"Elias, the breakfast's ready." My moms' voice came from downstairs, warm but loud since she was screaming...
"Yeah, coming, mom!" I walked down and entered the kitchen.
"Are you going out to play with Tobias today?" She turned her head towards me, gave a slight smile, and was bringing food to me.
"Yep, I am." I smiled back and took my plate from her hands.
I am the fourth child, the youngest, in the Lyceus family, the other three are my older sisters, and they already were third years in, Salexty Academy of Magic. They are triplets, but they are so different from each other that no one could guess that they're even related. Their names are Rinn, Aria and Tia, which was also the order in which they were born.
Besides being mages from different classes, Rinn is super athletic yet still is in the top five students in academics from the third year. Her hair is long and white; if she doesn't talk nor blink, she will look like the most expensive doll you could get your hands on. She's usually very reasonable and understanding, but once Tia gets on her nerves, she will nag the entire day, why do this, why do that.
On the other hand, Tia is what you'd call an airhead; she usually forgets what she was doing but never forgets the thing she cares the most about – lollipop. I think I've never seen her without one on her. She once fell down on her face while was running around the town and got a lollipop stuck in her throat; after that time, she doesn't suck one while she's training or having combat activities. But overall, she is a sweet and caring big sister. Also, she's the most athletic student in the entire Academy; she could end up being the fastest person on this continent. Her hair is black, the same color as our father; she is muscular but is still very feminine and cute.
Aria looks like a princess straight out of massive castles; she's very charming and has the most beautiful smile in our family, that is if she tries. She's so lazy about her looks that most of the time, she looks as if she was attacked by a horde of chickens, very aggressive chickens, having her alluring dark teal colored hair look like seaweed. Besides sleeping, the only thing she does is training her magic. She isn't the greatest in academics and rarely moves; she uses her tamed creatures most of the time to even move around the home. She is very kind to them, and it usually looks like she can communicate with them as if more than giving them commands. Besides having a tremendous amount of magic energy, she commands creatures that no one has heard about. Some teachers even accused her of having demons and devils; they were pure beings. Those accusations were thrown away by the director of the Academy. My sisters had the same eye color our mother has – magenta with slight tints of gold.
"Hey, can you teach me how to make a sword out of magic?" I could see how eager Tobias was to learn new ways to use magic.
"Tobi, you have no affinity towards attacking magic, you should learn to support me, and we'll be the strongest once we finish the academy." I think this sounded a bit too arrogant once I completed the sentence.
"But I also want to fight; how is that you're doing all that and I can't do anything?" He shrugged his shoulders and made an irritated face.
"Make the best use of the cards given to you." That is something my father told me when they found out that I could become a mighty mage, so I will do all I can to make my family happy.
"What do you mean? What cards? You sound like an old man again, Eli…." And now he is annoyed…
I am only twelve years old, but once I found out how dangerous magic could be, I knew that I have to grow up faster, so I cut off my friends at the age of eight. However, somehow Tobi still ended up in my life. I told him that I will practice magic even if he is around, and he told me - "Guess I'll do it too then", so we ended up practicing together in secret. No one from our families knows that we sneak out of the city all the time. We meet up and head in the Nakte forest that's south of the Kingdom of Salexty. Once I learned how to turn invisible and Tobi could speed us up, we began to sneak out more often, but it still took us about an hour to get to our training place. To be honest, besides reading spells from books and casting them all the time left and right, we probably didn't do the best job, but I still felt as if we've become stronger.
Seven months passed, and only three are left until we enter the Academy. My thirteenth birthday is also coming up soon. I bet my parents will get me some magic weapon, be it a sword or a staff; I'll love it either way as I have no preference for my weapon. Until now, I've used a dagger with a krataxi gem embedded in the blade; it was a gift from my uncle, but I haven't seen him since I was four, and I don't even remember his face. I only know his name, Leonhart. I asked my mother sometimes who he is and how he looks like, but the only thing she's told me is that he looks like her, but only more manly. I suppose he is good looking then. With her long greenish silver hair, my mom is someone you'd call insanely beautiful; all the men usually glare at her. I have to protect her every time we go somewhere. The same goes with my sisters; many men arrived at our doorsteps and tried to marry them but to no success. As long as dad is around, they won't get married any time soon.
