Finley groans, slapping Cailin's arm, but giving the stage his attention. All the ten council members come up onto the platform. In all their lives, Finley and Cailin have never seen all the council members before. They have only seen Amelia, Ash and Ender. Amelia only tends to show up in the gardens, or when a new baby has arrived to pass it off to the next nanny. Ash, on the other hand, seems to walk along the halls whenever he pleases. Ender only shows up for new school years to welcome students. Finley can remember the time he first met Ender. He was the only council member that greeted his family when the boys were first starting kindergarten.
The boys at this moment were five, Sarah three. Christine and Penelope had signed both of their kids for kindergarten, and a Universe Dragon came to them at the kindergarten center to congratulate them.
Cailin clapped his hands excitedly as the Universe Dragon jumped around, shaking the floor beneath him. The rest of the toddlers that have lined up with their nannies in front of the classroom, all started to laugh. The silly male dragon did tricks for them, puffing fire from his nose. This was to make sure all the toddlers were relaxed, and in a good mood for the kindergarten teachers that were signing them all in.
A council member, one that Christine recognized as Ender, stood next to the kindergarten teacher. He was smiling down at all the kids, waving at them, and welcoming them reassuringly. "Christine and Penelope, how nice it is to finally be able to see you," Ender began as they got closer to the classroom. Ender walked over to the two nannies, kissing each of the backs of their hands.
"Hi!" Cailin yelled. He waved up at the tall man, wanting all attention on him.
The blue-eyed council member looked down at the three kids, Sarah taking the time to wave up at him too. Finley hid behind Cailin's back as Ender grinned at them. He kneeled, smiling at Cailin who stared at him in awe. Ender's Universe Dragon hopped over when he noticed his master distracted. He flopped down next to him, puffing smoke from his nose, curious. Even at this young of age, the boys noticed that the only creatures that roam freely in the halls are Universe Dragons. Universe Dragons in particular have been trained by the ten school council members. The council members are the most skilled, and most talented of dragon masters. Ten of them, and ten Universe Dragons.
Cailin screeched in excitement. His arms reached for the creature, but Ender took him by the underarms and set him back in line with another smile. "Now Cailin, you know you aren't supposed to come to the dragons, they come to you."
Cailin hesitated. Finley grabbed onto his arm, big eyes staring at the creature as Cailin giggled. He held a hand out silently, watching as the dragon creeped over on all fours. He scooted little by little as he pushed his nose against Cailin's hand. For some reason, this relaxed the other two kids. Finley and Sarah immediately began laughing as they came closer, realizing it was safe.
Ender stood, eyes shining as he looked up at Penelope and Christine, who both were watching with confident eyes. "I must say, nannies…." Ender glanced down at Cailin and Finley, his smile lightening. "Your children have been the talk of the castle. The dragons love them."
Penelope clapped her hands. She picked up Finley as he wrapped his little arms around her neck. "Wonderful news! Any idea why?"
Ender shrugged with a shake of his head. "No idea. The Universe Dragons know much more than we do. Possibly only the headmaster knows as to why your children seem to draw dragons in." His smile faded all the way as he looked down towards Cailin. The little boy seemed to be now trying his best to introduce his little sister to the big creature, whose tail shook in happiness. The dragon’s big doe eyes glanced from toddler to toddler, happy to be involved.
"Their parents seem to not want to be found…." Ender whispered, turning his attention back to the women while Christine frowned.
"Do they live in Gillian?"
"Well, that's uncertain. Maybe. But it’s worrying us on where these children have come from. It could lead to some answers. It’s rare for siblings to appear at the school, especially two years apart. But Cailin and Finley appeared together." Ender’s dark skin paled as he swallowed. “We should figure it out as quickly as possible. The siblings appeared two years apart, while Finley and Cailin appeared together? This usually means it was planned, and that something is going on.”
