Adara was
terrified, she couldn't believe what she had just seen. Akilah who had been
magic-less all her life had now suddenly woke up with one golden eye, a sign
that she could now use magic. But what troubled Adara even more was the fact
that she had only one golden eye, which she had learned from Akilah’s grandma
Imala was a sign of a dark magic user.
Just then Akilah entered the room, now no longer dressed in her nightgown and
with an eyepatch covering her left eye. Akilah saw Adara sitting at the table
looking at her with concerned facial expression.
“I guess now is a better time than ever to tell you the truth sis” Akilah said
as she walked towards Adara.
“The truth?” Adara asked puzzled.
“Yes you might not believe me, honestly I wouldn't too if I were you...” Akilah
said as she pulled out a chair and sat across Adara.
“But promise me that you'll hear me out first before saying anything or
dismissing me” Akilah continued.
Adara had no idea what Akilah was talking about, but she had also never seen
her this resolute before. She took a deep breath “Okay, I'll hear you out, I
promise”
Akilah started telling Adara everything that had happened to her. How a new king
had taken the throne through immense bloodshed. To secure his position, he
needed an heir and therefore he let out a message throughout the kingdom that
he was looking for a wife.
The king had sent his men to personally find him most beautiful girls in the
land and pick them as his candidates. That's when Adara had told Akilah to no
go out and to stay inside as to not be seen by the king’s men. While trying to
protect Akilah, Adara got herself noticed by the guard and she noticed them
follow her home.
As soon as Adara got home she told Akilah to go and hide and not to come out no
matter what she hears. Akilah was confused and asked why but Adara shut her
down and pushed her in the bedroom, locking the door from the outside. Soon Akilah
heard a loud knock on the front door, she saw through the window that men
dressed in fancy armor; she assumed that they were the king’s men entering the
house. She ran over to the door, holding her hear close to the door, but she
couldn’t hear anything but mumbles.
After some
while she heard the front door closing and ran back towards the window, watching
Adara leaving with those men. Akilah now shocked and confused called her name
after her but Adara didn't react as if her words didn't reach her; feeling more
desperate she kicked and pushed the door, but with no avail.
The next day their neighbor Freya came by and opened the door. She sat down
with Akilah and explained the whole situation. When Freya and Adara were out
shopping yesterday they had noticed some soldiers following her. Fearing the
worst Freya had offered to go home with Adara, but she had refused and instead
told her to come and check up on her tomorrow. Which is what she had done.
Freya went on to explain that Adara had been taken to the capital as a bridal
candidate for the king, hearing this Akilah felt devastated she didn't know
what to do. Freya told Akilah to come to her house while they tried to think
things through, Akilah agreed, not wanting to live alone in the same house she
once shared with Adara.
The bridal candidate test to see who the king chose started a few days after. By
that time Akilah had with the help of Freya and her husband Cal’s contacts managed
to get in contact with Adara. There were a lot of candidates from commoners to
nobles, but just as Akilah had expected, Adara's unique beauty outshined all of
them. Adara had immediately caught the king’s eye and with that she was set to
become his wife. Although many nobles dreaded the idea of a commoner being
crowned a queen, but none of them dared oppose the idea; and the wedding
preparations had begun. This is when everything took a turn for the worse.