Few days before my birthday, we once again ventured into the forest. This time we decided to try to find some and befriend the bantepsi; they resemble a dog with wings, but at the same time, they don't. They're usually captured and used to breed with domesticated version because when they were domesticated, research was done and after three to four generations they lose their ability to not fear a battle and loud sounds, they pretty much turn into cowards, but using wild ones is dangerous as they tend to prey on weaker handlers and escape. I asked my father once about them; he also owns one of them, he is a captain of knights in the military, but he can't climb higher as of common birth.
"Eli, do you hear it? It seems that we have found a pack." Tobias was smirking as he spotted some bantepsi.
"Ok, now don't make any sounds, we'll have to try to sneak up to it and…."
A loud sound echoed throughout the forest; the dim light shining through the leaves unveiled what the cause of it was. The dust cloud from impact is dispersing. It was a sight to behold, a rare creature, descendant of dragons, the pelkanix have scared off the pack of bantepsi.
"Eli, run, I don't want to die!" he tried his best to whisper; his eyes looked as if he's met the Death.
"Wait, let's see what it does. I read about pelkanix in the books; they are supposed to be as smart as dragons are, but wilder, so don't make any noises." Curiosity got the best of me; I leaned to the side as I was behind a tree to catch a glimpse.
"What's that smell? A dragon? No, doesn't really feel like it, another type of dragon, I see... Come out of your hiding, I know you're here, and I will find you like it or not; we're both dragons here; this isn't my territory, so I won't attack."
A calm but rumbling voice came from the pelkanix, I didn't know that he could smell us; should I run? I turned my eyes towards Tobi, but it looked like he was about to have a heart attack.
"Tobi, leave, I will hold him off! Run! Now! And call someone at the gates!" I let a breath out and continued to look at the mighty creature.
"We'll get in trouble; mom won't let me leave the house." It looked as if he was more scared of his mother than the pelkanix in front of him.
"Go now; it's better if we make it out alive, somehow, I hope."
Pelkanix head turned towards us as soon as Tobias began to run; I made a bow out of fire magic and launched arrows as fast as I could.
"Ah, a child, do you not know that we, the dragonkin, don't feel the fire?" The creature turned his head sideways as if it was confused.
I quickly made another bow out of lightning and continued a barrage of arrows.
"Interesting, you can also summon lightning, now stop! I won't hurt you if you stop now..." it seems that I've struck a nerve, pelkanix got slightly irritated.
I looked at the giant, black beast standing in front of me. He had three grey horns, his red eyes with a tint of purple were almost shining, I thought pelkanix had scales, but it seems that he has fur? His entire body was covered in light yellow symbols that I haven't seen before. The creature looked majestic, breathtaking, and at the same time dangerous.
"What... what do you mean? Dragons? We a-ale?" I bit my tongue and mispronounced "are".
"Child, come closer, don't be afraid; I've already calmed down..." He lowered his head and began to look at me.
I took a step towards the beast, my heart began to beat faster. I am scared, he told me that he won't attack, but what if he does? Mom will be sad and dad angry and also sad...
"So, child, why do you have dragon blood in your veins?"
"I d-don't k-know..." I began to stutter. Every step I took closer, the more intense the beasts' aura was... But curiosity took over me...
"Hmm... The only explanation is that the blood runs in your family. What is your name?"
"E-elias..."
"And... family name?"
"Lyceus"
"Lyceus... huh... My name is Rakh Tomeru. Nice to meet you, youngling. But time is running low, I'll come back here someday soon, I hope we can meet again, I'll tell you more then" He opened his enormous wings and turned around.
Once he flew away, I fell on my butt, my heart was about to jump out of my mouth... "A dragon, huh..."
