The Leader
Name: Valentine Hawthorne. Has gone by many names over the centuries, but he’s
kept this one for abt 150 years. Nickname: Val
Age: Unclear. The human brain isn’t made to live for so long, so a lot of his
memories are foggy, condensed, or completely gone. His guess is somewhere
around 600-700 years- some of his earliest recollection being during the roman
empire. Physically, he appears to be in his late twenties to early thirties.
Gender: Cis male. Uses he/him pronouns.
Hair: Deep brown. Typically kept short on the sides and curly on top.
Eyes: A sign of age for vampires is their eyes. New born’s eyes are a bright
red, which eventually fades with time. Eventually their eyes turn amber.
Valentine’s eyes are amber.
Fangs: Average sized. Fangs are retractable. He’s very good at controlling
them.
Typical fashion: His nestmates make fun of him for preferring sweaters and
slacks. They often call him gramps. When he dresses up, it’s often in a very
nice, very expensive dress and jewels.
Height: Just under six feet.
Body structure: Tall, willowy build. Don’t let that fool you, though, he’s the
leader for the reason.
Piercings: Had a phase where he was very interested in them, but all that
remains are his ear lobes.
Tattoos: N/A. tattoo ink doesn’t take to vamp skin.
Feeding: As vampires age, the time between feeding expands. At this point in
his immortality, he only needs to feed every other week, though the number
shrinks when taking care of a newborn. Generally, he prefers blood bags, or
feeding from his nestmates. He hasn’t fed from a human in a long, long time.
All vampires can eat non-blood food, though for newborns it often gives them an
upset tummy, and holds no nutritional value.
Vampiric weakness: New born vampires are actually sensitive to sunlight, and it
can be deadly for them. Resistance, like lots of things, comes with age.
Besides that, vampires don’t have many weaknesses. They can be killed, though,
what is fatal for a human is just mildly concerning for a vamp.
Vampiric Strengths: Vampires do have an above average strength and speed, but
often vampires have abilities. Sometimes this pertains to their nature as humans.
Powers and abilities grow with age. Valentine has a natural affinity for
telekinesis as well as defensive magic. His nest is known to be one of the most
guarded places on the continent, just from his magic alone.
Opinion on other Vampires: He’s seen as something like nobility in the vampire
world, and does have a spot on the vampire council, though he is not nearly as
involved as some others. Mostly, he doesn’t care for other vampires, besides
his nestmates.
Opinion of humans: Doesn’t think or interact much with humans. He’s never mean
or rude to them, but their lifespans are short and he doesn’t get attached to
them.
Sexuality: Doesn’t mean much to vamps. If asked, he might categorize himself as
gay.
Backstory: He’s lived many different lives. Any sort of hobby you can think of
he’s dabbled in, any type of work he’s at least tried out. There’s just… too
much to get into. Literally. He loves his nest to bits, and takes care of it
with a firm hand.
Religious views: Non-religious, but has dabbled/practiced most major religions
at some point or other.
Occupation: Has multiple degrees and is fluent in many languages. He’s a
scholar at heart. He keeps busy with the council and his nestmates endeavors
now, but ultimately yeah, he’s a scholar.
Second
Name: Nash Hawthorne
Age: Confirmed was born in 1577, though the actual date is unknown (to lack of
records). He was turned at the age of 26, and still appears to be that age. Around
450-ish
Gender: Cis male. He/him pronouns
Hair: Black that falls to his jaw. Generally kept in a little bun to keep it
out of his eyes.
Eyes: Also amber.
Fangs: biggest of the bunch.
Typical fashion: Prefers very traditionally masculine clothing, and is often
seen in a simple t-shirt, jeans, and a leather jacket. When he dresses up, he’s
fond of sleek, completely black suits.
Height: Prob around 6’3”
Body structure: Easily the biggest in the nest. He’s tall, with built muscles
and defined structure. Definitely acts as the “guard dog” When needed.
Piercings: Also has ears pierced, as well as nose.
Feeding: He needs to feed only a little more frequently than Valentine, though
it does change when having a fledgling. Also feeds from blood bags or his
nestmates. Doesn’t touch humans and hasn’t in a while.
Vampiric weakness: same as Valentine.
Vampire strengths: While Valentine’s is more defensive magic, his is offensive. Innate ability to perceive threats and deal with them accordingly
Opinion on other Vampires: Nash loves being a vampire. He doesn’t love other vampires
though. Because of Valentine’s influence socially, he feels like a lot of his
kind are crass and needlessly violent. Doesn’t often interact with beings
outside of his nestmates.
Opinions on humans: Loves humans. He thinks they’re funny.
Sexuality: Irrelevant to vampires. Would identify as Pan.
Backstory: Was born in England in 1577. Grew up poor and began working at a
young age. In 1603, an epidemic riddled the nation, and he caught the plague.
Nearly died but was turned by a vampire instead. His sire ended up being very
powerful, and very abusive. Nash ended up becoming feral and running from his
sire. During one of his blood frenzy stents, Valentine found him, and nurtured
his mind and body back to health. Later Nash killed his original sire, and now
considers Valentine to be his. He’s been with Valentine the longest and is
fiercely protective of him and their other nestmates.
Religious beliefs: non-religious.
Occupation: Keeps a human job at an office for fun (he likes the drama).
Third
Name: Callum Hawthorne. Callum was the name they was given. Sometimes their nestmates will call them Callie.
