“How’d you work out where we are?” Jason asked, frowning at his sister.
“Easy, I recognised the magic system.” She said, rolling her eyes at his tone. He was always of the opinion that she was all brawn and no brains.
“Magic?” Brandan repeated. He hadn’t noticed anything that strange.
“Yup. We’re in a real magic world.”
“How is a book from this place going to help us?” Galen asked.
“Simple, it’s about where we came from.” Bree answered. “I recognised the name on the cover.”
“Breeda of Faylinn.” Kieran read out. “Wasn’t that…”
“Yes.”
“You mean your favourite book series? How does that match up?”
“Breeda of Faylinn was known as the strongest of the faeries – a race similar to the folklore ones. She was so strong that she took a new form, like that of a human, in order to face foes more to her standard but was still unmatched.” Karla explained. “But even disguised among a group of adventurers, she still had her faery powers. The one she most used was called ‘True Guide’.”
“So, it’s about you then.”
“At least before I left my homeland – I skimmed the book. But that isn’t all, it’s only the first of a set. There’s one for each of us. I didn’t realise we were hiding that many things from each other.”
They all sheepishly looked away from each other. All of them had left their pasts behind for a reason before becoming adventurers.
“That’s not what’s important though.” Karla said after explaining as much as she could about the characters she knew they had taken the place of. “The author was going to write a story about the gods of the world. She put an excerpt of from it in ‘Journey from the Crypt’.”
He twitched in anticipation on his golden throne. The mere thought of the chaos his actions would bring about caused him to salivate. No one was prepared for this. Not the heroes. Not the children. Not even the other gods.
No one would ever meddle in his mischief again; this act would make him to most feared of all the gods. His name would become legend
“Vuna si vay. Vuna si vay. Vuna oo raylah.” He sang. Any minute now, his work would be complete.
There they were. Ten bodies lying on the floor before him. He would cackle but it would only wake them. Time to ruin some lives.
