"Earlier this morning, the police found a man with large mark across his chest. It was said to be from claw marks of a beast. A witness told the police it's made by a women. No statements are made from SIU, joint investigation are requested from the police force..."
It was evening. A usual evening like no other and the three house occupants had just finished their school and leaving them with nothing to do but watching TV in Toru's residence to relieve the tension of an exam.
Liam and Nadya was already feeling at home in the house of a boy who's been living alone throughout his life and appeared to be suffering of antisocial disorder. Probably or he's just socially awkward.
Liam went out of his comfort zone to get the little boy and talked to him most of the time. It was a relief that Toru could make casual conversation and didn't become awkward situation only Nadya could prevent.
However, he also understood that it must've been hard to live alone without family nor friends, unlike him. He can easily notice the loneliness and aloof facade underneath the thin and small frame.
The other thing Liam did besides talking most of the time was playing cards. He really had no idea the little one was so darn slow at learning the rules unless he played it first.
Now, he waited for his turn. If not for the fact it had been him who had brought up the whole making-Toru-come-out-of-his-shell thing, the game wouldn't been played at all.
Anyway, after sometime, Nadya finally talked.
"Did you two see the news? It's been playing the same thing for the whole hour."
"Really? I didn't notice. Only the part where SIU was useless that I catch at the end." Toru flinched as he heard the words of SIU. It was barely noticeable and Liam couldn't notice due to his irritating rant on the unit and also waiting for Toru to make a move.
Toru remembered the moment he had been threatened by the unit he had feared so much like it was yesterday. Ever since he knew about it, he would obey the law as if afraid to be sent back to an orphanage or worse his distant family and he did want nothing to do with them.
And yet, he made one stupid mistake and they warned him— no, more like threatening him when they caught him outside.
It was evening after he took a light walk outside the house. He walked down the street and sighed as he saw that it was temporarily blocked off due to a stray attack which was rare in the area, especially in this neighbourhood.
To be honest, he was getting cold sweats ran down his back once he saw the red police line indicating a stray attack. His intuition warned him of imminent danger when he began to arrive near the scene.
"Toru Niles."
Toru had almost got a heart attack as he flinched, afraid of turning around.
"Umm... who is it?"
A woman in her mid-twenties wearing a sleeveless white T-shirt under black cardigan with silver badge hanging in her neck and colorful looking heeled sandals made her looked pretty unusual.
"I think you know who I am, kid."
Now, Toru glanced from the corner of his eyes and intimidating yellow iris staring back at him as she started walking with a man beside her.
Toru started to back away, even though it was stupid idea.
"Don't run, kid. It'll make things worse and besides we only want to talk." The man warned. His hands in the air to appear as a good person but Toru knew that these people from SIU are the real monster than mere stray, with a badge.
"What did I do to deserve this, today of all days?!"
Toru shook his head. It seemed like the two adults got the hint and smiling softly.
"Alright, I guess we will talk from here. Did you by chance used your powers about more or less two weeks ago?"
"They know! H-How—" Toru couldn't finish his thought when he was interrupted by a feminine voice, strictly informing him.
"You may not realize this but anonymous source has been spreading video regarding the incident of you using ability online—"
"W-What?" Toru said briefly and the women still continued her talk.
"—and the chief didn't want the public to know of this incident so here we are, fixing up the mess you've made."
The glare directed at him seemed scary as his legs was twitching, wanting to escape.
"Now now, don't scare him, Cathy."
Then, she turned to glare at the men but he shrugged it off as if it was nothing.
"Don't call me that, Adrian! Get it through your thick skull that my name is Catherine."
She spelled out her name in irritation to the man who whistled, not really listening to her scolding tone so she gritted her teeth for awhile and sighing deeply.
"Anyway, is it true you did that on purpose?" Catherine asked again. "Because if you did, the rehabilitation program will be executed since you broke the agreement and--"
"Of course not! I swear it was an accident, Miss!"
"Then, why was it an accident?" She looked in disbelief. Toru shivered when he thought about the rehabilitation program and answered the truth quickly so to not make them think he would lie in this situation.
"It was an instinctual response. I was about to be hurt and it came out. Please believe me!"
Catherine, the SIU officer didn't fight back and turned to Adrian who's her partner in the team. He nodded and whispered to her ear in a small tone and Toru couldn't catch what he said, starting to sweat under his shirt.
Catherine nodded before walking towards him.
"Alright, we decided." Toru gulped. "You will be given a chance since you said it was an accident but know this, SIU never give a second chance because the public will never accept stray regardless they were registered or not once they broke the law."
After she said her piece, she pulled out the key pushing the man inside and the only person who was willingly to be treated like that by his pair.
Toru could hear 'idiot' being said to the man and his idiotic smile appeared which irritating the women as they left. It sent a chill down his spine once he remembered the words she said.
Even if it took only ten minutes of meeting them, he could still only stare and mouth wide open. He couldn't believe how fast they acted ever since the accident happened.
Right now, he still remembered the fear he felt when Liam and Nadya discussed the topics about SIU which is why he didn't dare to utter a word about it.
"Oh, right. Toru, didn't you pass those area to walk before?"
"R-Really? I had no idea." He stuttered a little. Thankfully, the pair hadn't notice but sooner or later, they will know how it will break their relationship apart.
