Seeing Diana's face did not soothe Héctor as he thought it would. It only increased the tightness in his chest. Why did she have to look at Lucian like that? Or was he imagining things?
Héctor quickly left the garden without looking back. He couldn't risk seeing that sweet look one more time. Héctor had to work, after all, he was only at the Hathaway family mansion because he was an employee. A paid mercenary to patrol the property.
With his mind full of thoughts, he went looking for Raul, his best friend, so they could patrol the area together. He found Bellini sitting in the kitchen, talking to Sarah. Héctor knew that Raul was interested in the servant. He had already lost count of how many times he had seen his friend yearn for Sarah Cooper. However, the sun-blonde girl didn't pay much attention to the mercenary, she smiled amiably and promptly answered Belini's questions, but if you had a watchful eye, you would notice that Sarah seemed to have her mind elsewhere.
“Raul” called Hector, holding back a laugh as he saw his friend's silly face as he looked at Cooper. “Shall we? We have work to do. Good morning Sarah”
“I was waiting for you, Braga. If I may, miss,” said Bellini, placing a light kiss on the servant's surprisingly soft little hand. Sarah laughed at Raul's gallant behavior.
"What is this funeral face, Braga?" asked Bellini good-naturedly as they walked away from the kitchen.
"Wow, is my mood that obvious?"
“It's stamped on your face. What happened?"
"I know it's bullshit but I saw Diana looking at the young master differently," said Héctor after a long sigh.
“Great for Lucian, no? Diana is a beautiful woman, although she hates me now, probably even more after yesterday,” said Raul, awkwardly arranging his long brown hair.
“Of course the young master would be lucky. But I do not like"
"Am I feeling a little jealous of our Héctor?" He said laughing.
"Since when have you ever seen me feel jealous of someone?"
"Yeah, there's a first time for everything"
They were on the property's walled boundaries, watchful but relaxed. Lately, they had been patrolling the property more frequently, as Lucian had hired more Braga family mercenaries, including Héctor, since Baltazar's poisoning. Not that he was happy with the accident of the head of the Hathaway family, but his misfortune was a great opportunity for Héctor and Raul.
“You can't say anything, Raul, you get bitten every time a man talks to Sarah,” said Héctor after making a deck of cards with his mouth.
“But I assume I'm jealous unlike you who prefer to pretend the obvious: you're enchanted by Diana. I've noticed since that day on the road that you kept her from falling to the ground. Since then he hasn't been able to take his eyes off her!" He said giving Héctor a playful nudge.
He could only laugh at his friend's words. Raul, regardless of what Héctor thought, his friend was right: he was madly in love with the redheaded girl..
