Beneath their heads stood the tallest tree in the schoolyard. Its roots slowly weakening the cohesion of the stone bleachers they sat on.
Moss deeply engraved all around.
An inseparable pair sat there, happily laughing.
“It’s my turn to ask the question,” Miller said proudly.
“Is it the one about superpowers?”
Olivia had heard that question at least a hundred times already.
“But for real, what is it? The superpower you want to have!” He persisted.
“Flying, you boring hoe!" she giggled. You changed yours already didn't you?”
“I will not comment on that first part."
He paused dramatically.
"This time I would like to read minds.”
His tone was strangely melancholic, unfitting for such an answer.
Olivia ignored the meaning behind his slightly turned eyebrows.
Along with the meaning of his answer.
“Now it’s my turn to ask a question!” she exclaimed.
“Go ahead," he said soflty "It’s the last one, okay?”
That sweetness. That careful tone. That total dedication to her endless blabber. These he had only ever given to her.
Drop by drop of affection. It made her like him even more.
“What if I told you I liked you?”
Olivia fiddled with her necklace as she spoke.
Her love was overflowing, a warm feeling she couldn't contain inside her heart.
From the way he typed her name on his new calculator just for fun, to the way, he treated her so carefully like an expensive vase at times. Even the moments when he told her she was annoying.
Olivia couldn't contain her feelings in simple human words, or even her toughts. They wandered.
What if it all escaped?
Oh god, how hard had she tried to conceal it!
“That would never happen!”
He chuckled, almost choking on the words.
“Right. You know me well, after all.”
She stared down at her feet.
He didn’t know her well at all.
