Nara tried to wipe away her tears, but it was no use. She got up, went out of the tent, and fled into the forest. Rain pelted down on her, mixing with the tears on her face. She ran blindly, hoping that Gaijan hadn't gone this way. She had to leave him behind. The only thing that had made any sense in her crazy world she had woken up to.
Gaijan.
It seemed like she ran for hours. Her clothes were soaked through, and the tears had finally stopped. The rain had let up, and it was just sprinkling now. As she walked she looked down at her feet, being careful not to trip on anything or slip on the wet ground. She didn't care where she was going. She didn't really care about anything anymore.
Finally, just as the first glow of morning appeared, she stopped. At her feet lay a rectangular stone, wet from the rain. It had scorch marks on it. She looked around her, and saw that she had come back to the village. It was a sad sight. The burnt buildings looked even more gloomy in the rain. Could she not escape what she had done, not even in her subconscious mind? She knew she hadn't come this way on purpose. But then, maybe this was where she belonged. Among her murdered friends and family. And she knew it deep down.
"Wrong!" A voice shouted. Nara spun around, peering through the gloom to find whoever it was that had spoken. From behind a tree stepped a figure out into the open. "I brought you here." Nara squinted at the figure's face, trying to see- and stumbled back in disbelief.
No, it can't be!
"I assure you, it can!" said the figure, a boy... a boy she hadn't seen since that fateful day when her power had broken loose.
"...Daro?" Nara stared at him, wondering how this could be real. Daro, the boy from her village that had tormented her for so long, that the magical fire had consumed along with everyone else... or so she thought.
"Oh, no, I was destroyed in that fire. Well, my old body was." Daro was grinning at her mischievously, one hand behind his back, the other gesturing as he spoke. "I guess I should have thought about that before I wheedled you enough to make you lose control." He was walking towards her slowly. "That body was destroyed, and by the time I got another one you'd been subdued in that crystal. That stupid little boy had ruined all of my plans. But, now I can move forward again."
"But, why? Why did you want me to lose control? And how did you survive?"
"Uh-uh, I can't reveal all my secrets!" He was about a yard away from her now. "Well, I guess I can tell you something. All that power you have? It's actually mine."
"Yours?"
"Yes. I sowed it into your body when you were just a babe. You see, I, being what I am, can't use that magic in this world. I have no power here. But you, being human, can use it. I didn't count on you not wanting to use it, so I had to come here anyway and make you."
"But why?"
"Why? Because this world is too... peaceful. Chaos must find an outlet, or it would destroy itself, and we can't have that. You can't even have peace without chaos." Daro's face was just inches away from her own.
Nara couldn't move. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. So. She was just a tool for chaos. Why. Why her? Why not choose someone else to be this tool?
"Because, Nara," Daro said, that wicked grin sneering at her. "You are weak." Daro brought out his hand that was behind his back, which held a long dagger. "Peace has had its time with this world. Now, chaos will reign." Daro lifted the dagger, pointing it at her throat, at the talisman that kept the evil magic in check. Nara stared in horror, but she could not move. Maybe she didn't want to move. If this was her purpose, the reason she was even here, then why would she want to stop it... This world held nothing for her now...
"Nara!"
