Chapter Five: Emilia
Emilia looked from person to person. She didn’t really understand what was going on, but people were arguing. She ran after Blue to the boiler room and sat next to him. He’d been crying.
Blue is a good person. Right? He was our friend, so he’s good. She took a deep breath. “Hey, you know how Java bread tastes disgusting and so does Milan cake, and yet everyone debates which one’s better?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, I don’t think that one is better than the other. But, I know that when you squeeze lime into Java bread it becomes better. And if you add frosting to Milan cake, it becomes almost as good as honey cake.” Emilia gave him an encouraging smile.
Blue looked at her, a bit confused. “Is this a metaphor?”
“I guess. I dunno, Natsuki always says that I talk through food. Or fashion. I dunno, it just makes sense to me that way.”
Blue laughed. “Well, I have no bloody idea what you’re talking about.”
Emilia sighed. “I guess a lot of people don’t.” She leaned back onto the metal wall.
Blue smiled. “Thanks though, I think.”
Emilia smiled, and they both sat there for a minute before Emilia stood up. “This place is an oven, we should go back to the compartment.”
He frowned. “You go ahead, I don’t regret what I said so I guess they’ll never accept me.”
Emilia nodded. She didn’t understand what had happened. But sometimes people just didn’t agree. Sometimes that meant that they all went in separate directions. “That’s a good point.” She then walked away. She turned around to see Blue in the same position. “Bye.”
“Bye.”
She left the boiler room and headed to the compartment. In her compartment she leaned against Natsuki, who had in her tight double dutch braids that Emila had done. She and Brie were creating flashcards. “We’re in operation ‘Make Blue a Better Person.” Natsuki told her.
Gale grinned. “I dunno, he might be beyond our quad’s saving.” He struck a pose, “I’m Malfoy, Draco Malfoy.”
Brie looked over at him inquisitively, “so you're one of us now?”
“Can I be?”
Natsuki crossed her arms and grinned. “Mia’s got a whole routine to get someone part of the group.”
Emilia grabbed the chocolate statue. “Kneel.”
Gale laughed before kneeling. “I dub you as part of the group.”
He bopped his head. “So, it’s official then. Anyway, saving Draculous Malevoulousious.”
Emilia hugged Natsuki’s arm. “I don’t think that he’s ever going to say he’s changed his stance. We can’t change a person that doesn’t want to be changed.” That’s what he said, right?
Natsuki smiled at her. “You’re right.” She put an arm around Emilia. “Sometimes I forget how deep you are.”
Brie sighed. “But it’s so annoying! Don’t you want to do a makeover on him, Emilia?”
“Yes! His hair looked way too oily, and yet there was frizz on the sides? It was hideous!” She lowered her head, “but, that doesn’t matter.”
Gale reclined in his chair and took another bite out of his pumpkin pastry, “it would’ve been nice having him in the group. He was a good partner in crime.”