Christine and Penelope glanced at each other with uncertain looks, Finley beginning to whimper with a frown on his face. He began to fuss, shaking his legs as Ender glanced at him with a weird look. "Well, that's strange…." He mumbled. Before Penelope could ask why, Cailin heard Finley's tiny cries and came to aid immediately, Universe Dragon forgotten.
"Fin! Don't cry!" Cailin raised his hands. Ender and the dragon watched with shocked looks as Penelope set her son down. Finley ran into Cailin's arms as they wrapped each other in a hug. The baby blonde immediately began to giggle as Cailin grinned. "See? It's not so bad!"
Ender blinked, turning back to the nannies. "How long have they been this close?" He asked as little Sarah wobbled over too. Cailin let her in the hug as they all giggled at each other.
"Ever since they've been able to open their eyes. They get along perfectly. Sometimes, they are the only ones that can calm each other down," Christine answered. Ender shared a glance with his Universe Dragon, the creature splitting his razor-sharp teeth into a smile.
The council member glanced back over to the nannies with a nod. "Keep an eye on them. I want yearly updates."
Penelope's frown deepened and she tilted her head. "For Cailin and Finley? Why? If you don’t mind my saying so sir, you don’t have anyone else doing that. Are they in trouble?"
Ender smiled. "No, on the contrary, Ms. Daniels. I’m afraid I can't say why I want to know what's going on with their lives, but it's very important that I do. And don't tell them you’re doing so."
Christine did not like where this was going. "Ender, I’m afraid I’m not in favor of this. I want to have a trusting relationship with my son."
Ender's smile faded a little as he nodded once. "I completely understand Ms. Littlemen, but I’m afraid that it's an order." Christine held her tongue. She nodded once as Ender whistled, his dragon hopping to his feet and startling Sarah. "We'll take our leave then; I have a meeting in ten minutes. Take care nannies."
Christine and Penelope gave a respectful nod before watching as the council member and his Universe Dragon took their leave.
The other seven council members are seen rarely, and this is one of those rare times. From the descriptions their nannies have told them, they know who is who. From left to right begins with Ash, to Ender, to Amelia, to Dahlia, to Kaiden, to Rayden, to Dean, to Lillith, to Clea and finally to Violet. They all stand in a straight line, smiles on their faces with three Universe Dragons sitting behind them at full size.
The entire theater goes quiet once they make their appearance, more and more scholars beginning to be aware that orientation is starting. Murmurs quiet down to nothing, and the ten council members all wait in the silence for a moment.
Ash then steps forward to be the first to begin, smiling. "Hello and good afternoon, students," he begins, his voice reaching the very back of the large theater.
"Good afternoon, council member Ash," everyone responds, and the man grins.
"I hope you all are excited to get the rest of this day started, because the dragons definitely are."
Students clap around the theater, shouts, and screams of excitement being thrown around the room. Ender steps forward with a big smile on his face. "This is definitely a big step for each and every one of you. You all have excelled in your studies and have all been given a green light from the female Universe Dragons." At this, the cheers are louder. Students get so excited, the scholars next to Cailin and Finley jump out of their seats to hug each other. With all the happy emotions, the blonde cannot help but smile along with them.
Amelia steps forward, green eyes glowing with raw power. "Today is the day your lives change. Today we expect a lot out of all of you. We trust you will be responsible, courageous, and professional when the gala begins tonight." Amelia turns towards Dahlia who steps forward with a nod of her head.
Dahlia is a beautiful council member but looks older than everybody else. This is because her hair is gray, but full in straight locks down to her elbows. Her gray eyes hold wisdom, and though she is older, she still does not look a day over thirty. Her skin is pale, like porcelain, and she walks as though she is treading on air. "The gala tonight is made for you all specifically, but there are rules you all must follow. Galas can be just dangerous as they are fun and loving. People from Gillian are invited, and you must not let them upset you. They're known to be cunning, and many suspicious things can happen tonight."
Next up is Kaiden, a council member who screams winter. Some even say if you get close enough, you will feel the winds of the north, cold and not at all welcoming. Kaiden is a council member who has stark white hair in straight locks down to his shoulders. His blue eyes are almost as electric as Cailin’s but are cloudy, instead of bright. His skin is pale, so pale it does not look healthy, but gives a warm smile to the crowd. "Most of you might see your parents."
