“You know... we promised to go to prom together. About that… um...”
Miller approached Olivia while she was rummaging through her locker, already late for the class she hated the most.
“Since we were five. How could I not rememb-” she started.
“I like her.”
His voice echoed in the empty hallway, cutting her off.
“I swear, Liv... I didn't forget our promise but... I really want to go with her.”
His eyes weren't focused on her at that moment.
They were lingering somewhere far beyond her reach.
“It’s fine, we are all grown up now. I understand,” she said forcing the words past the tightness in her throat.
It was helpless to say don't go.
She never had that option.
He would go with her.
With Serina.
Her answer didn't matter.
He left.
Breaking that vase, he had cared for. He mishandled it, and in a blink it was out of his grasp.
She choose to believe his happiness was worth it. Smiling as if it were true.
She said goodbye to the moment, folding neatly her sadness, for later.
Her grades were the only thing she had left.
And even there…
She would never be Serina.