Age: Born in the 1850s and turned at the age of 25. Still physically looks that
way. Around 165-ish
Gender: nonbinary, but generally goes by he/him, though they/them works too.
Hair: Longer, blond.
Eye color: dull sort of red.
Fangs: Smallest of the bunch.
Typical fashion: Definitely prefers much softer clothing. They like soft, silky
fabrics. Flowy pieces. When they dress up its either in silky dresses or
angular suits.
Height: 5’6”
Body structure: skinny frame, angular sort of features.
Feeding: They need to feed more frequently than their older nestmates, and both
Valentine and Nash prefer that they feed from them. Very rarely do they feed
from blood bags.
Vampiric weakness: They can stand some time in the sun, though they do become
fatigued quite quickly.
Vampiric strength: Their powers are mostly centered in glamor, in making people
see things that aren’t there. Often glamours the nest from the human eye. This, along with Valentine's protective wards, make it nearly impossible to find without help from the occupants of the nest.
Opinion of vamps: They like other vampires, and actually own a café that caters
to humans and vampires.
Opinion of humans: They like humans just as much.
Backstory: Fortunately, Callum had the luxury of choosing to become a vampire.
Their home nest was nurturing and their vampire adolescence was pleasant. It
was when they were attacked by a neighboring wolf pack that things went
downhill. Their entire nest was murdered, and they only survived because their
ability kept them hidden. They met Valentine when he’d been called to investigate
the scene by the Council. Nash came along as well, and it was his idea to take
them under their wing. They’ve been with them ever since.
Religious Beliefs: Was religious in their human life, isn’t anymore.
Occupation: Owns a human/vampire café. Although vampires can and do consume
human food, it holds no nutritional value, and Callum likes to combine blood
and traditional human food to make things that are even more enjoyable for vampires
to eat. This mostly means typical café drinks and pastries, but eventually he’d
like to venture out into restaurant food as well.
Fourth
Name: August Hawthorne. Give name. Like the others in the nest, he chose to
take Valentine’s last name.
Age: Has only been a vampire for about three years. He was turned by an unknown
sire at the age of twenty-one, making him much, much younger than his
nestmates. 24 years old
Gender: Male. He/him pronouns
Hair: Red and definitely wild
Eye color: Also red
Fangs: Dull and tiny, because he’s still considered a newborn
Typical fashion: Dresses the most modern out of his nest. Definitely prefers
streetwear and when he’s not in baggy pants and expensive tennis shoes,
Valentine dresses him (Bc he’s an actual child). He looks good in the suits the
older vamp puts him in.
Height: 5’9”
Body structure: Definitely has a dancer’s body. Lean physique.
Feeding: He’s a baby in vampire terms. His fangs are dull and his control is
about on par for someone of his age. He’s never had human blood before, having
only fed on the blood of his nestmates. He’s slowly learning how to use his
fangs, though they’re still too dull to effectively pierce vampire skin.
Vampiric weakness: Very sensitive to sunlight and human food (esp anything with
garlic) will give him a tummy ache.
Vampiric strength: stronger than the typical human, but couldn’t over power his
nestmates if he tried. His power is empathy, and he is greatly affected by
those around him. He can also judge people’s souls through touch. This is often
more draining for him than helpful.
Opinion of vamps: Loves his nestmates, but weary of other vampires. He hasn’t
had much interaction with them, and often they treat him as though he’s a
child.
Opinion of humans: Most of the time he still feels like a human. Has no issues
with them (except for wanting to drink their blood obvi)
Backstory: August grew up in the system. His father died when he was seven and his
mother (who was an addict) gave up parental rights on him. From then on he was
in and out of foster homes until eventually he aged out. He went to community
college for a time, but eventually dropped out. He got a job at a grocery
store, and when he wasn’t there, he was doing street performances. It was after
one of his dances late at night that he was attacked by a rogue vampire, and
subsequently turned. Val found him there, confused and unknowing of why he was
so thirsty. The older vampire fed him, and boom, suddenly he was part of
a nest. Learning what had happened to him was difficult and accepting the fact
that he’s no longer human is something he’s still struggling with. Now though,
he’s spending his time being doted on by his nestmates, and slowly trying to
reintegrate back into society.
Occupation: Unemployed. Plans on going back to school once he’s comfortable
enough in society.
Fifth
Name: Knox Jameson
Age: 21. Human
Gender: Cis Male. He/him pronouns
Hair: Brown. Dyed pink at the tips
Eyes: blue
Typical fashion: Mans is a college student. He almost exclusively exists in
comfortable shorts and a t-shirt.
Height: 5’7”
General info: Knox is a college student. He’s a business major, though he
doesn’t actually have any interest in it. He really would love to work with
computers, but his parents are insistent upon him getting a “practical” degree.
He’s human, but his parents aren’t. His mom is half faerie, and his father is a
siren. It’s extremely uncommon for a child of two magical beings ending up a
human, but it happens. The recessive human genes on his mother’s side just
ended up showing, and his magical DNA remains dormant. So, naturally he’s aware
of the magical world (unlike most humans) and he knows the signs when meeting
supernatural creatures.
His parents had never been particularly fond of him, and he’s too stubborn to
ask for extra financial assistance from them. He’s struggling, juggling school,
work, and his bills, but really he’s doing okay. Right?
