmother doesn’t need to know. And neither does Kaleb. You know he’ll tell her.”
“My lips are sealed. These three make it fun around here. I don’t want them shipped off to who-knows-where.”
“Grandmother is going to ship us off,” Holden whimpered.
“No.” Elizabeth glared at Joshua, who smiled apologetically, “No. You guys aren’t going anywhere. Don’t worry.”
“You promise, Izzy?”
“Promise.”
