Benjamin is now at the police station, waiting to be questioned. He is shocked to learn about what happened to Scarlet but at the same time devastated that he is a suspect. Scarlet was Benjamin's high school sweetheart and they were married for 8 years. About 10 months ago she left him for another man named Gregory Morgan. Benjamin was a professional fencer who had won a few Olympic medals. Gregory was on the same fencing team and though he couldn't beat Benjamin in a match, he won the heart of his wife. Scarlet left Benjamin feeling betrayed and broken. He soon took to drinking to numb the pain. A few weeks ago Benjamin saw the two of them together and verbally assaulted them. The police got involved and though no charges were filed, he was heard saying 'I will kill you, Gregory! You better watch your back because I will kill both of you!!"
These were the words the police must have heard and connected Benjamin to the crime. The fact that he smiled when he heard about Gregory did not help the situation. But knowing that the one who caused him so much pain was beaten horrible was oddly satisfying for him.
"Mr. MacLerie." An officer says as he walks into the room. "I’m detective Oscar Smith; this is my assistant Dean. We would like to ask you a few questions."
"Sure." Benjamin says as he sits up straight.
"Where were you last night?" Oscar asks.
"I was out." Benjamin replies.
"That's alright but where exactly were you?" Oscar asks. Benjamin thinks back, he was drinking at his house and then drove out. This was all he remembered.
"I was drinking at home and then decided to go for a drive."
"We saw that." Dean says. "We reviewed the security footage in your building. You left at 9:30 last night."
"And returned this morning." Oscar says as he peers into Benjamin's face. "Where did you go?"
"I went out for a drive."
"Where?" Benjamin was not sure about what happened last night and hence couldn't answer this questions properly. "Mr. MacLerie, where were you last night?" Oscar asks sounding stern. Trying to think back he suddenly remembers Ann.
"I was with someone." Benjamin says suddenly.
"Who?" Dean asks.
"This girl…." Benjamin says.
"I see. And does 'this girl' have a name?" Oscar replies sarcastically.
"Yes." Benjamin says taking out the card and handing it to Dean. "Call the number on the back. That's my alibi, I was with her all night." Benjamin says as Oscar looks at Dean who steps outside to make a call.
"You better not be lying to us Mr. MacLerie." Oscar says firmly.
"I am not." Benjamin replies strongly staring at the strong, slightly intimidating officer.
"I made the call, she will be here soon." Dean says as he enters the room and returns the card to Benjamin. Oscar looks at Benjamin as he goes out of the room to wait for this mysterious woman. Benjamin is made to wait outside as well. After about half an hour Oscar comes and sits next to Benjamin.
"Thirty minutes and still no sign of this woman of yours…" Oscar mocks.
"She will get here." Benjamin replies confidently. And just then the door opens and in walks Annalise.
"Ann." Both Oscar and Benjamin called out at the same time. The two of them look at each other confused as a strange tension begins to build.
"Hi." Ann says as she approaches the two men.
"What are you doing here?" Oscar asks calmly.
"I got a call about Benjamin." She replies as Oscar realizes the situation.
"Yes…" Oscar replies and is soon joined by Dean.
"Hi, Ms. Smith we have a few questions to ask you." Dean says and is interrupted by Oscar.
"We know Dean…" Oscar says uncomfortably.
"So you are Dean!" Ann replies. "I am Ann, Oscar's…"
"Little sister." Dean interrupts as he shakes her hand. "It's so nice to finally meet you. Oscar has told me so much about you…" Benjamin takes a good look and notices the resemblance.
"Well… Hi…” Ann says smiling softly.
"Ahem" Oscar says as he clears his throat. "How do you know Benjamin?" Oscar asks curiously.
"Well, he will be coming to our campus for counselling sessions." Ann replied.
"What?" Benjamin looks up shocked by her words.
