"Light the fires, faster!" Bogdan said.
Everyone started doing it right away, they even left a trailer right in front of the entrance. Akar was just looking at them. They filled what looked like a metal cage, but without the top, and set them on fire. There were plenty of them next to the wall and they did it as fast as they could. They finished just as the sun was setting and the entire wall was lit up. From outside, there was a kick from the floor and something heavy being underlined.
They gathered in one place and forced themselves to the floor from exhaustion. They looked at the sky for a while and wiped the sweat from their foreheads.
"Barely. I can't believe we managed to do this. " Kalin said.
"I do not think anyone can believe it. We did our best and so did Mr. Akar. I've never seen anyone fight like that. " Goran said.
"By the way, where is he?" Obrvko said.
"I think he went to the inn." Bogdan said.
"I knew he was good, but so much." Kalin said.
"He is on the second level, but I will be better. After all, I am the Head Hunter. ”
"You will no doubt be Captain."
Bogdan laughed a little and said:
"I think it's time to do those funerals."
Everyone agreed and Bogdan said:
"Kalin prepared Nevena for you. Obrvko, tell people that their funeral is in two hours, and Goran and I will prepare everything. "
They nodded and went on their way. Everyone was doing their job. Kalin wrapped Neven, Obrvko spread the news, and Bogdan and Goran put wood on another pile and dug a grave. As time went on, more and more people came and they helped them. That time also came, Mirko and Stjepan were laid on their bonfires, and Neven was laid in the grave. The whole village gathered. The atmosphere, with the sounds of crying and the looks of misery in the people, was difficult. A man with gray hair and a short beard came out. His clothes were a little dirty, but so was everyone's. He stood in front of everyone and began to speak:
"Thank you all for coming today to see off our fallen villagers to the afterlife. Before we begin I would like to thank our hunters for making this possible. I don't need to say who they are, because you all know, but let me say a couple I still remember when they were up to my waist. When they threw mud at my house, I can bet that Mirko thought it was funny, and at first Stjepan certainly didn't want to, so Mirko called him a coward, and you know what he was. They threw and threw and laughed, I went out as soon as I could to teach them a lesson, and when I came out I saw that I shouldn’t.They were both lying on the floor and whimpering and Neven was yelling at them. I went back to the house and when I came out later not a speck of mud was in my house. "
Some people laughed a little, and the chief continued:
"It was easy to always make Stjepan angry, and Luka knows that best. I think it took him a month to fix everything in the inn when someone told him he couldn't drink the whole keg of beer alone."
> It wasn't someone, it was Mirko. He teased him even later while he was dead drunk and then of course they got into a fight. When I remember how long it took us to separate them and take them out of the inn.<
"Mirko was the biggest joker in the village and you all know that well, and he liked to tease Stjepan the most. No matter how much he teased him, there are no two people in the village closer than the two of them. Cvita if your child inherits anything from Mirko, it will put me into the grave. "
Everyone laughed again, even Cvita with a tear in her eye.
"And about our Neven, what can I say? He would always be the first to help and the last to ask for help. He kept the order as he saw it to be good and was never afraid to say what didn't suit him or say what he thought of whom I will never forget when he told the soldiers what a baron he was for the imposition of higher taxes. They almost hanged him, but he said what we all thought and did not dare to say. Zdenka beat him well that day. What happened was a tragedy. Life is sometimes beautiful and sometimes cruel.Today it was especially cruel but we have to go on.We lost the good boys who looked after us as hunters, so we at least give them a good day while they are still on earth spiritually .To be able to brag to others about what their last party was like! ”
Everyone clicked and the chief lit two torches and threw them at the bonfires. A fire grew slowly from the smoke. Bogdan and Kalin started burying Neven with all his precious things. The fire flared, the earth covered the body.
“People, everything is on the house today! For them!" Luka yelled.
Cvita, Mirela and the hunters thanked him, and he said they at least deserved it from him. They waited for the fire to die down and set off. It was dark next to the inn and they came in and Akar was in the same corner as before. Beer, wine, brandy were poured, food could be prepared as quickly as possible. It didn’t take long for the incomprehensible singing. There was laughter, all sorts of stories were heard. What had generally led to quarrels now only led to laughter. It never occurred to anyone to do something that could ruin the party. Hunters slammed their mugs and beer flew everywhere. The locals were so fast that half of them spilled on the floor. Bogdan squinted at Akar and saw him sitting in the corner with a thick book in his hand. Maybe he looked at him for too long because Goran grabbed him from behind and said quite drunkenly:
"Why isn't he looking forward to removing that armor yet? He deserved it. I'm going to him. Luka can have another mug! ”
Luka filled a new one, and Bogdan said:
"Leave him alone, Goran. His choice is if he wants to rejoice. I don't think you're going to change his mind, and you're drunk. "
Goran didn't listen and started with two mugs. Bogdan followed him because he could not let him go alone. They pushed a little to get to him and he noticed them and put the book behind his back.
"What do you read?" Goran asked.
"Nothing, and what do you need?"
"You did well with us today and I was sorry to see you sitting alone while we were having fun. It would be nice to join us, and I've already brought you a beer. "
"Thanks for the offer, but I'll have to decline."
"Just a couple of drinks. That shouldn't be a problem. "
Bogdan tried to stop him, but broke away and spilled some beer on the floor. He came so close to him that the mug was right in front of his face.
"You can't say no -" Goran couldn't finish the sentence before the mug came out of his hand. There was a crack in the wood and a spill of liquid. Everything fell silent and everyone watched Akar, who broke the mug out of Goran's hand and had his other hand on the hilt of his sword. Mrkan's growl could be heard outside.
