“What the fuck is wrong with you ?! How can you talk about them like that! ” The first man with the same leather armor as everyone else with blond short hair and thin eyebrows yelled, pounding his hands on the table.
“I am not saying anything against them, but against a few of you! When I tell her to fix the wall, then I'm crazy, and now that something like this happens, you blame others, not yourself! ” Another, with the same armor with a thick brown mustache and a small tail tied behind his head, was shouting, he almost didn't climb on the table.
"Do you know we don't have the resources to fix it!"
"We live in a fucking forest, we just need to take them!"
“You are really crazy! Do you know how long it takes us to cut down just one tree, how long we need to stay in the woods! It's too much of a risk, you moron! ”
"Didn't we all here say that we will protect the village at all costs and that we will kill any threat that threatens from outside our shitty walls, not wait for them to come to the village and kill our friends and family before we get rid of them!"
"The situation is different now than it was before, we have no help from the baron!"
"What will help us from that just conceited pig who-"
He failed to complete his sentence before Bogdan shouted:
"FOR THE LOVE OF GODS SHUT UP!"
Everyone stopped immediately and there was a blessed silence at last. Everyone picked up and greeted Bogdan with a lot of different names. Obrvko and Dejan stood in front of their seats and Bogdan sat at the head of the table, then everyone behind him.
"Now that we've all calmed down a bit, are we going to talk like humans?" Bogdan said.
Everyone was looking around or at their fingers, and no one was looking at him.
"I will understand this as yes. Then Dejan, Obrvko and Goran, you were there when I came, can you tell us how this happened? ”
"Dejan and I were the first to arrive when we heard the bell. We ran towards the door, but we arrived too late. Stjepan was already on the walls, and that thing was biting Mirko's head. Dejan fired an arrow at it, but the arrow bounced off the actual skin. When it saw me running towards it, it jumped over the wall and- ”Obrvko couldn't finish before someone interrupted him.
“She jumped over a five-meter wall !? Are you sure you saw well? ” The first man yelled.
"Let him finish, think logically. How will you know if you don't let him say everything? ” Another man said.
"Now you are acting smart, you really want to piss me off!" The first one said as he slammed his hands hard on the table.
"What are you yelling at me for now !? I'll talk- ”The other said as he clapped his hands hard as well.
They looked at each other face to face and both frothed. Their lashes were touching, one sudden movement and a fight would break out.
“Enough Neven and Kalin! You are starting to get on my nerves! ” Bogdan said.
"But he st-" The first one tried to say something, but to no avail.
“There is no but! And this time you started Neven. Calm down or we'll have this conversation without the two of you. Obrvko, can you describe that creature a little bit? ”
"I wish I could, I saw him briefly. He was black as darkness and big. ”
"Great, only about ninety percent of the stuff from the woods." Neven said.
"Did you see anything, Dejan?" Bogdan asked.
"Not the same as him, but can I ask where you all were when the bell rang.”
"I honestly didn't hear him." Kalin said.
"The first time I agree with something he said, neither did I."
"I didn’t either, but I don't remember much of what happened after our drink yesterday." Bogdan said
"You had a good time yesterday, Boss." Goran said.
"Of course I did."
Everyone laughed a little, then returned to the topic of conversation.
"Did anything else happen?" Bogdan asked.
“I looked at the whole village of Captain and I can say pretty nasty. The observation post was left without a roof and a bit of the right part of the floor. Some parts of the wall are so damaged that a wolf could easily pass, there is one such hole in the fields. And they killed two sheep on the other side of the village. " Obrvko said.
"How many are left?" Bogdan asked.
"Four."
There was a rudeness in the room and nervousness in the air. Kalin started talking to Goran, but Bogdan couldn't hear them. The situation has just escalated from big shit to severe diarrhea.
"From now on at least one has to guard the sheep every night, if we lose them we can comfortably bury ourselves." Bogdan said.
"Clear!" Everyone said at the same time.
"Anything from the ad?" Bogdan asked next.
"Nothing." Kalin replied.
“You see now we have no choice but to fix the wall! We almost lost the most important thing in the village. ” Neven said.
"But it's still too dangerous for the four of us, because the two of us have to stay in the village to guard it while some go into the woods for so long, not to mention how we're going to get those trees to the village." Kalin said.
"I'm sorry Kalin, but I agree with Neven this time. We have no choice and that creature has to pay for what it did and I won't be able to sleep until I know it's still alive. I can't forget the expression on Cvita’s and Mirela's faces when we brought them in. I won't let that happen again! " Dejan said, clenching his fists.
"I'm with Dejan and Neven, I can't just sit on my ass anymore." Goran said.
"I'm with Kalina. I think we can patch the holes with something from the village, we don't need to take that risk." Obrvko said.
They started arguing again and saying the same arguments while Bogdan was just looking at them because he didn't even know the right choice. If he goes with Neven's idea, they can fix the wall, but anyone who goes for wood can die and the village will be left with only two hunters. If he goes with Kalin's idea I can patch holes with something not very solid until someone responds to the ad or the baron finally sends people for help, but for how long it will take everyone in the village can die by the time he arrives.
"Enough of this endless quarrel, let Bogdan decide as the head hunter!" Kalin said.
Everyone agreed unanimously and turned to face him. Bogdan looked like he was looking at them, but he was actually lost in thought. His decision now will determine the future of the village. After a long pause he exhaled and said:
"Let's go with Nevena's idea, I'd rather try to do something than wait for help that may never come."
Some celebrated while others protested, telling him he was making a big mistake, but he made a decision that was final and they knew it.
"We're leaving in an hour, Kalin and Obrvko will stay in the village."
The others got up behind him and each went his own way. Everyone prepared in their own way, some saying goodbye to their families while others didn’t. They sharpened their weapons and prayed to their deities. Bogdan said goodbye to Marija and Dalibor and it was obvious that she wanted to protest against this idea and that she did not like it, but she knew that it would not change anything. Soon those hours passed and everyone was waiting at the door except Bogdan who was at the inn. There stood a large wooden sled, he grabbed the large front handle and began to push it. They weren’t that hard but they weren’t easy either. As he pushed them through the village he could see the villagers with expressions of hope and they were all yelling. Come back safely! Show those beasts who the boss is! You should have done this before! Good luck! The gods will guard you! Let Svarog have mercy on you today! .. There stood a large wooden sled, he grabbed a large front handle and began to push it. They nodded back to him and Goran, Neven and Dejan surrounded the trailer while Obrvko and Kalin opened the door. Quickly they managed to open the door in relation to their size and Bogdan's group took light steps out and Kalin and Obrvko closed the door and climbed to the observation post next to the door to watch them.