A hush falls along the crowd, and the Universe Dragons shuffle uncomfortably up on stage. Kaiden does not let the silence faze him as his smile disappears. "But you all must remember; your parents have either given you to us or have left you to die on the streets." Finley and Cailin glance at each other uneasily. "In saying that, you're not theirs anymore." A murmur runs through the crowd. "You all are ours now. You're all our children, and nobody else’s.”
The council members all nod their heads in agreement. Finley tenses, and Cailin shifts next to him uncomfortably. "In saying this, you are not allowed to leave the school grounds. Some of your parents are not to be trusted, but some have given you all to us out of the kindness of their hearts. You may speak to them, but do not leave with them."
Kaiden then turns to Rayden, who steps forward with a smile. Rayden is a small and petite council member. He has black hair cut short so it curls over his ears, with brown eyes that show warmth. Some people say when you are near him, he gives off a vibe that you would often get around your mother. It is a weird rumor, but some people have seen him walking around the care center, where most newborns are kept that are sick, and may not make it.
He clears his throat. "This is all for safety precautions, and I know you all understand. But on a higher note, we all will descend to the basement in a neat and orderly fashion. You will not speak, for it will make the female Universe Dragons restless. I know you all will respect their wishes. This may take a while, and this will be the longest part of today, but by the end of the day, you will have your dragon eggs."
Cheers go around the theater yet again. Finley grins excitedly over to Cailin who smiles back, before they turn their attention back to the stage where council member Dean steps up next. Dean is a tall council member, who is strong and stoic. He is one of the most muscled of the council members, and Finley has to stop himself from drooling.
Dean is tall and muscular, with golden hair that falls across his forehead in waves. His tanned skin glows under the stage lights, his golden eyes making him seem very commanding. "You will all go down to the basement in an orderly fashion, starting from the top rows, down to the bottom. Do not get up until your row is called. Once you get your dragon egg, you will take it to your dorms where you will look after it every day after your studies. Eggs do not need much time or attention to look after. All they need is warmth, but I’m sure you all will take care of them just fine."
Lillith then walks up stage. She is a council member that has dark bronze skin that glows just as much as Dean's under the stage lights. She has wavy brown hair that flows to the middle of her back, with brown eyes that are just as commanding as Dean’s. Lillith is a council member that most people see taking walks in the gardens, or even riding the horses late at night. "It will take a year for these eggs to hatch, and I know you all think that's a lot of time. But time will go by fast if you let it. Be patient and focus on your studies, and training sessions. You will need it when your eggs hatch. You will have check ups once every month, where a council member will check on the dragon's health inside the egg. Things should go smoothly from there."
She turns to council member Clea, who steps up next. As leader of the council, she is very soft-spoken. Nobody really sees her at all, and people say she likes to remain invisible. She has golden hair that glows under the lights that reaches her waist. Her golden skin seems to glitter under the stage's shine, with her eyes glowing different colors depending on where you look at her.
She does not smile when she talks, and never really has any emotion on her face as she glances around the theater. "Once your eggs have hatched, then comes the next stage in your life. As you all must know from your studies, the dragons will be wild when they hatch. They are not tamed. It is your job to tame your own dragon yourself. It will be an awfully hard task, but I have faith that all of you will succeed in it."
She turns to the final council member, Violet, who steps forward. Her hair is dyed blue, but her roots are dark with her natural hair color. Violet has dark blue eyes, curly hair that falls across her shoulders and freckles that dance across her nose. She is also a small council member, but the heels she wears make her much taller than she really is.
She smiles around the theater. "Training with your dragon will be very tough work. Your limits will be tested, and your strengths and weaknesses will be exploited. But we all cannot wait to see you grow. Now, begin phase two. Will the top row please begin to make their way down to the basement in a straight line, and remember, no talking."
