impulsive decision is an invitation for chaos
invitation
noun /ˌinvəˈtāSH(ə)n/
a situation or action that tempts someone to do something or makes a particular outcome likely
One thing I knew for sure, I had no idea how I came to such a conclusion. Well, it was what it was.
The next morning, I was awake earlier than Vega. Nothing unusual, but my mind was hazy and my eyes were puffy. I sat up, looking at the sleeping girl with a blank expression. Her face was serene, as if yesterday night was simply a faraway nightmare. Still, when I looked down and found my hands wrapped in clean fabric, I knew the night was not a nightmare manifested by my strange brain.
All I wanted was to protect her.
Thus, I got up. I recalled our conversation last night. That time, I decided to take our conversation seriously. That was what I was going to do: running away together with her, somewhere... safe.
She woke up when I was packing some of our things, and she was devastated.
I greeted her, “Oh, finally waking up, princess?” yet she did not reply. So, I kept asking, “How are you feeling? Are you alright? Do you need some medicine?”
Instead of answering any of my questions, she said, “Why are you leaving?” with a soaring and small voice.
I froze, surprised with her question. Could she still be half-awake, thinking that I was just like those friends of hers that left her? I frowned and turned my head to see her directly. “What do you mean?”
“Why are you leaving me alone?” Vega repeated, curling herself on the mattress defensively.
She glanced at the bag I packed, and I was quick to notice that she thought I was going to leave. I sighed, smiling at her as I scooted towards her. I patted her head as gently as possible. “I am going somewhere,” I whispered. “Together with you.”
Vega’s jaws fell open, as though she was in disbelief. Her expression was so adorable and innocent. I knelt, extending my arm to her as if I were inviting her to run away with me. It was a bit cheesy; I did not know how I thought it was cute. To make matters worse, Vega was dumbfounded and did not immediately accept my hand!
How embarrassing.
I pulled my hand back, cringing. Vega, realizing what just happened, burst out in laughter. “What was that?” she wheezed. “You are acting all cool like that while I’m here, dumbfounded.”
“Your reaction was too underwhelming!” I scoffed playfully.
She laughed even more. Then, she calmed her laughter and put out her hand. “Well,” she said, her tone all high and mighty as if challenging me. “Where shall the knight take away the princess?”
Abiding by the cliche she conducted, I took and kissed the back of her hand as if I were a gentleman of some pureblood royalty. “Wherever you desire, my princess,” I acted. “I shall take you far, far away.”
Thus, an insane idea manifested in my mind. Taking her to my own cage. To the mansion of Zelinda, where I had been prisoned by the life I did not want to.
What was I thinking? I did not know. It was a strange and impulsive decision, one that even I could not comprehend. What did I want to point out? Perhaps, nothing. Perhaps, mockery for myself. Mockery for the Zelinda, too, for their incompetence of searching for one sole female. Maybe, I also wanted to share a bit of myself with Vega, showing her the bright and sparkling life of a noble that she, according to her, was ‘jealous of.’
I did not know. I did not understand my own thinking.
However, what had happened, happened. It was, undeniably, what led us to this point of life.
Vega was excited for our journey, especially when I told her whose mansion we were going to. Perhaps, she was thinking how brave we were, how we were as if two pirates stumbling across a secret treasure.
Fool.
I was the fool, for thinking that it was a good idea.
Halfway through the journey, I had second thoughts. Was it a good idea? Even now, I have yet to come to such an answer. However, seeing her excitement made me realize that there was no turning back. I reap what I sow.
So, we approached the mansion of Zelinda. We approached the trap by ourselves, welcoming the curious future that greeted us as a result of our conceit—no, of my conceit of the game of fate I played with the star.
I looked at Vega, and the radiance in her eyes pushed me over the edge. Oh, I made an erroneous decision. There was no going back.
Thus, having nothing else I could do, I offered her my hand. What else could I do, but play a game and walk towards the unknown upon us?
“Shall we go, princess?” I asked, inviting her to the world I despised.
The sparkle in her eyes brightened as she took my hand. “Sure, my Queen.”
and all I could offer you was but a deceitful happiness
artificial freedom.
