"Therapy?" Oscar asks as he looks at Benjamin who at that moment tries to hide his confusion.
"Yes, we met last night, we got to talking and he decided it would be best for him to come for counselling." Ann replies as Benjamin has no recollection of this conversation.
"And after that you went your separate ways… right?" Oscar asks.
"No, he stayed over at my place." Ann replies. "He left this morning." She then looks to Benjamin and asks. "What happened?"
"Nothing to worry about." Oscar says calmly but Dean interrupts him.
"His ex-wife was kidnapped and her lover was assaulted last night." As Dean says this Oscar stares at him, not wanting to worry his sister.
"Oh my…" Ann says.
"As you can see, I was with Ann last night." Benjamin says as he stands up and puts his hand on Ann's shoulder. "I could not have committed that crime because I have an alibi."
"That is not enough…" Oscar says trying to keep his cool. "What time were you together?"
"We met at around 11:30. We arrived at my apartment at around midnight." Ann says noticing her brother's agitation. "If you want, you can check the security footage at my building." Ann says as she moves away from Benjamin. "I'm sure there is footage of us going into my apartment and him leaving."
"Of course, we will do that." Dean says.
"Is that all…?" Ann asks. "I have to…"
"Yes." Oscar says abruptly. "You can go." Ann then turns to leave the room. "Bye Ann…" Oscar says with a bright smile. Benjamin finds this new change of pace interesting. The first overbearing and intimidating detective is now the loving older brother. His smile is so warm, Benjamin almost forgot about his previous behaviour.
"I better get going too…" Benjamin says.
"Not you!" Oscar says firmly as he reverts to his cold persona. He approaches Benjamin and says "This is not over."
"Look." Benjamin says now frustrated. "Why don't you ask Gregory who attacked him last night, instead of coming up with fairy tales."
"He's in a coma." Dean replies. "Didn't you hear?" Benjamin looks surprised on hearing this and backs down. "We will find out who did it." Dean says as Benjamin nods and slowly leaves the building. Dean then looks at Oscar, who is clearly annoyed by the situation.
"What are you looking at?" Oscar says noticing Dean staring at him.
"Just wondering what's bothering you so much." Dean replies.
"What was that man doing at my sister's place!" Oscar says.
"Talking…I guess" Dean says with a smirk which is met with Oscar's deadly gaze. "Grow up Oscar, she's not a kid."
"You don't have to tell me that. I just think she would be a bit more responsible about these things." Oscar says defensively as Dean gives him yet another look. "What?"
"Be more responsible? She is not dating someone who only wants to meet in secret." Dean says.
"Ruby is different ok. She just wants to take things slow." Oscar replies trying to stay calm.
"I’m just saying… In this day and age, what does she have to hide? And to a cop…who can easily look up information…"
"Look, I really like her ok.” Oscar interrupts Dean. “And I know it is difficult to understand but, I trust her." Oscar says as he picks up certain files from the desk next to him. "Enough of this, let's get back to work." Dean and Oscar then continue their work.
Meanwhile, Ann goes back to university and finishes her day. As she returns home, she sees Nicholas opening his door.
"Hi." Nicholas says. In a moment, Ann looks at Nicholas, a very handsome gentleman, and is overcome. "How are you Ann? You seem to be in a good mood." Taking a deep breath, Ann speaks.
"Hi. What makes you think I am in a good mood?" She says unsuccessfully trying to hide her nervousness.
"I heard you humming." He says as he approaches her, pretending to trip. "Man, I am so clumsy." He says. She can't help but smile, Nicholas was an observant and compassionate man. He knew certain situations made Ann anxious and would usually try making jokes, sometimes at his own expense to cheer her up.
"It was a nice day today." Ann says. "How was that event you went to?"
"It was fine; the usually snobs you know." He says smiling sarcastically. "Well, I better get going." Nicholas says cutting the conversation short.
"Wait…"
