The Final Scout

The Final Scout

Jul 04, 2021

It's mine! You peasants don't deserve to obtain a beast orb. It is my right as nobility."
Klaus was overwhelmed by his greed. He slowly walked towards the orb while Althea fell on her knees.

"I, Klaus, of the Cornwell family, will finally obtain a beast orb."
As soon as Klaus picked up the orb, his hand began to rot. Its power was so strong that it resisted Klaus from being its owner.
"Ahh! What is happening to my hand?" Klaus cried.

He freaked out and ran out of the cave. Reyes then quickly started to heal Althea.
"I'm going to be fine. I wasn't stabbed anywhere fatal." Althea said. Reyes used the mana stone and started healing the wound. After he finished, Althea was able to walk on her own.

"How long have we been here?" Althea asked.
"Probably 3 hours." Mack replied.
"Let's leave. There have been enough casualties already." Althea said, feeling down.

They buried Kent nearby and made him a proper grave. Since they had already suffered so much, they used the transporter stone and left. After coming back, they disbanded their squad. Althea and Mack went their separate ways. Reyes and June took the transporter stone and went back to their village, where Reyes buried it in the forest.

"So that's why you quit." Eden said.
"Yea, we just couldn't bring ourselves to scout another sanctuary without Kent." June said.
"After we came back, I buried the transporter stone so we could forget what had happened. It does seem broken now, so I don't think it would work." Reyes explained.

Eden then curiously asked how a sanctuary looked like from the inside.
"Sanctuaries are beautiful on the inside, rivers, trees, bushes, and even fruits that you can eat. Although living in one would be quite hard as the beasts keep regenerating." Reyes said, fantasizing.

"Alright, time for bed now. You have training tomorrow." June nagged at him.

"Don't I always?" Eden muttered.
"What was that?" June asked angrily.
Eden panicked and ran to his room. He lay on his bed thinking about what had happened. Slowly he became drowsy and fell asleep.

The next day Eden woke up to a cold chill. He opened his eyes and saw himself outside the house. He was confused as to how he came there.
"Oh, you're finally awake? I tried to wake you up, but you just wouldn't open your eyes, so I just yanked you out of bed and brought you outside." Reyes said with a grin on his face.

"What!? That seems like a very irresponsible thing to do as a father!" Eden snapped at him and tried to wriggle his way out.
"No, it isn't. Plus, you should have seen how cute your face was as I was walking down the stairs." Reyes chuckled.
"AH! Dad stop. I'm twelve already."

They then started with their usual training. Which included basics like controlling one's mana and focusing it on a single point. Then went on to spells. After training, they went in, had a bath, and sat down for breakfast.

"What's wrong, Eden? You seem to be thinking about something." Reyes noticed Eden was deep in thought.
"I have a lot of questions." Eden said.
"Ask away, my boy." Reyes responded, sounding confident.

"How do sanctuaries work? Like, how do you enter one?" Eden asked.

"After a sanctuary starts producing tremendous amounts of aura, it can no longer contain it. Therefore a crystal called a 'Transporter Stone' is formed in dens. This crystal will release all the aura outside into the atmosphere. The residents near that area will report the den to the Slayer association. Then the association will commission a squad of slayers who will go and scout the sanctuary." Reyes explained.

"Slayers have to teleport into the sanctuary from the same den in which the teleporter stone was formed. This will ensure that they get teleported to a safer location within the sanctuary with fewer beasts. Teleporter stones work outside of dens too, but this would teleport you right in the middle of the sanctuary. So, the chances of getting ambushed are higher." June added.

Eden nodded his head, even though he still had many questions for which he needed answers.
