a bond that linked two souls before,
now all but felt suffocating
bond
noun / bänd /
a relationship between people or groups based on shared feelings, interests, or experiences
Deneb, the older star, and Altair, the younger star, were twin stars whose existence unbeknownst to the world. Indeed, the royals announced of the heirs’ birth. However, never did they exhibit of the newborn children. They neither announced their names, nor the fact that the Lady gave birth to twins.
Understandable, it is, for the royals to not announce such risky information. To give birth of twins is enough of an embarrassment; but to birth impaired twins?
The older star, although otherwise a perfect young lady, was sickly. The younger star, although healthy as a horse, was nothing but a rebellious good-for-nothing brat. Having one impaired heir, despite still being an embarrassment, is, at least, acceptable. Thus, by hiding the identity of the twins, the royals had the choice to announce either child when the time came.
Would the bedridden yet graceful young Lady magically overcome her sickness to reign alongside a perfect man chosen by her parents? Or, would the unhinged but healthy young girl repent to become an obedient and graceful Lady that her parents expected? Always a game of guess, it was, waiting for the two to grow up.
Understandably, very many people favor the graceful Lady to overcome her sickness. After all, it is supposed to be the most lucrative outcome; no more healthcare or funeral costs, no mourning, and no need to train such a feral woman of an heir to become a perfect young Lady she should have become.
However, reality does not always favor her people. She has her own plans; ones that mocks the hope and prayer of the mortals beneath her.
The two stars lived very different lives. The younger star, Altair, whose adventure revolved around looking for bugs in the garden, and the older star, Deneb, whose adventure revolved around the knowledge from the library.
Ah, whatever am I trying to tell you? I keep repeating the same matter over and over again. Excuse my tale, as I am fired up in emotion. I shall get back to the tale.
Ahem.
The two stars grew further and further away from each other, as though manifesting an invisible wall, separating the bond that was supposed to be tight. Unbeknownst to them, however, that their bond was not cut off by the wall. They were tied to each other, even as the wall grew. As they were pushed away by the wall, they were pulled in by the bond. Thus, suffocating and choking them.
Jealousy, envy, distrust. Several rotten feelings grew inside both of them.
While older star envied the younger star’s ability to move around freely, younger star envied the attention the older star got. While older star was jealous that younger star got to play with Cygnus—ahem, the friend, a lot, younger star was jealous because no matter how fun their adventure was, dear friend could only think of older star all the time.
Their bond became a curse; and yet, they could not free themselves of each other. Beneath all layers of putrid emotions, laid a fact that they needed each other. Such a strange and destructive dynamic they had. As though an alcohol addiction; they relied on each other despite knowing that their relationship ruined themselves.
Over the year, the distance between the two of them grew. Slowly, but surely, Altair learned to let go of the bond and to breathe her own air.
The first time Altair breathed after removing the curse of a bond, she felt nothing but freedom. She inhaled roses and jasmine; she tasted honey and apple pie. Oh, such freedom, how glad was she to be able to experience every ounce of it.
That moment, she thought she was free. Screw that sickly woman, she thought, as she clenched her fists and dashed free. Yet, in the end, she found her way back home.
And such relationship didn’t end at the sorrow of their childhood.
birds of a feather flocks together,
until the cat comes.
